  1. Dodger, I just wanted to take a minute to say that every time you post a new chapter, it makes my day. This is the best story ever. It's as good now as it was in the beginning. Better, actually. I (selfishly) hope there are at least 122 more chapters still to come. Followed by a sequel! I don't know how you do it, but thank you for being so good at what you do.
  2. This is fantastic work. Thank you for continuing this amazing story, Dodger.

    Lost In Shadow 3

Totally hooked! I’ve been working on an incredible experiment for nearly 20 years. The goal is to make 3,700 clones of Comsie. Which would give us (“us” = people who are addicted to Comsie’s stories) 3,700 times more new chapters than we’re currently getting, with only one Comicality having to do everything himself. Although I can’t claim to have succeeded in my quest (yet), I do feel that a major breakthrough is imminent. I’ve already written up plans for the first 2,000 Comicalities to devote themselves exclusively to Savage Moon for at least 5 years. And I’ll probably have the rest of the Comsies finishing Billy Chase’s life story (so we’all never see them again.....) It’s truly depressing to realize that not even 3,700 Comsie’s would be enough to satisfy my cravings for more material to binge-read....

    Chapter 49

I predict total disaster for Billy & friends at Jamie Cross' party. Comsie has done such a brilliant job of introducing so many potentially ticking time bombs throughout these 9 journals of Billy's, that there are literally an infinite number of combinations of people and secrets and gossip that could potentially come together on Friday night. It's inevitable that at least one of the Billy Haters is going to show up and instigate major drama: Jimmy, AJ, Bobby, or (more likely) all of the above. What's Ian going to do when he finds out about Billy and Bobby's past? What's Brandon going to do when he finds out about Billy and AJ/Robin? What's Ollie going to do when he finds out about Brandon and Greg? What's Stevie going to do when faced with the reality of Billy and Brandon? What's Sam going to do when faced with the reality of Joanna and Jamie Cross? The stage has been set, and the only logical outcome is one big huge giant debacle. I can't wait to see where all the pieces will land once the dust settles. Personally, I would like to see Sam decide to further explore his bisexual side with Ian. And, as was already mentioned by several others above, I would love to see Bobby and Jimmy become obsessed with each other and live happily ever after. But most of all, I am desperately hoping that Billy will finally -- after 449 chapters -- go all the way with Jamie Cross! And if he doesn't want to re-destroy his barely-healed relationship with Brandon, they will need to make it a threesome. That would be hot!

    Chapter 6

I love the California scenes the best. But I also love the Becker scenes. And I have to say that it's truly fascinating to watch these scenes again, except from Kevin's perspective this time. (Side note: when I originally read about Kevin breaking up with Becker in The Best Four Years of Adam Becker, the impression I had is that Kevin is just a complete bastard. (And I understand that this was because the events were told from Becker's viewpoint.) But after seeing things through Kevin's eyes, I totally understand why Kevin had to end things with Becker before leaving for Paris. Statements such as this one, say it all: "We’re, like, exclusive fuck buddies with a romantic component." Seriously?! That was a fantastic line but Jesus Christ is Becker clueless or what?!) The Paris scenes are quite compelling too -- very readable and never boring -- but I'm just not feeling Kevin + Duncan with anywhere close to the same intensity and passion as Kevin + Matt, and Kevin + Becker. What's really cool about the Paris scenes is what they reveal about Kevin and his relationship proclivities i.e. Kevin clearly (to the reader -- it's not clear to Kevin himself at all) needs an experienced and smart therapist to help him see, understand, and overcome the self-destructive part of him which causes him to instinctively/subconsciously pursue guys who are unattainable / unavailable in the way that Kevin purports to want them to be available. Kevin claims that all he wants is someone to love, who will love him back, and he says he wants a relationship that's public and exclusive where they don't have to hide who and what they are, individually and to each other. Yet, any objective observer can easily see that Kevin is never going to get this kind of relationship with Matt, the "straight" guy who doesn't appear to have the will or the desire to live a life that goes against his family's expectations for him. Nor is Kevin ever going to get this kind of relationship with Becker, the closeted guy who, very similar to Matt, does not appear to have the will or the desire to be true to himself, if doing so means going against his family's expectations for him. (Even though, in Becker's case, there is no evidence that I've seen, that his family would not be accepting of him, if he were to simply announce to them that he's gay -- in other words, I think that Becker himself has more of a problem with Becker being gay, then his family would, if they were to find out about him -- which is clearly not the case with regard to Matt's family.) Kevin is also not going to get the kind of relationship he says he wants, with Duncan -- Duncan who is already in a (sort of) committed relationshipo with Sebastian. Getting back to the original question: the short answer is that I am most engaged with the Califronia storyline. But I find all of the storylines (and especialliy their possible eventual intersection!) to be engaging. This story and its companion are both amazing. The dialogue especially is so authentic. Thanks for all the hard work you've put in to writing these two novels.
  6. This story just keeps getting better and better and better with every new chapter. It's a remarkable accomplishment. Personally I'm very disappointed (but, admittedly, not surprised) at the direction that the Alex storyline has taken. Having said that -- the last 2 chapters are probably the best ones yet -- very well done, painful to read, and so true to life. Thank you, Dodger.

