This derives from the Latin and Greek words (georicus/georikos) for farmer.

I'm not a big fan of NYC, but New York State is beautiful.

And here I thought this word was going to have something to King George, possibly King George III.  Boy was I in for a surprise!  Thanks for setting me straight.

It would be logical since we have Georgian architecture and Georgian poets.
