Enter the next generation of WiFi connections. Late last year, NASA and a research team at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology cooperated in testing of the Lunar Laser Communication Demonstration.  Laser beams were used to transmit information/data from the Earth to the moon, at lightening speeds. The two parties are now set to reveal the results of the laser transmissions at the Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics. The speeds reported were impressive as reported by the research team. The download speeds recorded were an amazing 622 megabits per second.

The upload speeds recorded by the team was a bit less impressive at 19.44 megabits per second. This transmission of data between the Earth and moon were recorded at faster than traditional methods of transmission modes.