    Chapter 5

Totally worth the wait. This story is riveting! I really hope that Matt shows up in Paris at the end. To tell Kevin that he was wrong. To say that he's sorry. And to beg for Kevin's forgiveness. Because he sees clearly, now, that Kevin is the love of his life. And they deserve to live happily ever after. Then, the next day (disclaimer: I can suggest this because you brought Lila Quartermaine in to the story - and when Lila Quartermaine gets involved, anything can happen!) -- the next day, I hope that Becker shows up in Paris. To tell Kevin that he was wrong. That he's sorry. And begs for Kevin's forgiveness. Because he sees clearly, now, that Kevin is the love of his life. And they deserve to live happily ever after. I have no idea who Kevin should or would choose (maybe both!) but I definitely hope they live happily ever after...

    Chapter 47

I am still trying to win the lottery. When I win the lottery, the first item on the agenda will be an attempt to bribe Comsie with five million dollars. The catch will be that he can only write Gone From Daylight and Savage Moon for one year. It's hard to say which is less likely: me winning the lottery, or Comsie agreeing to this deal. Nevertheless, I remain irrationally optimistic. Sometimes things really do work out....
  9. With no disrespect intended towards ColumbusGuy, I believe that this story is moving forward at the perfect pace. Every chapter of The Cockney Canuck is page-turner material. We would all be better off, if this story never ends. Even (especially) Dodger! Case in point: look at what's happened to the genius author CJames. He chose to end his riveting saga Circumnavigation (which could and should have easily continued for at least another 1,300,000 words.) Since then, CJames has never been heard from again. Do we really want to never hear from Dodger again? No way!

    Chapter 32

Incredible. Thank you so much for continuing to tell this tale over so many years. This chapter alone is longer than most books! I can't begin to fathom how much time and effort you must put in to this. Your hard work is sincerely appreciated. I really, really, really (x infinity) love this story. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Times infinity. Michael

    Chapter 31

I love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love (x infinity) this story! Thank you for the update.

    Chapter 4

I love this story, I love the vignettes showing crucial scenes from Kevin’s relationships, past and present, and the similarities, the differences, the things Kevin has learned from hard experience, or thinks he has learned. I’m a sucker for first love because it never works out in real life. So I’m still hoping that Matt Barber will show up in Paris to confess his undying love for Kevin. But I like Becker too & wouldn’t mind at all if he and Kevin could somehow just work it out. Maybe they could try one of those 3 person relationships. Not a one night stand threesome; I mean where 3 people have a commitment the way that couples normally do, at least in Western society....
  13. I was having the worst day ever until noticing that a new chapter was posted to The Cockney Cancuk. And voila, just like that, everything is better. Thank you so much for writing this brilliantly entertaining story, Dodger. It just keeps getting better and better. Please publish this as an ebook so that your fans will have a way to support your fantastic work. Michael
  14. I think Nathan is lying about the timing of when Alex hit on him (Nathan). Didn't Alex and Nathan act weird around each other before Nathan and Robbie were even a thing? And who goes from supposedly having their first real-life sexual experience, to wanting a threesome just a few weeks later (besides, apparently, Nathan)? In other words, I don't believe that Nathan was the virgin that Robbie perceived him to be, when Robbie and Nathan first hooked up. I suspect Nathan and Alex were together at least once, before Robbie ever even showed up in town. If Alex really was trying to get with Nathan, when he (Alex) knew that Nathan and Robbie were together, then Alex totally sucks and Robbie should steer clear of him. But, as others have already commented, regardless of what Alex and Nathan may or may not have done, and when, the odds seem pretty high that Robbie's desire for another "romp in the hay" with Alex will soon come to fruition...

