This is another feature that was added to help individualize and set promoted authors' work apart. With the stories are being placed together in the system, this lets authors who have demonstrated quality work get some well-deserved enhancement of their stories. Of course, copyright rules are VERY important when authors place work on their stories. If authors choose to make their own banners, they cannot use copyright images in them. For photo images and some vector graphics I'd recommend using sites like pixabay.com, the free graphics section on 123rf.com or clker.com. **Remember, even if a model image is 'free', the image must have a 'model release' so you don't use a model's image in a way that doesn't require extra permissions. Check the details, make a screenshot of the page, then use the image if it adheres to the open use policy.

So, when you go to your attachments, there's no button with a small trash can on it on the far right side of each attachment on the list? It'd show up under the 'sort by' button at the top of the notifications? Also, we need more information. Such as, I have the trash can/delete button when I check the notifications area, through the drop menu under my username, on my Dell laptop, Windows 10, Edge version 38.14393.0.0 and Chrome 56.0.2924.87

Oh, and as for the whole 'asking a question/showing known answers'. Have you noticed the original poster's comment stays pinned at the top of each topic? Have you noticed the check mark on a post that gets lit up when it's clicked on as the 'answer' to the question on the follow up posts? Have you noticed the arrows that point up and down, that members can vote to move up an answer or move down an answer based on the information provided? How about how the topic then shows a check mark in the forum itself, showing that it's been answered? That would be the set up for asking a question and marking it answered. But people still have to read the topics and posts if they want to make an effort to 1) see if the question has been asked 2) see if their question is the same and it's been answered and 3) create a new topic if their particular question hasn't been asked.
-
Try reading every question? I do. That's how I know we're answering them over and over again. My post was 2 answers up from your question. You didn't even scan the page you were commenting on to see if this was a recent problem that might have already been mentioned. We've posted blogs, we've posted status updates, we've posted topics, we've answered questions, we've worked on the bugs, we've worked on the FAQ system, we've worked on... well, everything. And, guess what? We've worked on our real lives too. No staff member on GA simply lives to work on GA. We all have other jobs. Families. Responsibilities. We're spread out across the world and time zones. We work together via Skype, offline message, email, and we face many of the same issues members do on the site when it comes to communicating with each other and the programmer who created GA Stories--who doesn't happen to be a staff member. Because that bit of software is custom designed to meet the requests members have made, rather than some software we could try to go out and find or use like the old eFiction model, it is far harder to create and integrate into a website that we do pay to use from IP Board. Until we had a fully operational system, a lot of these bugs didn't crop up or weren't something that could fixed. We've done our due diligence. We've communicated, we continue to communicate while we spend hours upon hours of work trying to handle what people are complaining about as well as legitimate bugs, and trying to fix things you guys don't even see that are happening behind the scenes. We don't get paid. The vast majority of people 'who come on here every so often and it will be their FIRST TIME' enjoy what we've worked hard to do--for free--and yet it's too hard to put in a tiny bit of effort? All we ask is that you spend some time trying to see if someone else already asked your questions, which, I promise, is a fraction of the time we're spending checking every topic, every PM, and every support request to try to actually answer them.
-
@Jeff1 I, literally, just answered that 2 posts up! We know there are a lot of options that are grayed out so members can't change the settings. Staff can't either. We do not know why yet. It is on our list to fix. I don't know how we can make this clearer.
-
There are a lot of notification settings currently grayed out that members should be able to choose and change, and I'm not sure why it says 'the administrator has disabled this option from being toggled' because I don't get emails either, which is very frustrating as staff. It's on our list.

Thanks, Lux! It's hard to move the story forward in 1k installments, but I try to do it each week. LOL! You know, I have to agree with you. Not all characters are great all the time, and he's an aggressive young male. And sometimes an asshole, lol.

