    Swan Chapter 4

I beg to differ No where do you state that this daydreaming of looking into the possible future when you state: "What I had not told my guardian, was that I was enjoying the time onboard the famous research submarine Aquaria, owned by the private Swiss corporation – Wagner Family Corp, " But it is not worth arguing since you kind of clarified it your response.

    Swan Chapter 4

The last portion of this chapter have me very confused. First stating that suddenly the Wagner family not the Lloyd Corp owns the Aquaria. Second After Xander met with who himself?

    Surv Chapter 4

I am surprised Uncle Nat has not made a call to the military authorities so the Europeans can be gathered for questioning or at least followed when they get down from the Mountain

    empty.
  9. I am glad to see Granger and Calverts reconciliation. Maybe that will followed by others and result in far different scenario than last time Granger was in England. Unfortunately we have no clue as to who his "guide" into London will be and what surprises maybe waiting for him.

    Chapter 13

Very astute that George received from his father. If things appear normal, the gossip, if there isany will be dismissed by many. However, if I was George I would be looking towards finding the servant with the big mouth. That servant apparently can not trusted and should either be dismissed (that may not be the best) or removed to an area where he is not a problem in the future.

    Chapter 10

My thinking on the Caroline/Treadway matter, is that Caroline outright rejected his advances and he refused to take no for answer. So Caroline had forced used to handle the situation. She isn't telling George because she is worried his reaction will be the hurt Treadway. With Treadway being related to Spencer,Caroline is afraid that wouldhurt George's career. Anyway, that is my take on the situation.
  12. While we wait patiently for Grainger to return, just a few items to ponder. The length of famous or infamous works, The Gettysburg address is 269 words. The Declaration of Independence is 1,337 words. The Holy Bible is 773,000 words. No idea of the version and remember this is compilation of many authors work. However, the tax code is more than 7 million words today. The Bridgemont series while not competing with the government now stretches over 1.18 million words and unlike the tax code can be understood and comprehended. Good work Mark.

    Chapter 9

Well Spencer sure gave George a few interesting tasks to tackle. Let's see whether George's refined manners, coupled with his military command are up to the tasks. I can imagine it will be difficult to advise Nelson to temper his public outrages, but hope tht George will be able to approach as a friend and not a subordinate. Transporting a Scottish peer to the Otterman Empire, I question if George was right man for the job. Undoubtably George can handle the peer, his wife and staff, but can he handle Turkey. The King to visit a ship. This can not be very common. I hope the crew recognizes the honor. Lastly, just give all the students A's and keep writing. Seriously, we understand you have other commitments and trust you will continue writing as time permits.

    Chapter 8

It looks like William is a chip off the old block. He seems at ease at sea for a 6 year old and Caroline got her wish of sailing on one of Georges ships. Know I wonder until the next chapter what special assignment is in store for George and the Valiant.
  15. Kookie

    Chapter 7

Interesting to find out that the Valiant handles bad weather rather well. Could it be that the Valiant can tackle forces larger than himself with the weather cooperating, high seas and storms, as unpleasant as the thought is. I hope the marines can learn to keep their lunch.

    Chapter 6

What no battle! Just kidding, an another chapter. Apparently Lord Keith does not hold any animosity towards George at least he did not show any. Interesting the St. Vincent choose to return to England in a captured Brig, but indicates to me that he puts the needs of the service above his own. As St. Vincent seems somewhat grumpier than usual, it should make for an interesting return trip.
  17. a lot has been said about George promoting Hornblower's career. While I see that happening on a very limited scale, the fact that Spencer seems to feel that Pellow almost Forced him (Spencer) to promote him. A decision that Spencer seems to be second guessing. Thus I see George taking a back-seat approach to assisting Hornblower preferring to use his political and naval influence in more productive means. Notice he (George) did not protest Hornblower's assignment.

    Chapter 5

George as expected seems to be doing his best to enhance Hornblower and his career. Hopefully it will do some good. I am undecided if being sent to retrieve St Vincent is a mark of favoritism towards George or St Vincent. Or merely a convience for the service. It does not seem to have pleased George.
  19. Lord St Vincent (Jervis) was replaced as commander in Mediterranean in 1799. Therefore, even though, George's pronounced preference was the Mediterranean Fleet, I believe he will be sent to the North Sea Fleet and dispatched on separate patrol (maybe in co-junction with a smaller Frigate or Sloop). In addition, Lord St. Vincent and Lord Nelson were in charge of the Channel Fleet in 1800 (St Vincent as Commander and Nelson as Vice commander).

    Chapter 4

Things seem to progressing very smoothly (maybe too much so). George now has a full compliment of officers, and sufficient men to man the vessel. It appears we will be sailing in the summer. But atlas, where to. Spencer has not issued orders as to which fleet the Valiant will be assigned. It was good that Kingsdale has returned from Ireland and rejoined with George. The surprise was young Travis. Hopefully, he will not remind George too much of the late Dashing Cpatain and Lover.
  21. Sorry, I took some time to respond to your question asked in response to my review of chapter 1. Some of it was me having problems reconciling the time frame of Book 3 with the other 2 books and some was pure laziness on my part. Even with the timeline problem I was having, the story has continued to attract my attention. I look forward to the innovated warfare and invasion Paul and the Geeks plan and will be interested in seeing how California and Australia play a part in the overall "war".

    Chapter 3

I understand George's concern that the Marines may be more loyal to Treadway than to him and the ship, but given that George has a loyal key group of men comprising his crew that willingly follows him from station to station, I do not see how George can hold it against Treadway of the marines. In fact, I view it as being favorable in marking the officer as a leader of men not just the officer who happens to be in charge.
  23. My guess is he would use his coat of arms on the coaches. What it would be was a topic of discussion in the forums about an earlier book of the Bridgemont Series. As far as on stationary, I do not know what was the norm for aristocracy of that era.
  24. The "summer Home" on the Isle of Wright sounds wonderful, but no doubt will further antagonize some of his fellow Naval Officers. I am sure, it will provide the perfect environment for entertaining and hosting various captains and admirals and will provide a place where such officers can relax and discuss their concerns without them being broadcast to the fleet.

    Chapter 2

I think it is great that George has now met his two counterparts in Fictional Historical writings about the Napoleonic Era. George had little use for Jack Aubrey, who he met on the Leander and appears not at all please with the physical appearance of Hornblower. It will be interesting if Mark provides adequate time to see how Hornblower is compared to Granger or if it is treated as a mere passage of two famed characters.
