I hate that parents treat their kids so conditionally. The best thing parents can do is give kids a safe environment to become who they are meant to be and not who parents think they should be. Thanks for the thought provoking work.
The beautiful thing about this wonderful family is how they error on the side of kindness and generosity. Matt wants to help Cole and JP works his magic and Cole is helped. Now the flip side is those that threaten the family have limited life expectancies , but no family is perfect.
Wade (dreamy sigh) you're almost as awesome as JP and Stef. I must give Mark accolades for giving Wade the funniest line in the whole book:
“Dude, all the guys kept saying you had a really big mouth. How was I supposed to know they weren't talking about you not being able to keep secrets?”
Thanks.
Brilliant craft seamlessly including major events like Shepard's killing into the overall story and making it feel so true. My compliments to you Mark although I cried through most of the chapter.
Any chapter with Danfield is a good chapter. As for Cody, I can't blame him for Brian's whackadoodleness, Brian owns his "stuff" and Cody is clearly not ready to commit to anyone despite the love he feels for Matt. Excellent writing, thanks.
I love how Matt's goal isn't do well in school but catch a glimpse of Cole's manhood . I really want to believe Brian, despite having foreknowledge of the future.
Thanks.