March's Classic Author Feature: In the Fishbowl by Dom Luka
Cia commented on Cia's blog entry in Gay Authors News
Um, no. You put it in your signature through your profile and it'll automatically be added to all of your posts. So, save the smaller banner to your computer. Then: 1. Click on 'Account Settings' in the drop menu by your name in the upper right corner 2. Click on 'Signature' in the column of options on the left side of the screen 3. Upload photo via the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files" option (I browse via the "choose files: option) 4. Select the banner you saved, wherever you saved it 5. Click on the plus sign inside the circle that appears in the uploaded image below the text editor to 'Insert into post' 6. Double tap on the image that appeared in the text editor 7. Use the pop up box to add the url (link to the author listing or story, for example), change the title, resize the image if necessary, change the alignment 8. Click update 9. Click save at the bottom of the text editor/uploaded images area. Voila!!- 7 comments

“You have to know how much I want you around,” I said. I snagged Ritch’s arm and turned him to face me. “Ritch….” He looked at me with so much trust in his eyes. Maybe I had done something right. He didn’t look away, and there was no need to fight for dominance because he wasn’t a bonded werekin. My tiger had nothing but a need to curl around him and purr. “I want to be clear.” I ran my hand up his shoulder and then cupped the back of his neck. Ritch’s eyes flared wide and h

