Cabotage is French, taken from caboter meaning to sail along the coast.

Cabotage in aviation is the right of a country to regulate and protect its domestic industry from foreign competition, even if the foreign country has been granted the right to operate within its borders.  The foreign country must operate its flights in accordance with the rules and regulations of the home country.