    Chapter 2

Wow. This is very poignant and compelling. Fantastic writing. Personally I can't wait to find out more details about Matt the Mormon. I can't offer any rational reason for why I feel this way, but....just from the brief glimpses we've had so far, it seems like Matt and Kevin must have had a beautifully intense relationship. And I'm kind of hoping that Matt will unexpectedly show up in Paris to profess his undying love for Kevin. Either the week before, or the week after, Becker does the same thing!
  16. This is so well written and had me laughing out loud at least a dozen times. The story is just as riveting now as it was in the beginning. More so, actually. Thank you, Dodger! -Michael PS - I second everything that JayT said above about Alex and Robbie.

    hands tied

So happy you're back, and that this excellent story continues. You are a fantastic writer. Keep up the great work!
  18. But in all seriousness, @Dodger, whenever you do post the apparently-imminent "final chapter", would you please make this into an ebook so that I can buy 20 "copies". Hell even buying it a hundred times would still be the greatest bargain ever, considering how much entertainment and enjoyment this fantastic saga has provided over the past few years. You're an immensely talented writer -- truly, every single one of your stories is rivetting. There really isn't any adequate way to say thank you for all of the hard work and effort you clearly put in to your writing. Whenever I get a notification that you've added a new chapter (to any of your stories), it always makes me happy and gives me something to really look forward to. Thank you! Michael
  19. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. Wow. This was beautfiully written. Totally unexpected. But, looking at it objectively (which is obviously not something Peter/Adam would be capable of doing at this time), it's undoubtedly for the best. Kevin made the right decision. He (Kevin) wants to be out. Adam doesn't. It's not exactly something you can meet half-way about. Anyway - as difficult as this was to read (because it was sad!), I don't think it means there isn't any hope for these boys in the future. Who knows what will happen. Never say never. In the meantime, Adam ought to be taking his friends' (essentially non-) reaction to Kevin's coming out, as a very positive thing with regard to his own situation. The irony is that the longer Adam waits to come out, the more likely it is to be a "big deal" to his friends (and family). And if he is involuntarily outed -- especially if it's part of some larger political machinations (e.g. some enemy of Adam's father trying to use Adam's sexuality against the senator) then it's going to be an even bigger deal. Great story, can't wait to find out what happens next!
  21. Doesn't Robbie always wear briefs or is that just wishful thinking on my part?
  22. That last scene! Almost every chapter makes my eyes water at some point but this was worse than usual. Or better as the case may be. Thank you, @Dodger for the consistently great storytelling. -Michael PS - Nathan by his actions isn't exactly leaving any doors open for poor Alex to worm his way deeper into Robbie's heart.....maybe after Tom leaves, Don will put his foot down by forcing Robbie to go on a week-long backpacking trip with his "lady's man" friend (Alex). Or he could send them on a heliskiing jaunt in the Cariboos, where they'd have to share a room at the lodge to save on expenses. Or he could sign them up for one of those Alaskan adventure survival challenges, kind of like Into the Wild except (hopefully) minus the starving to death part.....
  23. Alex has really grown on me ever since he let Robbie hide out at his place when Robbie was "running away" from home/Don. And even more so, after learning how Alex has been pretty much the only one looking out for Luke, basically for Luke's entire life. Alex and Robbie have a natural chemistry when they're together. As much as I like Nathan, and certainly don't want to see him get hurt, I actually think it would be awesome if Robbie ended up with Alex. Yes, Nathan and Robbie are totally cute together. But Alex and Robbie are smoking hot and their chemistry is so obvious that even Nicola sees it. And yes, I do understand that many observers wouldn't hesitate to label Robbie a fool (or much worse), were Robbie to decide not only to overlook -- or justify -- or forgive -- what Alex did way back in Chapter 24 (which, let's face it, he's already done) but also to actively pursue a relationship with Alex. I would urge everyone who's shaking their head in dismay at the idea of Robbie and Alex becoming a couple, to think about this: it is entirely possible that Tom has come to realize, over the past 8 months, that he's totally 100% flaming gay. Furthermore, it is a fact that Tom and Nathan are about to meet for the first time. What if Tom and Nathan meet, and it's love at first sight for those two boys? There's no logical reason why this isn't exactly what is about to happen. Tom + Nathan = True Love! Sure, Robbie would be crushed once he realizes that his boyfriend and his