March's Classic Author Feature: In the Fishbowl by Dom Luka
Cia posted a blog entry in Gay Authors News
This month's feature is a little different. With the upgrade, we didn't feature any reviews on Monday, but I've also changed up the format for the typical Signature Feature, since this month we're featuring a Classic Author. The fun part is that I had a site member nominate a classic author and story that they really wanted to share with others. Read on to find out why Valkyrie picked In the Fishbowl by Dom Luka, and how she decided on the excerpt to share! Valkyrie says: DomLuka is easily my favorite author on this site. He has the ability to bring characters to life in a way that draws me into the story immediately, and his stories stick with me long after I've finished reading them. It's very difficult to pick a favorite, but I think he did his best writing with In the Fishbowl, the sequel to the very-popular Long Way. In the Fishbowl takes the reader on a roller coaster ride of emotions, but the ending is well worth it, in my opinion. It's one of my favorite stories on this site, and the ending--especially the final line--has stuck with me ever since I read it years ago. The following excerpt is when Travis meets Dennis for the first time. I picked it because it shows Travis' incorrigible nature and is an important part of the story. Excerpt: Beads of sweat felt frozen against Travis’s forehead, and he didn’t really know how they’d developed in the first place. It was damn cold behind the alley of a florist shop and the pet groomer’s, even colder since he’d removed his coat to manage more movement in his shoulders. There was some laughter around him, the scent of puke and heavy liquor in the cold air, and he couldn’t seem to stop staring at the chattering teeth of the redheaded jock in a letter jacket standing red-faced in front of him. At least, until the redhead pulled back his fist and Travis braced himself. He felt a small crack of pain as a tight fist hit his frozen left cheek, but it was hardly enough of a blow to cause his head to snap back, and the satisfied look on the redhead’s face was almost enough to make Travis laugh; in fact, he must have because the halfwit in front of him suddenly looked furious with him as he raised his fist for another blow. This one, however, never made it to Travis’s face as his hand shot out and he openhandedly shoved the younger boy square in the chest, not quite hard enough to hurt him, but hard enough to make him tumble backwards into the snow, causing the small crowd to bust into laughter. “What the fuck?” the boy demanded, but had the sense not to object when Travis reached down to pick the three twenty dollar bills from his pocket. “You only get three,” Travis reminded him as he counted the money and shoved it into his pocket. “Bring another forty and I’ll show you how to make it hurt.” He let the boy’s friends pick him up as he turned his attention to collecting a few more debts from others in the group, all the while watching a burly enough guy around his age with a blond crewcut, who was watching him just as evenly. “Something I can do for you, Phil?” Travis finally asked. He hoped so. Phil was always a good customer, sending high-school boys who wanted to be tough his way, and on occasion, introducing him to someone who was interested in getting hit back. There was a small profit to be made in back-street fights, and there was always more of it when Travis could bet on himself, which, he always did regardless of what he thought the outcome might be. Tonight, however, had been too slow for his liking, and if something didn’t happen soon he’d end up going home to sleep. He probably needed it, too, but first he’d exercise all his options. “That depends,” Phil replied. “You feel like taking a ride?” Travis frowned, not liking the idea already. He stuck to places he knew, and the prospect of tagging along with the king of the rich kids, who acted like he was still in high school, just didn’t pique his interest. But still, he shrugged. “I dunno. What did you have in mind?” Phil grinned. “An old friend of mine is stuck delivering pizzas tonight. Throught we could track him down and pay a visit.” “Will he fight?” Travis asked. He wouldn’t mind a few rounds, and if the guy was delivering pizzas this late at night he was likely the tubby older man he’d encountered before while ordering one from the only 24-hour delivery service in town. “He will if he has a reason to,” Phil insisted, and Travis was quick to shake his head. “I don’t start ‘em, Phil. I just play along.” Even Travis refused to stoop so low as to pick a fight with an unsuspecting individual. “Even if he gives you a run for your money?” Phil asked. It was enough to get Travis’s attention. “Really? So why not call him up?” Phil laughed. “Because he’d hang up on me. Come on, I’ll make it worth your while.” “How so?” “Three hundred, win or lose,” and to emphasize his point, Phil held up enough money to cover nearly half of Travis’s next month’s rent. “Win or lose?” Travis repeated, wondering if it wasn’t worth it to just go throw the fight he’d likely end up starting just to collect the cash. “Win or lose,” Phil repeated. “On the condition that you get at least one good hit in before you do anything stupid. Three hundred’s worth that.” “Not really a friend of yours then?” Travis remarked as he weighed temptation against his own set of rules. Phil grinned. “Are you coming or not?” And Travis took the money. *** It was uncomfortable enough being in a truck full of highschoolers that obviously worshiped the ground Phil Clayton walked on, and staking out a late-night pizzeria only added to the insult of the entire situation, which Travis was about ready to regret. They’d been waiting for thirty minutes, and he’d had enough to try passing Phil his money back. But, Phil shrugged it away and pointed out the fogging front window. “Keep it. There he is.” Travis took a look, and almost rid himself of the inevitable guilt when he found that he wasn’t about to ambush some poor defenseless kid that had managed to get on the wrong side of these guys. True, Travis still had about ten pounds on him, but they were similar in height, and the forceful walk of the shadowed figure making his way into the parking lot was overconfident enough to tell that he wasn’t the type to turn tail and run, meaning that even if he didn’t like what was about to happen, there wasn’t much of a chance that blue and red flashing lights would show up anytime soon. “Alright. Let me out,” Travis ordered. “But don’t expect anything spectacular. I’m making this quick.” “Sure thing,” Phil replied, and Travis left the warmth of the vehicle to make his observations from the street corner before he crossed into the parking lot. His target was steadily making his way towards an outdated sportscar that didn’t look like it had any business being out in the weather, and he made sure to take a path that would purposely cross his. The guy wasn’t carrying any pizzas, so Travis could only assume that his shift had ended, which was probably for the best, anyway. He couldn’t imagine anyone wanting to go back to work after this. Moving closer still, he saw a little more of the guy as he moved briefly beneath a streetlamp. He looked cold beneath his red jacket that was nothing more than a uniform, and there was a flicker of short, brown hair beneath the baseball cap that matched the jacket. His pace slowed when he realized that Travis was coming towards him, a sure sign that he was using caution, and finally, as Travis reached him with a sloppy grin on his face that was fit for a drunken imbecile, he took note of the name tag neatly hooked to the guy’s jacket, and then loudly hollered, when there was absolutely no need for it: “Dennis! Hey, never thought I’d run into you here!” Dennis stopped walking, and beneath the brim of his hat it was apparent that he was confused, and rightfully so. “Who the hell are you?” Travis blinked. Obviously this wasn’t the sort of guy that was into common niceties, but, he smiled, anyway. “Well, since you’re asking, I am currently... scum. And, in case you’re wondering why that is, here’s the thing... I’m about to hit you for three hundred bucks. But hey, I score some points for telling you first, right?” Because otherwise, it would have been just plain unsportsman-like to Travis’s way of thinking. Of course, that’s all the warning he allowed Dennis the pizza guy as he walked steadily forward and swung as accurately as he always did. So, it was really a surprise to Travis when it didn’t turn out to be accurately enough, or maybe fast enough. Actually, he had no idea how he managed to miss Dennis’s face completely, or how Dennis’s fist ended pressed so far into his gut that he actually doubled over. Instinctively, and still too shocked to comprehend, Travis grabbed the other guy’s shoulder, ready to either fend off more of an attack or to release one of his own, and then cursed when he found himself on the ground instead, flailing in the snow much like the redhead from earlier, except, now there was a lot more pain involved. “Fuckin’ hell!” he cursed, having a lack of better words. But, the sudden voices calling out to Dennis was enough to get his attention, and he came to his senses just in time to hear the engine of Phil’s truck roaring down the street. Asshole, Travis thought. He should have known something like this would happen, and there was no way he wasn’t getting even with Phil for ditching him, either. That is, if he wasn’t spending the next few nights in jail. But, he heard Dennis calling back that he was right, and when Travis looked back up, he was being regarded with a certain amount of annoyance as Dennis shook his head, seeming expectant. “Well?” Dennis finally demanded. “Well what?” Travis forced out in words that didn’t quite have enough air behind them. “Was it worth it?” “Totally.” Dennis snorted in disgust, looked down the street and glared as if he wished the truck would come back just to give him some more. Travis watched him with morbid curiosity, and when Dennis stepped over his feet to reach his car, Travis found his way up before Dennis even got the door open. “Hey,” Travis called, and when Dennis looked over his shoulder suspiciously, Travis grinned another open smile. “Can I get a ride?” Read More Here The banner ad will be flashing on the site all month to feature Dom's story, but if you'd like to share it via your personal signature too, just copy the signature graphic below.- 7 comments

