Ooh la la! George in Paris. He is everything the French should hate: English and aristocracy. However, I'm sure he will fare well. There are so many characters and potential story lines, I can't wait to see what happens next.

Great chapter as always. I really feel the building tension and sense of impending doom. I feel I want to read the next few chapters from behind the sofa. Instead, I'll make sure I'm on my own with a big box of hankies. I remember where 9.11 as if it were yesterday, and I'm a Brit. Must be so much more painful for you as Americans. Thanks again for tackling such an emotional period of recent history. P.S Please don't kill off JP! Jinty x

Hi Mark, Tried to reply to your comment about Chartley in my review. Did you kill him off? Thought he went off to China with John Company in chapter 45. Did he succumb to an Opium addiction? If I missed that then I promise to dye my hair blonde as I seem to have gone dizzy. If, as I suspect, you are teasing me...ignore my opium ref. I don't want Chartley to 'do a Jeff'. Don't think my poor heart would stand it.

I agree with Rjo. Poor George! I am loving these books. Even more so than CPA, if that's not swearing. I love the sense of realism. I keep having to look up places or battles to follow George better. You have woven him so well into the fabric of history. Although I don't believe in giving characters an easy time, poor George has been hit rather hard. My only personal request is for his HEA to be with Chartley, pretty please, sugar cherries and sprinkles? Thanks again Mark for your superb writing.

I started the series last week and have not put my Kindle down since I started. I have just caught up to the end of 9.11. Highlights were JP and Steff finally getting together. Lowlight was Jeff's drug problem and finding out Sam was there when he killed himself. However, as I think that the mark of a good writer is that they make you think, that event haunted my thoughts and made me uncomfortable for days. I know feel like the viewers at the end of The Truman Show who had to return to normality. I have been completely immersed in JP's world all week. I look forward to what comes next. Jinty x
