    Chapter 13

I'll miss these new friends since we can't go back there until the Great Menace is gone...lets hope Gilden and the rest will still be around to welcome our 'Security Team'. I am left wondering about Cally's parents...are they around, and what would they think of their son's having a boyfriend? I'd like to think they'd be accepting, but judging from my own experience, I know this isn't always the case. My father discovered my 'secret' about a month before we sold our house and I moved into Columbus, and he never spoke to me after that and died thirteen years later. My mother asked about me some five years later and said she'd love me no matter what as I was her 'baby', but I kept quiet after my father's rejection, and I wasn't seeing anyone at the time to concern her with it. The ironic thing about this was that she met my s.o. three years later, not knowing who he was, and disliked him on sheer principle alone, so I never confirmed it as we were still together when she died in 2007. Well, enough of that...a million doors, eh? Somebody has a lot of writing to do!

    Chapter 2

I must be slipping as I thought the frozen world was inaccessible with the transfer point being now exposed to vacuum? Ah, Mike and I have one thing in common now--we share a fear of large and deep expanses of water! I don't mind contemplating and viewing them, just don't ask me to go into one beyond wading depth. If I remember right, I fell into a neighbor's pool as a little kid and had to be hauled out, and never went back. I've been boating some as a teen, and even went on my Senior class canoe trip, but wore a life jacket in case some jokers tipped us over...of course they did, and that was my last experience with boating mainly because we sold ours shortly after. I don't like the idea of world-sized cities, even when things are running smoothly...I need some contact with nature nearby.

    Heated Days

There are some pretty savvy heads in D'gar and S'brin's wing...lets hope this gets straightened out fairly quickly. Hmm, maybe D'gar will have a new brother or sister before too long....

    Chapter 1

This is a pretty ominous title for a new Armenti Adventur...but I'm sure it will more than meet our esteemed author's standards for style, wit and drama. I can't wait to see where we go in this one!
  5. It's clear that dragons only enhance the emotions of their riders and that envy and selfishness are hallmarks even on Pern. The other greens clearly want what S'brin and D'gar have, and can't abide it being successful for them if they can't find it themselves, hence.... I hope our estranged couple will reunite quickly, S'brin to gain some maturity and D'gar to begin exerting some of his own wishes in the relationship rather than just letting his weyrmate slide due to it being the 'dragonrider way'. More please, Mawgrim!
  6. It is in moments such as these where love is at it's most poignant, when the object of that love is also in physical need of our own actions to regain full health.... Be it parent or lover, the comfort is the same for the recipient, whose only concern at the time is to try to forget their ills and be happy once more. I think the worst time I had as a child was in either 2nd or 3rd Grade when I missed almost a month of school...I don't remember what it was...measles or chicken pox, but I do remember being wiped down with alcohol to bring my temperature down, and spending hours with my Mom fretting over me while all I wanted was to feel better and be able to go out and play in our yard with my dog Duchess... Time for memories long past...it's either a curse or a blessing depending on what those memories are...this one was a tender one to cherish, my dear G-Man!
  7. I'm just amazed at the insights you give us in even the most prosaic things...hands? How often do we take a conscious look at them unless we've injured one somehow? Mine remain relatively the same as in years past though the joints may ache some and there's a scar at the base of my thumb on the left one near the base that resulted in the loss of some feeling in that digit above that point; blame it on the lid of a discarded cat food tin when I went to push the trash down a bit to slip one last item in.... Despite current limitations on other parts of my sensory apparatus, the hands still provide me with good feelings and the means to communicate my thought to others on the internet, so I'm content with them for now. :)

    The Hunt is On

I really want to see more of this story, but I realize the end is pretty close now.... A book detailing D'gar's and H'rek's life together later, perhaps even to the end of the Pass would be awesome. At least give him some weyrlings to train so we can imagine how good he'll do!
  9. I'm going to miss these guys...just when their adventure truly begins into a bright future, we come to the finale. Still, all the loose ends are hogtied, and the judges give the performance the highest marks and we move on to the Champions Ring. Kudos and massive hugs my dear G-Man! xoxoxoxoxo
  10. Yeah, the messy bits can be a mood killer, and I was a bit surprised to see that there had been a 'solution' for it back then...not sure why though as problems always find fixes in every era. Heck, even the ancient Egyptians had birth control, but I think for them it was the odor of the methods used that were the main reasons for its efficacy! :) I'm going to miss these guys, which is something that also surprises me as Westerns aren't necessarily my favorite theme, but once again you've worked your magic and won me over despite my foolish notions. A story by you is always a pleaser without fail as experience has shown every time. Yep, better be one hell of an epilogue or three, my dear! Ha, worked in another exclamation point, and not a dang thing y'all can do 'bout it.... xoxoxoxoxoxo

    The Full Story

Dang, I hate it's been nearly fifty years since I read the first Pern books and I get teasing memories of what will happen at Southern, but can't remember specifics! I'm going to miss these guys when the current story winds up, but hope there will be another one coming soon. D'gar and H'rek are such engaging characters that I'd hate to not find out what their future holds for them and their charges....
  12. I'm glad they got the parcels without any real difficulties, and Morker is just that...a real corker! Shouldn't the first priority now be some sort of barn for the hay and horses? The house can be thrown up quickly as a sod structure or perhaps built into a hillside for the first winter.... Makes me think to what my father's family went through getting their farm started in the 1840s-50s in north central Ohio...not wilderness then, but much land was still uncleared and towns were little more than a few houses when they existed at all. I can imagine his thoughts coming from a settled country like central Germany. Hmm, maybe I feel a short coming on, as one of mine deals with the family at the start of WWI....