At this time that's not a sidebar option we have on the main forum page. Whether or not we add it, or can, isn't something we're looking at right at this moment. You can easily follow the blogs you enjoy and make that an activity stream you can see at a glance, or have sent to you on a daily or weekly basis, however.

How can I announce my story? You don't have to. The site system will automatically post an update in the Recent Updates sidebars, the home page if you have over 250 likes, and anyone who follows your story or you as an author will get a notification. The story is also moved to the top of your story listing on your profile each time it is updated. There is a large author community on GA and a lot of stories. How do I make my work stand out and get reads? Make use of the various author events available: Weekly prompts: Create a flash collection story and then make use of the prompts to inspire short pieces that you can post direct links to in the Prompts forum and possibly get a feature in the weekly Wrap Up site blog. Anthologies: GA does several anthologies each year with specific themes. Each event has specialized rules, but all the stories are released as a site event and promoted on the site blog and forums. This is a good way to get dedicated anthology readers to see your work if they might not otherwise. Contests: Every so often GA will host anonymous short story, novella, or novel contests for readers to enjoy. These get a lot of site promotion, and there's a chance of winning a prize. Premium: GA purchases stories of various lengths to post chapters on a weekly basis for our Premium subscribers. Anyone can submit a story for consideration, but the stories must be well-edited. *Submission is not a guarantee of purchase* Make use of the various ways to engage readers: Always reply to comments and reviews left on your stories. Post a story sample/excerpt in the Peeks & Prompts sub-forum in the Writer's Circle club prior to posting a story to garner and gauge interest. Post a topic in the Stories Discussion forum to engage readers, post pictures, ask questions to a general readership, share links to inspirational items (music, images, etc--do not post copyrighted material and follow all site guidelines) Add a link in your personal signature, or a graphic that acts as a link to your Author page. Mention your chapter or story update in (1) status update on your profile. Read, read, read! Many of the readers on the site are also authors, and one way to become involved in the community is to participate by interacting via likes, comments, and reviews with other authors on their stories.

