This could be a great story to spin off of.

I am sure he will keep us waiting in suspense.

Thanks Nick.

I loved this story!!

Seriously, if you guys haven't read it yet, GO READ NOW!!

It was an extremely thoughtful, layered piece in which Nick examined many difficult and common aspects of coming out!

I was really impressed with the way he captured and described the feelings a gay person's family might experience! His descripition of the phases Daryl's parents went through undoubtedly exemplify the experience of many other gay teens; it also helps show the varied and dynamic possibility of stages through which a family may travel.

The main theme of course is what happens when one half of a gay couple is ready to be out and the other isn't. This is a timeless, and unfortunately all too common, aspect of gay life. Nick did a wonderful job expressing the different - and highly valid - emotions, thoughts, feelings, and reactions that two such gay individuals would potentially experience. Indeed the question of whether or not a relationship between a closeted individual and an out individual is a healthy, viable possibility is one that seems to defy answering.

I also thoroughly enjoyed the story on its simplest, narrative level. The description of Daryl's interaction with Tommy, Alan, William, and his parents was extremely compelling and enjoyable to read! I also loved the way the title was subtly thrown in and gave the whole story new meaning!

While I definitely wouldn't mind reading more about these characters and their lives, to me the story is complete as it is. Its primary focus - to me - seemed to be more about the feelings and events tied to particular, highly common, experiences in gay life. To me these experiences have been adequately examined with reference to these characters.

I think this story is extremely important and relevant and I really hope it's widely accessible for others who are going through the same thing!

Amazing job, Nick! This should certainly - in my opinion - be a staple in "coming out" literature.

What a sweet and touching story! I agree with everything Kevin said.

The gesture that Tommy made, coming to the supermarket and expressing his love to Daryl in front of strangers, was so romantic and courageous. I can vividly imagine how Tommy was blushing and how fast his heart was pounding at that moment. And those words

I recently saw this story and was straight taken in due to the catchy title. God, that was great.

The story was really well-written and the characters were so realistic, Daryl, Tommy and even the parents. This seems to be a very common issue in gay relationship...unfortunately. I really appreciate stories like this one which show us the problems and occurings of everyday life.

But I hope you won't mind that I express my opinions on the issue here. It's just that I found Daryl's attitude quite wrong. Expecting your partner to come out just coz you're ready? It's stupid. Perhaps his parents were accepting but this doesn't mean Tommy's parents will be accepting too? But imagine if pressured and to keep his love, Tommy came out unprepared and his parents reacted wrong. I find this quite selfish.

I think that this is what gives this story an edge over others- the realistic touch. Coz I know there're guys like Daryl out there. I know that they are perhaps right but I don't agree with their decisions.

Waiting for you to comment on the story, Nick!

Thanks for the feedback, Ieshwar :)

When I sat down to write this story, it was supposed to be a Valentines Day thing, but for some reason i decided not to do that. Anyway, the feedback on this story has been pretty slow, so I just assumed that not too many people liked it. I guess if I had bothered to post something here, I might have gotten more comments back :music: :pickaxe: :pickaxe:

I'm really glad you saw things between Daryl and Tommy the way you did, because that's how I intended people to see it. I wanted Daryl to come off as self absorbed but sweet. It's not that he doesn't care about Tommy, it's that he wants his boyfriend to take the bold steps he did because he thinks it would be romantic. He never stops to think about the long range consequences.

The most important point I was trying to drive home, though, is that Daryl doesn't have the perfect life at home. Just because he's out to his parents doesn't mean everything is sunny between them. But just because things aren't perfect doesn't mean they have to be screwed up, either. He's just a normal, everyday guy with normal everyday problems, and he's not perfect.

Hey Nick. I read this story a few weeks back and didn't comment. :(

There'll be more lashes for me tonight with my feather whip. :P (You no longer need to wonder why I misbehave so often. :*) )

For all the reasons already mentioned, I loved this story. :worship::wub:

One more thing, it's great to get your feedback once a story is done, like you just did for Time in a Bottle.
