Awww... the poor Priest. Could you imagine Lucinius in the Senate. They would chew him up then spit him out for his views on slavery alone. Plus, he would be too popular with the general public. No. Stay away. You're happy where you are and doing exceptionally well.

I know they need to make a living, but it seems more than just the Olive Oil vendor is ripping people off. Cheese that tastes like whey? If I was Lucinius' Grandfather, I would be annoyed if I planned to leave someone something and they had already agreed to give it away before they even received it. He should just tell his Grandfather he does not want/need it. Then at least he can change his Will...and possibly leave it to Deacon? Or is that a stretch too far for Roman Society?

Getting a good rep for his produce eh. That must really annoy his Father. The Baker must feel really lucky the day he agreed to buy his first lot of goods from Lucinius. Now he gets first dibs on everything and is doing well from it.

Bloody shysters at the Market with their Olive Oil. I hope Lucinius confronts them about it. I love how they used the whole Olive.

An Olive Press will be way cool. Olive Oil is so popular now. I can only imagine it being even more popular back then.

SD has lost one Son and needs to be careful about the other. What an idiot. However, I can't see Duccius totally going against his Father or causing any major waves with him.

I can't believe I am saying this, truly. In SD's defense, slavery is the norm in their society. Still, he doesn't have to be a male-genitalia-that-rhymes-with-trick about it.

A full Family Gathering. That is way cool for Lucinius and his Household. His Father is not being out-going but then he is not being obviously/directly rude. Is it sad that that is progress?

Its a pity Lucinius and Co. don't have their own shop in Rome. Somewhere where they directly sell, any produce from the Villa, to the Public. Then Dante and a few others would have a reason to stay in Rome if they want. Also, just because I can see the last sentence in the above comment response, who is Lucinius really?

The fruit platter at the end sounds good. Never really got into figs. We used to have a fig tree when I was younger. Never really got 'raided' like we raided the other fruit tress and the grape vines. They were okay, just not OMG yummy.

Sharing in the gains of their hard work with the Men/Brothers says alot about Lucinius. Everything he does with/for them says alot about Lucinius. I could be with a person like Lucinius. I would love to work/live at the Villa with him and his Men/Brothers. I don't know who currently does but I would love to be the person who cleans the Villa, does the laundry & gives the haircuts. Damn. I suppose I'd have to learn how to sew, knit and do First Aid.

Don't you just want to give Lucinius a big hug, with a, 'Well done' accompanied by a pat on the back. His Men/Brothers are going to be so loyal and hard-working.

They don't quite realise it yet, but these soon to be Free Men have landed (with a thud) on their feet. I cannot even imagine the life of a slave. And what I can imagine is just horrendous.

Firstly, I didn't realise I had already commented on this story as much as I had so catching up on my comments isn't going to be as long. I am glad that Lucinius has Apollo on his side as well. Apollo is obviously well pleased.

Now on to Rome. Comments for the whole thing. Eek. FYI - we are on lockdown so have the time for catch-ups. Have just been so busy the last few, maybe three, weeks.

To be honest (and just between you and me) I have already read part 2. I read it awhile ago when I didn't realise there was a Part 1. I recognised some of the names, but especially Harlan. But, lucky me gets to re-read it. Especially as there are Parts 3 and 4 too.