Before posting, make sure your story has the best editing possible. A good story becomes great when it's well-written. Make use of the Writing Club and Writing Tips & Articles blogs. Know how to space and punctuate dialogue, craft characters who could step off the page, know point-of-view and how to use it.... Make use of all the story meta data fields. Write a description that sells the story, not just describes it, to make people want to read it. Use all the tags. Make sure you follow the posting guidelines in regards to the formatting to make sure you post it correctly so everyone can read it.

Hi William, Unfortunately, when changing the contrast on a page, getting everything to look visible can be difficult. Most text can be made 'automatic' so that it's responsive to program's changes when the background is changed to contrast mode (both online and in eBooks), but link text is typically locked to a set color. If we made the link text lighter so it's better visible on dark backgrounds, then it would appear too light on the standard light background. If we make it look dark to stand out better on a lighter background, it would appear even harder to see in the contrast mode. By keeping the blue link text sort of 'middle of the road', then it helps *most* people be able to see it in either situation. The only other option is to create a highlight bar around the link text, or make them link buttons, that wouldn't change with the background, but I do not know if that's feasible.

The notifications you receive via email wouldn't be dependent on the browser your use, they would be dependent on your notification settings. Some browsers work better than others, and Edge isn't fully compatible with the software we have, but that typically affects authors more than readers/members. However, I believe there are still glitches with the notification system and that is what has been causing issues. This upgrade is ongoing, and with the work week beginning again, fixes will take some time so we're asking that everyone be patient.
-
You can't pick and choose which notifications to keep, no. I'd recommend having them emailed to you on a daily or weekly email if you fear you're going to miss something.
-
Validating a story is a moderator option that can override the moderation queue for new authors on a specific story. Please don't use it, since you shouldn't be able to see it.

Per Myr, 1 hour ago, in the Bug Reports! topic: It's hard to see exactly what you mean in regards to what you did/didn't do when replying to a story's comments because you didn't share the links to the story/chapter so we can see them. It is also very helpful if you add in what device you are using, what browser you are using, etc... when you share any issues you're having.

