The earliest known use of the word vulpine in English was in the early 1600s. However, English writers had been using the word to describe foxes since at least the 15th century.

Dogs and foxes are distinct but distantly related canine species. Until recently, scientists thought it was impossible for them to breed. However, the discovery of a dog-fox hybrid in Brazil suggests that The Fox and the Hound might sometimes be a little more Lady and the Tramp.

I think the randy little fox and the female Great Dane may still be having some problems getting together.

I'm amazed how words can easily take me own a rabbit hole, or in this case a fox hole. As far as I could find all the words in English starting with vulp .  are variations of vulpine and related to fox.

A surprising discovery (at least for me) is that there is a star constellation called (you guessed it) the Vulpecula constellation or simply The Fox. It is a faint constellation in the northern sky (the 55th out of 88 in size) . Even so it still was identified in the 17th century.