    Half the Story

Dang, I hate finding out when a beloved story is ending soon. There has to be a sequel...I want F'drun to get his just desserts, and Kylara too. I can't remember just how she turned out in the canon, but I hope D'gar had a part in it somehow. As it's hard for me to keep track of the queue, could you send me a note when the next Pern story begins?

    The Story

I read this elsewhere in easily digestible portions as I got to it late and didn't see it in the queue anymore, so here's my belated reaction: Absolutely amazing and so skwishy! I love Twombley and it was great to see Horace Wingspanner again, though I miss his ancient Woody--car, that is! :) Okay, I can wait on more of this band of boys so long as you give us more adventures through Doors or into some other twilit areas to explore...just please, no little boys sending everybody to the cornfield...I much prefer him as Will Robinson. On a side note, I abhorred the Flintstones, just as I did the Munsters; the Jetsons and the Addams clan ruled the world in the 60s and 70s when I was growing up. My friend Kat always calls me Bubulah like Morticia did Gomez because I had a pinstripe suit just like his and thick glasses, and the same quirky sense of reality that clan shared. I didn't care for the animated Addams show, or the later movies except for the first Raoul Julia one. Did you know they had a 70s color movie based on the original series? Totally horrible! Eager for more fireworks during the Summer....
  15. At last Coy and Boone have experienced the joys of uniting their souls on a physical plane to match that of their already conjoined spirits. I'm impressed by the period feel of the scene where others might have resorted to more modern tropes to share their joy with us. Nary a four letter word or capitalized moans or grunts in sight...wonderful! You've new stoked my curiosity--it wasn't a surprise to see both men are uncircumcised as neither is Jewish, but was that strictly a Jewish practiced in those days? Granted I had little experience as a teen in seeing other guys, but I'm fairly sure almost everyone was in my area in the mid 70s, and as an adult I never really encountered a guy who was 'uncut'. Perhaps that was just the way guys were done then in the US, as I hear it was far more common in Europe? Wonder if Wikipedia could enlighten me? :)

Okay, D'Gar would have little chance to meet Fandarel, but isn't the Harper Hall located at Fort? Since he went to the Gather there shortly after arriving in the present Pass, I'd have thought he might have seen more harpers... Not a criticism at all, just wondering as I love your stories of these events! Now I'm wondering if the two boys rescued from threadfall after being kicked out by their fathers might Impress at the next Benden hatching?

I remember that interfering in another weyr's affairs happened in the series--didn't they have to replace High Reaches Leader at one point? So, even if T'bor isn't great, he's on his own turf, so the others can only offer advice if asked. One thing, Mawgrim, we haven't heard of Robinton or the Smithcrafthall master yet... :)
  18. Huzzah! The battle cry of freedom is heard at last for our brave boys.... Nice properties they've found, and the plan should divert any suspicions just as Coy said, plus they get a free apple orchard too. I wonder if they'll have enough time to get a cabin built before winter sets in--lots of trees, but I think a two-man saw might work better at felling them than axes. Poor Blue, so maligned, but he's a vital part of the family they couldn't bear to part with. When my greatgreatgrandfather began his farm in north central Ohio back around 1845, he got a plot of 55 acres, and traded it for another one that he liked more, then gradually added to it until he had over 150. By 1880 he had the best farm in the county and another house in the nearby town of Cardington. Not bad for a 27 year old immigrant from Germany who arrived alone and had seven children by the time he died in 1883. Eager for more, my dear G-Man! xoxoxoxo
  19. Oh, Matthias has appeared before, first as someone Ernst and Jakob knew at university around 2100, and later he seems to have known Hartmann before the loss of Star-Seeker I...used to be famous as a holo-porn actor before going into legit films. Just need to go back a few chapters to find him. :)
  20. What, you want more of this lunacy? Okay, I'll see what I can do!
  21. I remember our tree growing up--always a live tree seven feet or so high, tinsel, old glass ornaments and the old large bulb red, blue green white and amber lights.... Later on, my sisters did themed trees that just seemed too artsy for me, so when I got my own place, I did a tree like the ones I grew up with, often many of the same ornaments, some garland, and lights that were a bit smaller, but still real bulbs. Only one year did I try real holiday candles in silver clips, but they were too much of a hassle to light and then blow out. Sigh...now that it's just me and one friend who would see my tree, and with my vision problems, I've given up the practice. Thank goodness for the old animated specials like the Grinch, Charlie Brown and Rudolph...and the great movies like Christmas Carol with Alistair Sim, and the newer 'classic' Christmas Story. Now if I could just find digital versions of my two favorite old Christmas organ and chimes albums...those played every year for as long as I could remember, and I have them still.
  22. Sounds like an interesting place...and I like the sawmill owner, but the land agent could be a bit shifty if their speculations are right. Could they be walking into a new bit of trouble if they interfere even accidentally with others plans? These two will make a formidable team with their blend of canny observations and practical knowledge other settlers might not have. Sigh...a week to go. Any chance of an early Christmas present, my dear?

    Close Calls

My only thought must be that the dragon didn't go between because the rider was still alive, but now will he follow his dragon into oblivion, or linger on alone? I don't understand how some dragonfolk can keep petty grudges going in the face of such dire losses as we just witnessed...
  24. Plenty of cliffs on Luna to hang from, and the wonderfully low gravity makes it so easy...still, I'll do my best, my friend! Started 61 of Jay tonight, but that will be a longer visit, but I'm hoping it might show up before too long...perhaps not like a Visit From St. Nicholas, but who knows?
  25. Yes, what will the two find on Farside? Are these truly relatives of Harman's, or a ruse to get him there? At least this is a shorter read than trying to piece things together for my other boys in Ohio...that's coming up next.