How do I add a chapter to an existing story?
Cia posted a question in Story Archive Author Questions
Before adding a chapter make sure you're not submitting more content per day than allowed: Click here to go to FAQ topic Definitions: Save Chapter - Adds chapter to the story and makes it visible to author and staff. If you are still in the moderation queue, this sends the chapter to moderation. You can edit the chapter in this mode but editing an approved chapter that has not been published, it will unapprove the chapter until a moderator reviews it again. Publish - This makes a chapter saved in the system visible publicly. You can only publish 1 chapter per story per 24 hours. Steps to add a chapter: Click on the Stories tab in the red menu bar Click on the My Stories button below the story categories and above the stories in the recent updates area Click on the Story Title Click on the Story Menu Button (has a cog image) below the story metadata and above the chapter listing Click on Add Chapter in the menu options Fill in chapter title, notes, text, and end of chapter notes. It is strongly advised that you save to the system and publish separately if presented with the option to publish. *Nothing but the story text should go into the chapter text box. Please use the appropriate title and note boxes for other content.* Save (or submit to moderation) So long as you did not choose to publish chapter, you can now edit the chapter to make sure it looks as intended. It will be flagged as either Unpublished or Waiting Approval. If you are satisfied with how it looks, then you can choose to publish once it has been approved. (approval is automatic if you are out of the Moderation Queue) All chapters should be completely edited and ready for publishing before author set the Publish time. Followers are notified when authors update their content, so please do not publish and then immediately unpublish chapters as this will create what appears to be an error to readers which often results in site staff being repeatedly contacted with reports. If you accidentally publish the wrong content, or have extra chapters publish for some reason, please contact Cia via PM to have it deleted. If you decide to publish, you need to toggle the "Publish Chapter" toggle. If you have not posted a chapter in less than the time shown, then you can also toggle "Publish Now" if you want to publish immediately. Otherwise, the Chapter Publish Time defaults to 24 hours after the last published chapter or 5 minutes from when you loaded the page. You will not be allowed to publish a chapter sooner than 24 hours that the previous chapter. Important: If you are just adding your Prologue and/or Chapter 1, then go to the publishing FAQ next: https://gayauthors.org/faq/authors/author-questions/how-do-i-submit-a-story-to-post-date-and-publish-at-a-late-date-and-time-r28/ -
This has changed with latest Story Archive software update. Saving stories into the system has been separated from Publishing the stories publicly. Process flow for Author in Moderation Queue: Add story to system Add chapter 1 to system Add Prologue to system, if you have one. Make sure you have everything edited and ready for approval. Moderators will review your Story, Prologue (if it exists) and Chapter 1 and approve them. (you will have an orange banner until it is approved) Do NOT edit a story, prologue or chapter 1 after approval and before you publish, as you will lose approval and have to go through the process again. Once approved, you'll see the publish button at the top of your story. You can then choose to publish and either choose Now or set a date and time. Process Flow for Authors Not in Moderation Queue Add story to system Add chapter 1 to system Add Prologue to system, if you have one. Make sure you have everything edited and ready for publication. Once everything looks the way you want it, you can then choose to publish and either choose Now or set a date and time.

I’ve purchased author/editor status and completed all my edits, so how do I submit my story? *Important Notes* You must submit your story before you can add the chapter content. Complete all 4 steps to add your story content first. New stories are automatically posted with Prologue (Optional) and Chapter 1 as one unit. Do NOT add additional chapters until the story is approved. System requires Story, Chapter 1 and if added, Prologue all be approved before you can set publishing time. All stories or poetry under 1k in length must be posted as part of a flash fiction collection. Do NOT add photos, links, videos, etc... in the story text box. Photos can only be added in the cover photo area, and links and videos should only be added in the story or chapter notes. These must also adhere to GA content guidelines. Gay Authors is intended to be a Story Archive that people return to read old favorites. Do NOT post stories intended to be published off GA for profit. We understand that occasionally authors unexpectedly publish some content but removing stories from the site means authors cannot post later stories in the timeline if it is a series (becomes bait & switch requiring readers to purchase eBooks to understand series timeline/plot) and will prevent authors from ever becoming a promoted author on GA. One option prior to publication could be moving a story to our Premium Content subscriber only section to limit access without deleting the story from GA. Authors interested in requesting a review and possible move to Premium should contact Cia prior to publication. Where do I submit a story? On the site menu bar, click ‘Stories’. Click on the 'Add Story' button below the story category list and just above the recent updates list of stories. Note: If you don't have this button, you have not become a site author by purchasing free author status (look at the very top of this page). Please complete that step before asking for help. This brings up a pop-up window to select the story category. Use the drop menu to select the proper category (fiction, fan-fiction, anthologies, etc...). Click outside the drop menu box to close the drop menu, if necessary, then click on the Continue box. There are 4 Steps on 4 separate tabs to complete (unless you choose FanFiction, it has 5 Steps on 5 tabs). Story Note: Similar to Description, but this is a personal message area to readers that will appear under the story information when the story is posted. This is also the field to use if you need to add relevant images that adhere to the site posting guidelines to the story detail page. Images should be hosted in a GA Gallery album and uploaded using the Insert Other Media option. Story Copyright: Basic copyright automatically added. Change if you have a custom copyright notice.
