Understanding? Trick Please.....

Warning...graphic anger and description of death ahead.

As more details come out about the school shooting in Pensylvania, my heart breaks more and more. This guy went to a school and lined up innocent little girls and shot them execution style :(:( I don't really know what emotion suits my mood right now, so I'm going to sum it up like this..........

I hope the bastard is burning in Hell right now.

As a Christian, I know I should set a better example, but I'm human, and I can't help how I feel. This guy was selfish, and he was evil. There's no other word to describe him. He didn't just end the lives of those innocent little girls, he ruined their families lives and the lives of everyone in his family too. How are they supposed to face people who know he's related to them??? What about his own kids?? They'll always have that with them, no matter what happens in their lives.

I wont even start on the families of those poor kids he murdered. I think about how scared they must have been as he was shooting them one by one and my blood boils and I start to feel sick to my stomach. Today, a girl in english was saying that we should try to understand that he was a victim in this too, and that he lost his life. I told her straight up that she was a dumbass, and that if he wanted to kill himself, he could have done it without terrorizing and murdering others. Basically, I know I went off on her but I couldn't believe that she would say something like that. This isnt a time for understanding, this is a time to mourn. I dont think there's any amount of explanation that will make me understand why he did this, and even though none of them are kin to me, I still feel like sobbing for each and every one of them. I also feel like spitting on the killers dead body.

Sorry for the graphic nature of this post.

I agree. One ignorant mutt with a gun can do a lot of damage. If it wasn't the gun, it would have been an axe, sword or baseball bat.

I think we need to take a page out of the Mossad's handbook: focus on the mutts and know who they are. When they move, put a bag on them. The Mossad has a much better record using intelligence than any other similar organization. Israel is a country where EVERY adult is a reservist and owns at least one gun.

Our police and FBI use a reactive model which means that they RESPOND to crime rather than preventing it.

It never hurts to steal a good idea.

Unfortunately, this took place not all that far from me. And it's the third such incident in Lancaster County in a years time.

It's been reported by his wife, that 20 years ago, this guy molested someone and he was dreaming about it again. That doesn't give him the right to do what he did. He could have gone for help, or just taken care of himself. There was no need to take innocent lives with him.

On a side note, Philadelphia isn't the place to visit. As of 10/1/06, there have been 299 murders. Some of those have been children and teens.

The part that I get stuck on with these situations is that I can only see two explanations for why someone would act that way:

1) They were completely miswired from birth (insane)

2) Something happened along the way in their life (abuse, trauma, whatever) that made them the way they are, so that choosing such actions struck them as a good idea

Maybe I'm just not very creative, but every sub-scenario I can think of can be lumped into one of these two categories. In both scenarios, I see society (and by extension, me) as being responsible for that person either through cause (1) or in terms of responsibility for our sick/injured/incapacitated (2). It very easy for anyone to give in to a bloodthirsty impulse to want to put a bullet in the head of anyone who would do something as horrible as this; I know I would, had those girls been my sisters. But that's vengeance, not justice, which is wrong. It's why I'm not in charge of criminal punishment. It's also why I don't own a gun.

So would I want to spit on his dead body? No, I'd want to know "why", and understand how I, as a representative of our culture and society, failed here. I'm curious to know if that makes me a "dumbass" like that girl in your class, or if maybe you didn't consider the roots of the situation.

Side note, Nick - who exactly do you mean when you say "angry leftists"? I'm pretty fuggin' left, and pretty fuggin' angry, but I'm willing to bet you'd have no idea what my views are on a given situation. Seems to be a sweeping statement to me.

Dezlboi,

You're a better person than I am. I dont see myself as responsible for this guys actions at all. He hid his intentions from everyone. He had a wife and kids and he seemed normal, but he had evil inside of him....I'd pay money to spit on his dead body.

As far as angry leftists, I mean people who think it's wrong to administer justice. There are angry leftists, just like there are right wing nut jobs....am I wrong? What would be the reaction of the left if we started an organization like the Mossad?? It would be anger, no doubt. I mean, they dont even want us to listen to calls that suspected terrorists are making overseas.

I doubt it. I'm a pretty miserable individual and you haven't been on this earth long enough to make all the mistakes I have.

Mind-boggling generalization. I dont know anyone who is against justice. I know plenty of people who disagree on what justice is.

Nope.

Yup. Me included (I'm letting the comment about "the left" pass since you just lumped half of our society's views together in one statement). Funny thing, I remember back when the right was about small government.

I dont mean to be offensive, Dezlboi, but I really have no patience for the left or the right.....the only good thing about the right is that they can defend us. The left cant. It's just that simple. But I hate the right too. I'm a Christian, but the way other "Christians" act is shameful, and the right wing politicians love it and feed on it.

I just wish the Dumocrats and the Repukes would go away. They're both homophobic elitest parties, and they commit treason against this nation everyday. Everytime George Bush says he wants to use the constitution, a document that is there to limit the power of the federal government, to take rights away from people. he commits treason. Everytime the democrats say our troops are committing atrocities in Iraq when all they're doing is fighting in a war, which is their job, they commit treason. No one pays attention to the constitution anymore, and they're ruining our country.

I'm not sure what you thought would offend me there...even if I disagree with you completely, I'll respect your opinion on just about anything as long as there's thought behind it. What's the point of representative goverment if everyone agrees?

I happen to disagree with your assertion that the right can somehow protect us and the left can't, but I'm too tired to argue old cliches about the left being soft on the military.

Have a good night,

Jamessavic, Nick.

The Mossad is an organization that performs special operations abroad. I think its abilities are highly overrated, and the U.S. has similar organization, the CIA.

I honestly believe that no organization could have prevented this maniac from doing what he did. If the Mossad was that great, then they would have been able to stop the hundreds of suicide bombers that attacked civilians in my country (Israel). Once a man decides to end his life, then it is extremely hard to stop him.

Indeed, many people in Israel have guns. Every man until the age of 45 is on the reserve force and has to serve 3-4 weeks every year. During the service he receives an army weapon, usually an M-16 or equivalent automatic weapon, with plenty of ammunition. But this also means that a guy like Charles Roberts (the killer of the 5 girls in Philadelphia) can get this kind of an automatic weapon and shoot many more. So to tell you the truth, I did not feel safer in Israel when I saw many people with M-16 everywhere. I also owned my own private gun, a 9-mm, and it didn
