  1. Kismet didn’t know what Taloric said to the person they pressed into driving, but people seemed to be moving out of their way with an alarming frequency, even pulling over to get out of the way. It wasn’t the first time since he was a boy that Kismet wished languages came more easily to him. Even though, he did notice he picked up Taloric’s native tongue with surprising ease, maybe it was his motivation for learning or the way he had been taught. However it was the first time he had seen Taloric

    Tick Tock

Tick Tock He presented his worries to his cousins and they promised to look into it for him as they were more familiar with the procedures of ship tracking than he was. He did manage to get a communication through to Amberly, though. “Hey little bro.” “Kismet?” “Who else would travel halfway across the universe to keep you from tripping over your own two feet?” “Bri is here and Bobby is on the way. You didn’t have to come.” “I had to come, Amberly. Besides, Puck is my brothe
  3. There was only so much a man could take. Even a not-quite human man. Mia proved to be a total pest. She showed up at his door at odd times, just as she always had; only now she was making inquiries about Kismet’s family – about his family. The final straw was the day he came back from his last exam and found her in his room going through his travel bag. “What the hell?” he yelled as he slammed the door closed, trapping the two of them in the room. She squeaked and dropped the papers she

    Heartaches

The next day Kismet woke entwined with Taloric. A flood of mixed emotions coursed through him as he realized it wasn’t Mia’s warm flesh encompassed in his arms. He slowly extracted himself and slid off the bed to get dressed, he had early kitchen duty. “Do you want me to go with you?” Taloric asked as he began to sit up. “No you have your own morning duties. I will be fine but I don’t understand a few things.” “Such as?” Kismet looked at the sheets. “Oh. Uncle and I talked for qui
  5. Valdorn did his best not to vary his regular routine. He figured that by staying as close to his regular schedule as possible he would keep people from asking too many questions and for the most part he was right. However, by dark the campus was swarming with government officials. Valdorn smirked, they must have missed Kismet at Juniper Station. Many people were beginning to question Kismet’s illicit behavior. Valdorn would have begun to question it himself from the way everyone was talking i
  6. Although time aboard the ship was set to Seberian Standard, which by the best Kismet could figure was longer than Earth Standard but shorter than Space Standard. He could not tell exactly how much as they kept travelling at speeds that Kismet swore bent time, even though he had been taught that was physically impossible. Mostly he spent his time with Taloric. They did share quarters and a bunk, but Kismet found he didn’t mind. This was Val’s brother. He had shared a room with Val forever, beside
  7. While Kismet was on the phone with his father, one of his dorm mates came up upstairs bearing the message a man wearing what appeared to be a government-issue suit complete with earbug and weapon was prowling around the bottom floor flashing a very official looking government-issue badge. The badge-flasher also asked a few people some specific enough questions as they were leaving that they were worried about Kismet’s safety. Questions leading enough they believed the man knew about the search K

    Liar, Liar

A few hours later, Kismet found himself on the phone lying to his mother. He had a very strong need for her to do as he asked, and an even stronger need for her not to know the real reason why he asked. So, he was speaking to her in calm tones, trying to explain that Amberly had been injured and that was why he would not be attending his own graduation. Local medical staff had treated his injuries and his employer had contacted Kismet, because after their mother’s last case of hysterics all thre

A Bloody Mess Torzet was stunned. For once in his life he didn’t know what to do. Luckily for him he didn’t need to know what to do. The guards had rushed into the room when they heard the shouting so they had heard every bit of the curse. There was blood on his hands. The owner was blubbering over the death of his precious, coin-earning daughter. Torzet was caught in the backlash of the death of his Bound. His guards caught him by both arms and literally lifted him and carried him out. Ga

