    Weekly Wrap Up
Hope everyone has had a great weekend so far. It's almost time to start a new week, but before we do that, we get to look back at what happened this past week. Also, don't forget that we're currently taking theme suggestions for the 2016 Quarterly Anthologies. If you have an idea that you think would make a great theme, don't forget to share it in the Anthology Forum topic. Please make sure to read the theme guidelines in the first post.

To start our week off, Valkyrie provided us with a review of AC Benus' story "Bound and Bound: The Curse and the Captives". If you haven't already read Valkyrie's review, check it out.

For our Wednesday post, Cia provided us with a new grammar rodeo. These grammar posts are a great help and I recommend everyone check them out. There's always new stuff to learn!

After last weeks "Second Chance Prompts", this week we brought back the regular prompts! For our featured story, we featured Greg_A's take on one of the prompts from last week.

    Weekly Wrap Up
Sorry for the delay this morning y'all. I hope everyone has had a great week. Just a reminder that tomorrow, Monday the 25th will be the CSR Discussion for Penguin by Valkyrie. If you haven't finished yet, there's still time so that you can come and ask Valkyrie your questions at 8-10 PM eastern time. Now, let's see what happened in the GA News Blog during this past week.

Monday's feature story was Gaymer by Dabeagle. If you're looking for a new story that isn't too long, this could be the story for you. If you're curious and need help deciding, check out the review, it may just make you want to add this little gem to your "to read" list.

Wednesday our focus shifted to story tagging. Sometimes it's hard to decide how to tag your story, hopefully this little blog article will help you decide which tags are appropriate for your story.

Finally, Friday brought two new prompts to get those creative juices flowing. For the featured prompt response, we feat

Hope everyone is having a great Friday. If you've been struggling to write, or just need something to springboard a new idea, you've come to the right place.Today we have two new prompts from the prompt guru, Comicfan. Don't forget to share your prompt responses in the prompt forum. We can't pick you to feature if we don't know you responded to one of this weeks prompts. You're welcome to post your responses in GA Stories, just please make sure that any story under 1,000 words is part of a collection.

    Prompt 418 – Creative
    Tag – The bite
You went out for your daily jog but it was dark before you began to head home. As you prepared to cross the park near your home you are suddenly hit from behind and knocked to the ground. You must have lost consciousness for a moment because when you woke you swore you seen something move off into the fog and you found a large bite mark on your arm. What bit you?

    Prompt 419 – Creative
    Tag – List of Words
Use the following in a story – a plastic bag, a small child, a hamburger, an orange, and a green jacket.

This week I decided to feature layla's response to Prompt #417:

There are many reasons that people might look forward to Friday, but here at the GA News Blog, we look forward to Friday because it means one thing.... New Prompts!!! Sometimes we get stuck and need a little push to help us get writing again, that's what the prompts are all about, to help get the juices flowing. As always, Comicfan has provided two new prompts for you to take a stab at. Hopefully one of these will inspire you to write a little something!

    Prompt 416 – Creative
    Tag – The bombshell
Things have been going wrong all day, but nothing could have prepared you for the phone call you just got. What was the news that was delivered?

    Prompt 417 – Creative
    Tag – First Line
“But why would you want me to meet you there?”

We only had two responses from last weeks prompt. Both were to prompt 414:

    Weekly Wrap Up
I hope everyone had a great week! I think today I'm going to get right into the Wrap Up for the week.

Monday and Wednesday were all about Andy78, the author of Magic In The Air, which just so happens to be this month's Signature Author Background. On Monday, Cia wrote a review for the story and then on Wednesday she interviewed Andy78. If you haven't already checked them out, they're sitting there waiting.

Friday brought us a couple of new prompts from the prompt guru Comicfan. This week he gave us a word list and another prompt having to do with Spring. Unable to choose which prompt to feature, I did a short feature of all the prompt responses that had been written for Prompt #208.

    Weekly Wrap Up
I hope everyone had a great week! With the release of the 2015 Spring Anthology, it's time to start looking forward to the 2015 Poetry Anthology and the 2015 Summer Anthology. Look for the announcement for the Summer Anthology within the next week or two, but if you want to get a start on it, the theme is Road Trip! This week we're going to go a little bit backwards in our look back at the week.

For those that didn't already notice, on Friday, there were no prompts. That's because we released the Spring Anthology! There's 11 brand new stories for you to read. Don't forget to leave the authors a review to let them know what you think!

