  1. Yes. You can send a multi-person conversation by adding the name of each member you wish to message in the "to" field. Type the first name, select it from the options given, then type the next name and select it. Repeat for each person you want added to the conversation.

  3. On each member’s profile is a button with an envelope and the word “Message”. Once you click that, it will bring up a floating message area. You can also click on the envelope icon in the site header area and click on "Compose New", then start typing in the member name of the person you wish to message in the "to" field. Options will be given based on what you are typing, and when you see the member name you wish to message, click on it to add that person to the message.

  5. This is the site Private Messaging System (PM). To access your site PM’s please click on the envelope. That will show you the active messages you have received. Clicking the "compose new" button in the top right corner of the drop down box will open a pop up box to send a new message. Through that area you can send a PM to any member, as long as you know their username.Go to inbox takes you to the PM system to view your messages. The system has a predictive field, once you type the first three characters of the name, it will give you options to choose from and narrow it down the more you type.

  7. This is your notifications. It is not a chat or message area. Depending on how you set your notifications, you will see a number there when you have new notifications, such as when an author you are following posts a new chapter, or when someone replies to status updates you create or comment in, etc.

  9. Topics can be locked for a variety of reasons. Locking a topic prevents anyone from posting to it. They may be locked if the discussion has devolved to personal attacks, off-topic responses, etc. Topics may also be locked to give the Site Moderation Team time to discuss the topic and may or may not be reopened.

  11. No porn of any kind. This includes links, cartoons, etc. No copyright violations. No soliciting. No politics outside of the Pit.

  13. Every post in the forums has a “report” option located next to the date it was posted. If you see a serious violation, such as spam, porn, or member harassment/verbal assault, you can report it to the Site Moderation Team but clicking on “report” on the post. You can also PM or email one of the Site Moderators. Please keep in mind that the Site Moderation Team will only discuss moderation with the member being moderated, so we will not inform you of what action, if any, was taken. Tech help requests should be done via the Help forum (please check if your question has been asked.)

  15. Yes, in fact, it is encouraged. Rather than posting multiple times in a row on the same topic, simply click the edit button for your original post and add to it.

  17. At the end of the person’s post will be a button that says “Quote”, click that. Remove the parts of the post that you are not replying to. Then give your reply outside the quote box. Another way to direct a reply to a specific member is using the @mentions tagging capability..

  19. Please write in English, and not netspeak (e.g., you not u, before not b4). Do not write in all caps as it is considered to be yelling.

  21. Yes, providing it does not violate the political content rules, but post the link, not the entire article. Many times the content is copyrighted and it’s illegal to post it without permission. If you do post a link, it can help to include a short description what the link is.

  23. A topic I’m involved in has evolved into me and another person basically talking back and forth, what should I do? If the topic devolves into the equivalent of two or three people having what is really a 'private' conversation in public, then take it private using the PM system.

  25. As much as we try to keep discussions on-topic, sometimes they stray. If a different discussion crops up in a topic, create a new topic to address that issue in the appropriate place.
