But it sparked a thought: can people switch their sexual orientation?
I mean... I did. I used to identify as bi, but I've lost nearly all sexual interest in women. Can still experience romantic feelings toward them, but no sexual attraction unless there's an emotional component involved. Sexuality can be fluid. It can change over time. Whereas it's set in stone for some, for others it's not.

Upon first glance at this thread, I immediately thought of one of my favorite stories on this site and the song that was mentioned near the end of the story
"Inside of You" by Hoobastank.
It is very obvious the song is about sex, especially when a particular admin writes about a particular toy in a particular story.
I would quite like to know which story this is.

The way they use the ø isn't to change the sound. It mimics the appearance of the cover art used some of the time.
Don't believe it's my browser, I tried to embed it...let me try it this way
Oh, I know they're not trying to change the sound. I'm saying ø is a letter and it sounds like the vowel sound in hurt or burst or flirt and it's absolutely hilarious to read as a person whose alphabet has that letter in it. It's funny because it's unintentional.

Something a little different for y'all.

This is also one of the sexiest songs I know. Part of that is Maynard's voice, because yum, but also, it's a very sensual lyric.

I stumbled back across this song last night. It still blows my mind that a heavy metal band did a cover of a Simon and Garfunkel classic. And did such an outstanding job. And damn if the message behind the song still doesn't ring true today... no one is listening to each other. Disturbed - The Sound of Silence. Damn, does David Draiman have a set of pipes.
I adore that version! I love it just as much as the original.

I haven't mastered the art of embedding videos
You have no idea how hilarious it is as a Scandinavian to see people use ø in place of o, because it does NOT make that sound in any language where it's a real letter.
Also, the videos are supposed to embed automatically when you paste the link in. Might be something with your device or browser?

Thank you so much to everyone who replied and thanks for making me feel welcome as well.
I hope you find lots of great stories to read here, and if you have stories to tell, I hope you share them with us.

It's totally okay! While the majority of the stories on GA are about men, there are absolutely stories about women. Like northie pointed out, there's a lesbian tag. Bisexual too. There are also stories about trans and nonbinary people. Personally, I'd love to see more diversity, so bring it on!
EDIT: Here's a link to the lesbian tag. One of mine is on there too.

Named the latest chapter of my Cyberpunk fanfic after this song. It's so beautiful and powerful. Don't let the quiet start trick you; it goes out with a bang.

Back in my teens, I started posting fanfic and other stuff online under a username that was based around my given name. I went many years without posting anything anywhere, and back in 2012 when I wanted to start again, I decided on a fresh start. The stuff I posted in my teens was mostly terrible too.
I wanted something gender neutral (I didn't really get why that was important to me at the time as I hadn't figured out my gender identity yet) most importantly, not too feminine. The name itself actually came from my original username on the Harry Potter website Pottermore. In the beginning, they didn't let you choose your own, to protect children so they wouldn't use their real names. You got three columns, the first two were words and the third a set of numbers, with ten options each. I picked thorn and wild from the first two columns cause I thought it sounded kind of magical. And I thought, that could work as a pen name. First it was ThornWild, and then I changed it to Thorn Wilde, partly to honour Oscar Wilde and partly just cause it looks more like a real name. I've been Thorn Wilde in all my online writing endeavours ever since.
I've considered changing it. I've picked a new irl first name for myself. But I've been Thorn Wilde for more than 8 years now. I'll save my real name for if I ever get trad published.

Thanks. i like knitting. I'm made a bunch of things. I really like colour work. I watch Arne and Carlos's channel on You Tube and started doing that because of them. During last year they did a daily podcast to try and help people during the first year of Covid. They offered little stranded colour work blocks each week for free. i've knitted several of them and made cushions for my nephew. I like them and also Kate at the Last Homely House.
That's very cool. My sister-in-law is who tried to get me into it. She picked it up when she was pregnant with my nephew. Now she makes a living at it, publishing knitting books, primarily with clothes for young children. She's also a photographer, so my niece and nephew model the clothes for the books. Which is cool. I just don't have the patience to get good at it. Have I mentioned I'm in the process of possibly getting an ADHD diagnosis? Suddenly my life is explained. 😅

Thanks. They are fast to make. Michael has ordered 20 for Xmas gifts. i said, I'll make them You open an Etsy shop.. haha.
If you open an Etsy shop, I'll totally buy one. Those are so precious! I've got this book for knitting little animals and also things like cacti with eyes, they're adorable, but I'm a terrible knitter so they never turned out very well.
Yours are awesome!

12 hours ago, Story Reader said:Hi everyone. I thought I would come back in and tell you what is going on in my life lately. I know all you you had freezing temps and probably no electricity and now busted pipes. I have the same thing. My sister has stipulated that my stepson and his wife have to get off the property since they are not paying rent or utilities. And that she will not shell out any more money to me after she has my trailer replumbed. She will be retiring tomorrow so her income will go down a lot. But she knows I have to live here and need water. I can not afford it cause I never made the kind of money she did to get by on and now that I live on my late husband's disabilty he was getting from Social Security then I am still in the same boat I was in when I worked but worse. The thing that happened today was bad. I finally called my stepsons wife when she texted me since my stepson seems to think other people are more important than his stepmom who is living on the same property I am. My sister is the administrator and executor of our dad's estate. I have no say so on what my sister does except if we sell the land. She said neither her, our brother or I own the land cause it is and always will stay in the estate unless it gets sold. But we can throw people off this land if they are freeloading off of one of us. My step daughter in law said she was going to sue us for throwing them off the land. I asked her if she was lying when she told me that they would leave the property if I told them to with no repercussions and no hard feelings. She hesitated and said finally that she was not lying. So I told her the third time that I wanted them to clean up the property that my stepson trashed and for them to find another place to live and move all their stuff off the land. My sister also said she got a hold of her lawyer and told them what was going on. Her lawyer told her that if she sued then there will be arrested for elderly abuse by not helping me at all like they both said they were going to do. Everything my stepson has done for me has never been finished. I still have trim to be put back on my walls, my back porch was never finished, and the wall paneling was never tacked down all the way. He did do my electricity and my plumbing that needed fixed in my bathroom 3 years ago which got finished. I could go on and on about what has happened but I will not do that. I am getting a worse headache now than it was before I started typing.
Hey. We haven't met yet, but I just wanted to say I'm sorry you're going through all this. It sounds very difficult and stressful. Hang in there! ❤️

Hello, DiC! Hope you're all doing well. It's almost Friday!
I've started working out. I have this class over Zoom, for trans-masc people who want to build muscles in a way that masculinises their bodies. I do it every Thursday evening now. Not seeing much change yet, but this is only my fourth week. So that's what I'll be doing tonight.
Take care, everyone!

A real band pretending to be a fictional band, with an awesome song. Samurai (actually Refused) with Black Dog.

I’ve been doing okay. The routine has been the same for a long time now, but with the last few weeks, shovelling snow has been a change of pace.
We've had a lot of snow here too and it's been absolutely freezing, but it got warmer over the weekend and now nearly all the snow has melted. Nice that it's not so cold, less nice that there's no more snow to brighten up the dark nights.

Most hated fanfic tropes

Breaks my heart, hearing stories like that. I know a lot of people still have those experiences, but I realise how lucky I am to have grown up in a time and a place where exploring one's sexuality was less taboo, even if I've experienced some prejudice too.