The rest of the week was all about this month's Signature Author Background. This month's selection is Two of a Kind by Cia. On Wednesday we had an interview with Cia, where we learned more about the Carthera world. Monday was a great review provided to us by Cannd.

    Weekly Wrap Up
I hope everyone had a great holiday. It's hard to believe that 2014 is nearly over and this will be the last "Weekly Wrap Up" for this year. The next time we look over what happened during the week, it will be a brand new year. A lot has happened this past year and there is a lot coming in the upcoming year, so make sure to keep an eye on the GA News Blog to keep up to date on upcoming site changes! Now, let's see what happened during the last full week for 2014!

Monday we took a look at Graeme's story "Gay Whales" and based on all the comments, I wasn't the only one who got a chuckle or two out of the story.

Tuesday, Myr joined us and talked about how eBook's will look once the forum update is complete on the site.

Since Wednesday was Christmas Eve, we posted a Christmas Reading List for anyone looking for a holiday story or two to read.

Friday we had two new prompts and featured a prompt response from Jason Rimbaud.

Hope everyone has had a great week so far and is looking forward to the weekend. What better way to start it off than with brand new prompts! If you've been feeling stuck, or maybe just want to do something a little different, maybe one of these prompts will jumpstart a new idea. Don't forget, if under 1,000 words, prompt responses that are posted in GA Stories must be posted as part of a collection.

    Prompt 376 – Creative
    Tag – First Line
    “But I never said that!”

    Prompt 377 – Creative
Tag – Mirror on the Wall
It was a long day at work and you just want to go home. Walking through the busy streets hail begins to fall, sized like a golf ball. Deciding to duck into a store rather than get hurt by the hail, you dive into the first doorway you see. It is only once you are inside that you read the large banner across the back wall. “The mirror on the wall can do so much more than tell you who is fairest of all.” You shake your head in disbelief as you see mirrors in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Before you can duck out you find yourself being guided to the back of the store by large imposing man. What happens in the store?

This week we also have the next Poetry Prompt to share!

    Poetry Prompt #4

Write four equal lines of poetry, in regular meter, about preparing your favorite food. They need not rhyme.

The finished poem should have an identifiable rhythm. Each line should have the same number of syllables. In other words, have a meter: such as tetrameter, pentameter, or hexameter; and pick a foot that you find easy to work with, either from this discussion or from the Wikipedia site. For more information on this poetry prompt, visit the thread!

This week I decided to feature a couple of the previous Poetry Prompt Responses, one set by AC Benus and the other by Percy:

Before we get into this week's prompts, first a reminder. This sunday marks the end of daylight savings, so if you're in an area that does the whole daylight savings thing, don't forget that you will need to set your clock's back one hour prior to going to bed (if you go to bed before 2 am!). Now, let's see what comicfan has for us this week!

    Prompt 367 – Creative

You have always date the same type of person and while not exactly successful with it, you never seen a reason to change. Of course that all changed when you met them. Talk about a total opposite. What about this person so attracts you, compared to the others you used to date?

We've only got two more Premium Stories to post this round for the Premium Tuesday posts, then we'll start Round Two! With that in mind, I want to do things a little different for round two, but to do so, I need some help! I need some Premium Content Reviewers! If you've read a Premium Content story and are willing to do a review on it, I'd love to hear from you! A few of them have already been chosen, but there are still many many more that need reviews done. Thanks in advance!

It's that time of week again, time for the weekly prompts! Before I give the prompts, I want to remind everyone that if your prompt response contains ANY adult material, your entire prompt collection MUST be rated as "Mature". If you need more information on the different story ratings, you can find the information in this weeks earlier blog post or in the help section. Now, onto the prompts!

    Prompt 362 – Creative
    Tag – List of Words
Use the following in story – candy corn, pumpkin, black cat, torn cape, and a piñata.

    Prompt 363 – Creative
    Tag – The Party
You have been invited to a party by a name you don’t recognize. It states you are to arrive in costume on the appointed date. As you pull up you see two people already dressed in the same outfit so you don’t want to feel like you bought yours at a fire sale. You race off to change, but when you get back a half hour later the block is now empty and the house is gone. What happened to the party?

Now, what should I feature? I decided on ColumbusGuy's response to Prompts 360, enjoy:

Now that the Summer Anthology: The Backup Plan has gone live, it’s time to look towards the upcoming 2014 Fall Anthology: Scars.

I thought it might be a good idea to share some thoughts on getting started with your next anthology story, if you haven’t already done so.