best friend can't keep their eyes -- or their hands -- off of each other. Yes, he would be crushed .... but only for about five minutes. That's when it would suddenly hit him (really awful pun sort of intended) that yes, Nicola was right, Alex really does like him. Even better, Nicola was also right that he (Robbie) really does like Alex. Fact: in virtually every chapter since 24 (except for when he was in a coma), poor Robbie has barely been able to restrain himself from succumbing to his incredibly strong urges to get naked with Alex. Now, with his (former) boyfriend and his best friend off in their own world (probably planning their wedding), Robbie can finally give in to his true desire. Guilt-free, I might add! Robbie's true desire, of course, is to be with Alex. Alex's true desire is to be with Robbie. And they all lived happily ever after. What could be more perfect?! Thank you, Dodger, for writing a story that's so awesome, it compels me to manufacture ridiculous pseudo-fan-fiction in the comments. Michael PS - To anyone who isn't all-in on the idea of Robbie + Alex: just imagine Don's face when he realizes that "lady's man" Alex, is actually Robbie's man. Priceless!
  24. I feel like I know Kevin so much better now. Those scenes with Adam (I'm not even sure if I should refer to him as 'Adam' or 'Peter' or 'Becker' - although somehow I get the feeling that this is the kind of thing an English teacher would hear and their response would be, "Precisely!") -- anyhow, the scenes in this chapter with Adam and Kevin were quite poignant, all the more so because of how clueless Adam is. Yet it's impossible to "blame" him, since he has absolutely nothing in his life experience -- no context at all -- that would allow him to understand anything about Kevin's life before his escape to Tulane. It's one thing to spend a few hours per year as a volunteer in a soup kitchen, and something else entirely, to have spent half of your life in the kind of grim reality that defined Kevin's teenage years. If I were a college English professor, this book would be on the syllabus of required reading. For the midterm, I would make half of the students re-write the portions of this chapter where Kevin and Adam are together, only they'd have to write each scene from Kevin's perspective instead of Adam's. For extra credit, they could continue the scene after Adam goes back to Nevada, i.e. we'd get to see what Kevin does for real once he's alone with his brother and (presumably later) his mother. And the other half of the class would have to re-write the Adam/Kevin scenes, except in the third person. It would be required to use the exact same dialogue, and the exact same sequence of events. I think it would be so cool to see what people would write. Either that, or it would be totally depressing to realize that most of the class could barely put together a coherent sentence, much less think up anything creative and interesting. Fortunately for the college students of the world, I will never be an English professor - at least, not in this lifetime. Can't wait to find out what's going to happen next....
  25. I really like this story. I totally identify with Adam and his conflicting desires to at once be himself, be proud of his relationship with Kevin, yet not be known as "the gay boy", especially when he's already known as "that senator's boy". Adam definitely did the right thing by letting Kevin go to Europe. Sure, it might ultimately mean the end of their relationship, -- but if Adam had insisted that Kevin NOT study abroad, it is 100% certain that would have been the beginning of the end of Kevin + Adam. It's also interesting how easy it is for me as an outside observer, to wonder why Adam would fear coming out to his friends. Because it's obvious that his friends would be totally fine with it. There's not even a fraction of a chance that Jordan or Tripp's friendship with Adam would change in any way if they learned he is gay. Hell, even the laughably coarse and un-politically-correct (yet often charming in spite of himself) Erik wouldn't have a problem with Adam being gay. Sure, he'd inevitably make an excessive number of insensitive comments and tasteless jokes about it, especially at first -- but my gut says Erik would defend Adam in any situation if push came to shove. And obviously Justine isn't going to care either. But Adam is seeing everyone and everything through his own distorted perspective. What would help him more than anything -- but there's really no way he would ever realize this until much later in life -- would be if he could find a really smart, open-minded, caring yet objective psychologist or therapist or counselor, and see them once a week for the rest of his time in college. He needs an adult authority figure in his life who has the wherewithawl to get him to understand, more through their actions than by saying it directly, that he's totally fine just the way he is. I really appreciate how you have kept going with this story for so much time. I feel like each chapter gets better and better. Thanks for all the hard work you've obviously put in to this project. -Michael
