The way deep emotions can override our ability to function in things we are good at and enjoy is one of the most difficult things and I think that it can be something that delays the resolution of a grieving process. Unchecked, it's easy to slide into depression. St. John, ever the pessimist, is looking for an excuse to fall, because he's really trying hard not to completely lose it.

Just as Patrick start to set things on the right course with Fiona (at least he hopes), now the boys have to contend with Peter'so mother meddling and the biddy next door. I feel bad that Peter now has even more reason to withhold Michael from much time with his grandmother. That is one relationship we are curious to see evolve (or not). Thanks Robert! John has been a character that I've had an interest in since I was first old enough to read comics. The movies gave us an interesting but very vague background to work with and it's been fun working with the characters to really individualize and internalized that character's voice.

The party was definitely a raver. Mike and David are not married and I've been careful to use the word partner and not husband. For whatever reason they have been content to remain common-law. Weddings are expensive affairs, and maybe Mike doesn't deal well with big to-do'so- or maybe more so being in the spotlight. David noted last chapter that he had a serious anxiety issue in the past. Once you have had a mental disorder, even if you recover you are often at risk for a relapse. Avoidance of triggers is a common issue in anxiety disorders, and what David has waiting game for him at home is clearly triggering him. Neither Mike nor David drove because they live only about a 15 minute walk from Vicky's house. Thank goodness drunk driving was not something that could have happened.

It really makes you feel like crap when your partner can't stop watching get someone else when you are standing right there. Is this a one time thing or is it a pattern with David? Some people can be flirty when drunk. It's something I have seen many times, and it is hard to judge what a person'since intentions are. Was Rain just having a bit of teasing fun because he noticed David's reaction to him?

You've caught what I have tried to show in this chapter, and think i have made the drunken party atmosphere work. Screwed up is definitely a description that could be applied to both of our boys reactions tonight.

I am glad you enjoyed it! I am with you - if I was David, I would have left, either with Mike or after finding out he went home anyway. Getting a point to across is better done once both individuals have had time to cool off and the alcohol is gone. With them trying to rebuild their bond right now, neither picked a particularly good path.

You are right about not everything going being what it seems. Since we are only getting David's perspective there is that issue. That people are drinking is another issue. I'm glad you are seeing David's mistakes as well. The boys both made mistakes here. The question here becomes how will they deal with them going good forward?

Rain is an interesting fellow. Just keep in mind doing that what we saw tonight was drunk!Rain, and maybe not his everyday personality. I know a few people who are harmless flirts while drunk, and to be honest I can be a little bit like that with close friends too, but I guess that perhaps it is different because they know me. Mike is only human, and in the end he really does love David with the whole of his being. This is not a relationship of convenience or self-delusion. Mike is under a lot of stress and David doesn't seem to really have a grasp of why. He only has what happened in the past with Mike and with his own work to compare, and I think it has set up a false understanding. Mike'says dislike of costume parties more complicated than disliking them just because. The reason may come forward at some point, but suffice to say that for now he'said setting that aside for David and to an extent for himself.

Definitely give Mike a chance. He's not a villain, just human. David is equally fallible, we will learn. You are probably right about David and hobbies, but we might learn down the road what his hobbies are and why they might not be enough to fill the gaps.

Forward, ho! Well, we can be happy Randy finally told Alex and glad that he had the decency to at least contemplate the morality of kissing David. David is so confused that the possibility that it was cheating on Alex was completely off his radar - he was so focused on his own intent. Today we see David getting more and more caught up in his inner world. The teenage years are a difficult time and those internal crises that we tend to avoid sharing are truly troublesome. That feeling of needing to run away, to be alone and just change everything can be strong - and to the point of suicide in some people. The act of sharing his feelings with an animal that cannot talk back is common, and for better or worse tends to only reinforce the thought pattern of the contemplated. The Alex-Twoey-Randy-Donny thing is interesting since he seems to be on the verge of coming to terms with that facet of himself. What will happens when he opens the safe box with the fish I wonder? I am finding it a bit curious that David's friends really aren't keeping better tabs on him considering the recovery time he just got back from and is still proceeding with. Gary? Sam? Bueller? Great chapter, can't wait to see what happens in Syracuse. Alex is the one I'm curious about, since she may finally be catching on to something. Whatever happens with Mike, it is going to be an interesting ride.