Have you thought about the plot for your story? The topic “Scars” can lead in so many different directions. It could be physical, it could be mental, and it could only be a tangential link to the theme. Your entire story doesn’t have to focus on the “scars”, if you are inspired to write something, then get writing!

Sometimes, even with having the idea, getting started is hard to do. Some people like to take a notebook (or word processing program) and jot down the various points that they want to include in their story. Some people use outlines, some people just keep it in their head and go for it, use whatever works best for you.

I think the biggest thing at this point is to just start writing. There will be time to polish it later before sending it to Anthology Proof Team. I hope to see many entries in the 2014 Fall Anthology!!!

If you want to discuss the anthology with other GA Members, you can do so via the 2014 Fall Anthology: Scars - Discussion thread.

It's Friday again and you know what that means, it's time for a couple of new prompts from the prompt guru, Comicfan. Don't forget to share your prompts in the Prompt Forum, you never know, yours could be featured in the blog next week. I won't keep you waiting any longer, let's see what Comicfan has for us this week!

    Prompt 326 – Creative
    Tag – Family Announcement
Family get togethers were never your thing. However you found yourself without an excuse to miss this one. Once you are there however you are in for a major surprise. There is a big family announcement. What is it?

    Prompt 327 – Creative
    Tag – Bloodsucker
He was a lawyer and most of your friends referred to him as a bloodsucker. He seemed to run after the ambulances and encourage people to sue, but then he met Vincent and work took a back seat for him. Vincent was dark, broody, and made everyone, male or female, just seem to want to be at his side, but most seemed to disappear once they did. Your lawyer friend is changing and you wonder is becoming a real bloodsucker. What do you do?

There were only a couple of takers last week and I decided to feature Valkyrie71's response to Prompt #325, enjoy!

As many already know, 2013 hit me and my family hard. It made it difficult to do much writing and I did the one thing I hate doing, I put some "In Progress" stories on hold. I have some big plans with my stories for 2014, so I'm really hoping that this year goes better than last. Some of my plans for 2014 include:

    [sharedmedia=stories:stories:3540]
Thwarted has been "In Progress" since May 2013. It is currently at 24 chapters and I'm still not sure how many chapters it will be, but it will be completed in 2014. I am writing this as part of a flash fiction group known as the "Wednesday Briefers".

    [sharedmedia=stories:stories:2976]
Forging Trust while listed as "In Progress" has been on hold since the end of 2012. It currently has 9 chapters, and while I'm not sure how often the chapters will be released, Forging Trust is high on my to do list for 2014.

    [sharedmedia=stories:stories:3502]
Line of Sight is also listed as "In Progress" but has been on hold since April 2013. It currently has 7 chapters, and like Forging Trust, I'm not sure how often chapters will be released, but I will once more begin to work on this story. Line of Sight is a story where each chapter is started with a "first line prompt" and I may take this up in place of my Wednesday Briefers flash fiction once Thwarted is completed.

    A Family Gathering (Working Title)
This is a short story that is complete and in revision. When done it will be posted in probably four to five parts. If you'd like to read a sneak peek of this story, you can visit the link above.

    Dom/Landon Wolf Shifter (Title TBD)
This is a short story that is about 3/4 complete. Once done it will go through revisions and then be posted in probably three to four parts. If you'd like to read a sneak peek of this story, you can visit the link above.

I also have another story in the works that I have a deadline on, but I'll share more on that later.

I hope everyone is looking forward to the upcoming stories and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on them!

    Cheers!!!

    Weekly Wrap Up
Happy Super Bowl Sunday to everyone who will be watching the game! I can't believe that it's already February, it seems like this year has just flown by so far. The nomination phase of the 2013 Gay Authors Readers Choice Awards is over. I hope everyone got in their nominations before they ended at 12:00 am EST time this morning. Now, lets see what happened in the GA News Blog this week!

We started the week with the CSR Discussion on Totallyy's collection of short stories, complete with an interview and a live Q & A session. There were lots of different questions asked and it was a lively day on the blog. It's well worth a look, so if you haven't already done so, give it a glance, or two.

It seemed like a week for interviews. On Wednesday we continued with an interview with Hosted Author: CassieQ as well as a Blog Chat. Not only did Cassie talk about her stories and writing, but she also talked about what inspired her to write certain stories. It was really quite informative and I even asked her what was something about her that people might be surprised to find out. If your curious about her answer, check out the blog!

