I Have A New Name

I found out at work today, that I've been given a new name by my staff. They are now referring to me as The Angel of Death. Earlier in the year, I had to escort two of my staff to a meeting with the Administrator about a picture that one of them had posted on Face Book. Unfortunately, it was work related photo that didn't go over too good.

Last week, I had to escort another of my staff for another meeting. With the current state of the economy and working on next years budget, personnel changes have to be made. My department is downsizing by two people. We are trying to avoid layoffs. The person I took to the meeting was offered the opportunity to enroll into the Nurse Aide training class that started today. She accepted the offer and if all goes well, by the end of the year, she'll then transfer into the Nursing Department.

What the staff doesn't know is, there will be one more meeting with another person. This person, I will be glad to be rid of as this person is a major pain in the butt. Unfortunately, this person is one of my supervisors. It will make my job a little harder and I'll quit getting those sudden sharp pains in the back.

Some of the other things the County may do is decrease the amount of paid holiday's, increase our contribution for Health Care to 25% from 20%, a possible no raise for 2010. From what some of my staff have told me, they won't mind those changes as long as they have a job.

These things don't bother me as the hospital I came from only paid us for eight holidays, not 13 plus 3 personal days. We paid 25% of our health care benefits and we went a three year period with a raise.

Over the past few years, we've slowly been reducing the number of staff I have. Mostly people who retired, weren't replaced. Add into that, a couple of other factors, we've reduced the number of beds from 591 to 470, and just a few years ago, the facility switched from reusable reusable diapers to disposable ones reducing our total pounds washed from just over 4 million to 2 million.

The Angel of Death ?

Is it a compliment or refering to the scythe the Angel use to cut the heads of the dyings ?

As usual, "staff people" between the top bosses and the "working people" have the worst position to keep !

At your age, you have about 10 years to endure :P . Keep smiling and courage !

It was meant in the spirit of fun and I've had some fun with it with them. I've has some of them tell me that if I come up to them and say come with me, they ain't going.

Thursday, right after lunch, we met with the supervisor and went thru everything with him. He should be moving to the other department soon.

Something that the Administrator had said to me that was kind of funny was that I'd have to step up and take a bigger role in things. What she doesn't realize is that, I already act as a maintenance man and worker as needed, besides my usual routine..