Temple Fiasco Matov stood across from Windal in the predawn light. The priest had called for daily practices of the Ritual of the Sunrise with the promise of a Royal Wedding looming on the horizon. The new cousin, which had been brought in to make five, was very young and followed direction well, but Matov honestly felt sorry for him as he was easily overawed by Torzet. “Matov, please come up here and do the part of the Eldest Unbound.” “Shouldn’t Windal or Alvaz?” “Alvaz is excused

Dipping the Wick “Take me into town, please cousin?” Gawen asked Torzet. “I have coin enough for both of us if that is the problem.” “My father is generous. The coin isn’t the problem. I have to take an escort so there can be no girls in our room.” “So we can have a little grope and feel in the common rooms. Many of the girls will lift a skirt for next to no prompting in the halls or alleys if you have enough coin.” “Gah, I just hate being watched all the time. I don’t know how Anari

Connections Nearly three weeks had passed as they followed one lead after another and still they were no closer to finding the young man who was most likely Rix’s mate. The last credits had been applied to the personal communicator account a few days before the bachelor party and the research station did have someone working for them by the name on the account. However, they claimed he was away on a “special mission” and had been since the two days before Rix’s liaison. Worse, they would not

Out of Town Guests Clereva smiled at the serving girl as the girl finished serving the tea. Dismissing the girl once it was poured; she turned her attention back to her unwanted guest – her sister-in-law -- Uliza. “So you and the children are staying with us for a few weeks according to Jozet.” “Bravil sent Gawen to witness your brother’s wedding. Granted, he is the youngest legitimate heir, but the others are needed at their father’s side. Jozet suggested to Bravil he come. I know the off

    Speaking of Rescues

whooo wheee got everybody guessing and sweating bullets... man this is fun... I think I really like this chapter by chapter thing. And another good plot theory. I like it. It's almost evil.

YOU? Creeped out? YAY! (oh sorry... um... YAY!) I still don't want you to crawl out of your skin though. That would be nasty. Blood and muscle everywhere. Although that would make a kick ass scene.... herm... keeps that one in mind. Thanks again Nephy.

    Speaking of Rescues

See there's that evil word again.. you really should not be tossing that word around when I'm in the middle of writing the next installment. It's just not... smart. Makes it rougher on the next set of characters. Poor Amberly/Brianna/Rix etc... sighs. It was kinda easy wasn't it? Maybe Bobby isn't as smart as he thinks he is. Thanks for reading!

    Speaking of Rescues

for something this short, it's not really chapters, they are scenes, so at the end of the action (ie end scene) although some of you might disagree. Anyway.... the wait is killing me too cause the good part is at the end! And I want to know what you all think. I'm beginning to wonder how it will really affect the read/reviews, but that is one of the reasons I did it. Bobby's perspective has been fun. Although it's odd... they call Amberly the lab rat. I wonder how much of that his "knowledge" and how much he reseached and faked. I think I showed how close of a family they were in Monday. Or I tried to. It would make sense that they branched out and "married" people who were just as family oriented as they were, don't you think?
  20. The bright red bag was universal. An orderly pushing a cart in full hazmat gear was not out of the ordinary. Biohazard tags were a little odd, but not so much that anyone made comment. The fact that the elevator was going up, not down, might have brought attention had it been noticed. Maybe the security alarm going off in the psych ward eight floors up and two wards over had something to do with that. Down elevators, not up were being watched. The guard at the transport station looked at the pap

I'm trying... honest. Trick is getting it out of my head and on the page the way I want it to sound. I'm not sure i meant for the Center to become such a villian but um... yay! I can manage that. Thanks for reading, and keep it up.

    Complications

I love you Q. Rix did something to Puck. That's for sure. And as for what is going on at Mama Hanover's House... Maybe SHE didn't get HER shots! As for the Center. At first I thought of it as something like the CDC and maybe it started out that way, but it got a little out of control and while it's not quite into racial purity there have been rumors of experimental testing. When some species first came in contact with others, there were odd reactions which caused the need for "the shots" not all speicies reacts together. Most the time it's benign and can be treated in a hospital and released. Other times...