We ended the week, and the month, with two new prompts from Comicfan. This week's prompts consisted of a "first line" prompt and one with the tag of "the carpet". Both will hopefully inspire some stories from the authors at Gay Authors. For our featured prompt response, I chose a response from the prompt guru himself. Check out Friday's post and see if either of the new prompts call out to you and check out Comicfan's response to last week's prompt!

We had an extra blog entry this week. We started out the month with a blog post on Saturday which featured a new Hosted Background for the month of February. This month's featured story is "Love in a Chair" by Altimexis. Members have two choices of which background they want, one with a calendar or one without. To download your background, visit the Saturday post!

    Weekly Wrap Up
Hope everyone had a great week!!! Before we start with the weekly wrap up, I have a request. I'm planning a special Christmas review for the Monday before Christmas. I already have a few reviewers, but I still need four more. If you're interested in helping then please PM me for more details! Also, keep in mind that there's only a month to go before the deadline for the Winter Anthology. I look forward to reading all the stories! Thank you!!! Now, lets get to the Weekly Wrap Up!

Cia started us off this week by announcing "The House Always Wins" by Andr0gene as the selection for the CSR Book Club! Lots of members have already weighed in on this story and how they can't wait for the discussion day! Many couldn't wait to start reading it and some even read "The House Always Wins" for a second time.

We kept up the pace on Wednesday with our monthly edition of "Ask An Author" by Dark! This month was the 10th edition, and included questions for authors: Mark92, James Savik, and Iarwain. Also included in the Wednesday post was a plea for help. In order to keep the "Ask An Author" feature going, Dark needs your help! Check out the post for more information!

Friday, as always, we finished out the week with our resident prompt guru, Comicfan! He brought us two new prompts, one of which was a "list of words" and the other was a "creative" prompt. If you're looking to do some writing and not sure what to write, check out the prompts, maybe one of them will spark an idea that could even be featured in next weeks Prompt Me!

    Read, Write, & Review!!!!
  21. Renee Stevens
After the conclusion of my story Joined by Blood, I was asked by another author and friend, Nephylim, if she could "interview" Damian. I thought it sounded like a neat idea and agreed. That was months ago. Just recently, I was going through old files and found the completed interview. I am posting it here for your enjoyment.

SPOILER: If you have yet to read Joined by Blood, I would recommend you do so prior to reading Damian's interview as it contains some distinctive spoilers for the story. From this point forward, all content of this post are either Nephylim or Damian.

Damien is one of the characters in a vampire tale – Joined By Blood – from a talented writer Renee Stevens.

After having been kidnapped by one group of vampires, then rescued by another, he finds that he is bonded to a vampire prince, whose brother, the evil monster who kidnapped him, has bonded with his own sister, whom he desperately wants to redeem.

This is a story of coming to terms with enormous change… of circumstance and perspective. Go on a journey of discovery as Damien learns when to hold on and when to let go.

What was the worst moment of your life?

The worst moment in my life? Believe it or not, it wasn’t even the being kidnapped. I honestly think the worst moment is a toss-up between finding out my entire relationship with my sister was a lie, the realization that I couldn’t save her, or witnessing the pain the Vik suffered when he had to kill his own brother. It would be nearly impossible to pick between the three.

How did you feel when you realised that you were bonded to a vampire? How did you feel when you realized you were bonded to two vampires?

Stunned. Disbelieving. Confused. All of the above. I had accepted by then that vampires existed, but just like when I first found out I was bound to Vik, there was so much more than just finding out I was bound to Dante as well. Those two don’t do anything in half measures and not only did they bind me to BOTH of them, without me knowing, but they changed me. It’s a lot to take in, and there are still moments when I think it’s a dream. A really good dream, but a dream nonetheless.

When did you realise you were in love with each?

I always chuckle when I hear this, because I don’t think it was ever a smack me upside the head moment. My feelings for both my men grew over time, even when I didn’t know what I was feeling. When I told Vik I loved him I was still so unsure of so many things, and Dante was one of the things I was unsure of. The one thing I was sure of was that I felt more for Vik than I ever had for anyone else. He was my safe place, the one person at the time that I felt connected to and the one person that I felt I could trust.

With Dante, it was a little different. There was always something there, and I wasn’t the only one who felt it. Like with Vik though, I knew I was safe with him, I knew that I could trust him, and by the time we were all bound together, all those feelings had morphed and become a greater love than I’d ever experienced in my life. I just can’t really pinpoint the one moment when I said to myself “I love him” with either of the guys. It kind of feels like it’s just always been there.

