I opened my laptop, logged onto Skype, and found Leigh in my list of contacts. It didn’t take her long to answer. ‘Hey, girl!’ she said, smiling face filling my screen. ‘How have you been? I feel like we haven’t talked in forever!’ ‘Yeah, me too.’ I smiled back. ‘I’ve been okay. School’s been a bit stressful. Not the schoolwork, more like there’s been a lot going on with my friends and stuff.’ ‘Ooh, like what?’ I bit my lip. ‘Well, you know Michael?’ ‘Mhm?’ ‘Well . . . rememb
  2. It's yummy! It's really good with meat dishes. I eat it with meatballs, spread it on top of paté, and it tastes awesome with bacon. I love gooseberries.
  3. Tesla’s under the blanket next to me, pretending she doesn’t know that my toes are my toes, lol! So she’s hunting.
  4. I always knew where meat came from, but the best story I've ever heard was about my sister-in-law. When she was 3 her mum took her to see Bambi. They'd revived it in the cinema just then. They got to the bit where Bambi's mother dies, and my SIL says, really loudly, 'Mum? What's gonna happen to Bambi's mother?' And because her mother isn't the type to lie to children, she replies, 'Well, the hunter is probably going to take her home and skin her and turn her into food for people to eat.' My SIL considers this for about a minute before she says, really loudly again, 'Mum? I like that kind of meat.' Enjoy your meal.
  5. OMG! People are idiots, seriously... Humanely my ass...
  6. They go well in all kinds of meat dishes. Game in particular, the flavours enhance each other really well.
  7. That's very possible. I know you can get lingonberry jam from there, too. It's how I got mine when I lived in the UK for a year. Can't live without lingonberry jam, I eat it with everything.
  8. The Sami people herd reindeer as their main source of food and now income. I'd much rather eat reindeer, moose, and other game than beef, pork, or chicken any day. They've lived far better lives.
  9. Let me know of you do and you want a recipe. Don't know if you can get hold of juniper berries, but it's good without, too.
  10. That sounds like a book I would like, too.
  11. Ooh, hot chocolate... Wish we weren't nearly out of milk now... Will have to make do with tea.
  12. It's super tasty. I make a stew, with thinly sliced reindeer (the way they do it is they let me meat freeze and then they slice it off real thin), forest mushrooms, dried juniper berries, and fresh goat's cheese and/or cream. I also tend to put some carrots and onion in there, maybe a bayleaf or two while it cooks. Serve with boiled potatoes and lingonberry jam. Based off of a traditional dish of the Sami people.
  13. Punishing children, be it physically or verbally, is harmful and doesn't work. I've had the discussion too many times, about beating one's children... People I know who think that's okay, saying, 'I was beaten as a child and I turned out okay.' No. If you think it's okay to beat children, you most decidedly did not turn out okay.
  14. I think that's very true, Mac.
  15. I only eat reindeer.
  16. Another sweet chapter. Thank you. I just love these two! I've been meaning to ask, when about is this story meant to be set? Either way, it's terrific.
  17. Weather's being crazy all over the place, it seems. Shifts quickly.
  18. It's a really important distinction, I think; one that's true for everything from childcare to criminal justice. Punishing people, as it turns out, doesn't actually work very well, if your goal (as I believe it should be) is to correct unwanted behaviour and teach people to be better.
  19. I really do. As with everything else I'm bad at practice, though. And even when I've gotten somewhere, suddenly I get an episode and it all unravels. Working on it, though. That's kind of sad, but beautiful at the same time, I think. Very poetic, in either case. Would make for a lovely poem.
  20. It's this place nearby where they do an afternoon tea thing once a year. Some folks from my choir decided it might be a nice thing to do together. Only 8 of us actually signed up, but it was still really nice.
  21. Wild animals always decide what I eat.
  22. Wild animals are much nicer, lol
  23. Nice fluffy kittens. I've never dreamt of evil kittens.