Do you still regret that you couldn’t save your sister?

Regret is such a strong word. Do I wish she could have been redeemed, of course I do, but I did everything I could to save her. In reality, Becca quit being my sister a long time before the end, I’m not really even sure who she was anymore. The one thing I have asked myself repeatedly since that day is if anything of the sister I had known was still in there.

Was it truly her that turned so evil or was it the thing inside her? That’s something I’ll never know for sure, but I did what had to be done. I refuse to live my life full of regret, besides, I doubt Vik or Dante would let me. Also, in a way, we did save her. Not in the way I would have liked, but she’s free from the ancient soul that was engrained within her.

Everyone knows how special you are; do you?

I’m really nothing special. I mean, I know that there has to be something about me, otherwise neither Vik nor Dante would want to be with me, so there’s got to be something, but I’m just me.

If you could have changed one thing what would it have been?

This might surprise you, since I’m sure you expect me to say that I wish I could have saved Becca, and while that is true to a point, that isn’t the one thing I would change above all else. If I could go back and change anything, it would be for me and Vik to realize sooner what Dante was to us. It would have saved Dante so much pain if we had only realized what the three of us had.

What are your hopes for the future?

I could tell you that I just wish to spend the rest of my life with Vik and Dante, and in a way that’s true, but there’s so much more. I hope that, eventually, our kind no longer have to remain hidden away. I hope we never again have to fight the ancient soul that wants to destroy us. In the end, I really just want our clan and ourselves to be happy, whatever route that may take, I’m willing to do what it takes.

If you could have one wish what would it be?

One wish is so limiting. I’m not sure I could narrow down things to one single wish. Actually, now that I think about it, there is something that I would wish for above all else. I would wish that our kind could walk into the sunlight. I haven’t even been a vampire long, but not being able to go into the sun really sucks, I can only imagine how it is for those who have been vampires for far long, like Dante and Vik.

Do you wish that the whole thing had never happened?

No. If it had never happened then I wouldn’t have everything I have now, and I don’t mean material things. Where would I be now if it had never happened? It probably wouldn’t be sleeping between two of the greatest guys I’ve ever had the good fortune to meet every night. If everything that happened was the price I had to pay to be where I’m at now, then I can only say that while it wasn’t pleasant and I could only hope to never have to face such a situation again, I wouldn’t trade anything.

Are you happier now than you were before?

Being happy is really subjective. I would say that yes I am happier than I ever have been, but that is kind of a hard distinction to make. Throughout my life there have been countless times that I’ve been overwhelmingly happy, but in a different way, and there were things I know now that cast a bit of a gloom on my happiness. If you take away the things I have learned that I wish I never had, then I would say that yes, I’m happier than I was before in most aspects.

How did you cope through the bad times? What was it that kept you going when you were lost?

I think what helped me cope and kept me going, is that I was never alone. Through everything in my life, there has always been someone there to support me and guide me when I needed it. There’s times when things have almost gotten too much, but the same stands true. I’m not alone in anything that I go through anymore, in fact, quite the opposite. I not only have one guy to help me through the rough patches, I have two. And they both know that I’ll do the same for them.

    What’s your favourite possession?

I really don’t have a favorite possession. Vik had told me we could go to my home one night and get more of my stuff, but we haven’t done it yet and I’m not really in any hurry. Besides, there’s not that much room in the caves for a lot of possessions anyways.

What’s your favourite place to be?

Would it be totally cheesy to say anywhere that Vik and Dante are? Yeah? Okay. Other than that, my favorite place to be would be this little waterfall that’s not too far from the lair. Now that there’s not a constant threat hanging over my head, I’ve had the opportunity to explore around my new home. The waterfall is so peaceful, I love to just lay there on the grass next to the bank and stare up at the stars while I listen to the waterfall. There’s very little in this world that is more peaceful and calming than that.

Well, it's time to get a kickstart on the weekend again, and what better way to do that than to provide two new prompts from our prompt guru, Comicfan. Why not give them a try and share them with the community in the Prompt Forum!

    Prompt 212 – Creative
    Tag – List of Words
Use the following words in a story – sword, tuna fish, compass, flip flops, and a star.

    Prompt 213 – Creative
    Tag – First Line
“You want me to do what?”

I was looking through the prompt responses and for today's feature prompt, I decided on a response to Prompt 192: Use the following words in a story – baseball, handcuffs, torn pants, dollar bill, and a nun. Labrador did a wonderful job with this prompt and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
