  1. That's a good point. Why would Clay be crying? The next chapter is posted and thanks for the lovely words and support.
  2. Perhaps you're right. We'll see because Ben isn't out of the woods yet. You're absolutely right about poor Twyla. She will have to deal with the aftermath of her brother's death knowing a friend killed him. She will also have to deal with a mess of a mother. It's a sad story, which befits the title. Thanks for your comments.
  3. Salix Babylonica – 15 – Funeral for a Friend Let’s up and leave the weeping to the willow tree And pour our tears in the sea - Owl City - In Loving Memory of Steven Smith – born February 4, 1977, died March 21, 2018 Steven W. Smith 41, of St. Louis Park, died of complications from cancer treatments. Steven was a brave man who battled cancer for three years, and showed how courage gives meaning to life. He is survived by his wife, Twyla, his children Logan and S
  4. Salix Babylonica – 7:23 pm Psalm 137: “By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion. We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.” Rush looked up at the clock again as Clay returned with a box containing two cups of coffee in one hand and a white bag with greasy spots in the other. He handed the detective the bag and sat down next to him. “Any word yet?” he asked. “Nothing new. Ben is in recovery right now. The
  5. Yes, someone is dying. Now, let's get to the big reveal in the case. I hope you like it. I've had a blast with it. Thanks for the support!!!
  6. He made a really bad mistake. Thanks for your support!
  7. I love this!!! I'm glad this engaged you so. Thank you both!!
  8. The last of the secrets will be revealed next. There is a back story which will explain all the parts. Thanks so much for the comment and for the support!!
  9. Those aren't popping bags. Ben was foolhardy to go off on his own. During a murder investigation, it's standard procedure for anyone questioning witnesses to have a second with them. This is true when it's investigators as well as police. You never know what you'll find. In this case, Ben tripped the trigger of a very tightly wound person who blew up on him. We'll see what happened next. Thanks for the wonderful comments and support!
  10. We're finishing it up this week. There will be no other cliff hangers!! I'm so glad you're enjoying the story.
  11. Salix Babylonica 13 – 1:53 PM Willow trees are kind, Dear God. They will not bear a body on their limbs. Alice Dunbar Nelson Rush and Hammond stepped up to the bagged heater and the detective took a key ring from his pocket. He fit it into the padlock adjoining two ends of a cable that was wrapped around the tarp. “What are you thinking?” Hammond asked as he started unraveling the binding on the plasticized canvas. “I’m thinking this shard of plastic looks
  12. This is all happening in a single day. The boys probably have their ringers turned off for sleuthing. The situation is incredibly dangerous, but I'm not sure any of them realize just how bad it is. The next chapter will bring more clarity and the action will begin to unfold. Thanks for the insightful comments and ideas. It's much appreciated.
  13. I believe Clay and Carl are planning on 'helping'. In the meantime, the guys still need to figure out who did it. That text hasn't been read by anyone yet. Thanks for the wonderful support. I hope you enjoy the rest of the story.
  14. Thanks for the support and kind words. It certainly appears that Nats is involved. But, the detectives still haven't solved the case. That's coming up in the next chapter. Get ready for some twists and turns. I appreciate the great comments!!
  15. The answers to those questions are coming up in chapter 14. It will become very clear. Remember, his body was very decomposed so it wasn't hard to move. You will get answers very soon, but first we need the guys to solve the mystery. Shhhh!!! They don't know yet. Thanks for reading and for such interesting comments. I love it!!!
  16. Clay is like most family members who love, they care. He’s inexperienced, but wants to help. The next chapter tells more. Somebody had a reason to silence them, but why? Thanks for the intriguing analysis. Very helpful.
  17. Thanks so much. Yes, Nats and Jake's dad are certainly suspicious. The next chapter reveals the killer, and Clay and Carl's game plan. Thanks for commenting and reading!!!
  18. Yeah, Nats story isn't quite as tight as it could be. There is a definite possible link between Wylie and Nats. Clay and Carl are playing a dangerous game. This is a double murder, but they are teenagers. There is so much they don't think can happen to them. Great job with the analysis and thanks for the comments. Much appreciated!
  19. Very good!!! You are just about there and you're so close, as we all are. The story is coming to a close. Thanks for the awesome and insightful comments!
  20. Salix Babylonica - 12 – 11:31 am The gay bunting erects his white crest, and gives utterance to the joy he feels in the presence of his brooding mate; the willow grouse on the rock crows his challenge aloud; each floweret, chilled by the night air, expands its pure petals; the gentle breeze shakes from the blades of grass the heavy dewdrops. John James Audubon Ben walked into the house calling out Clay’s name. There was no answer, so he hung up his coat and carried his b
  21. Very good. You are working some things out quite well. Cindy didn't, and she's just the kind of nosey person who would suss out something like that. I think you're right about the killer. It does appear things aren't as they are presented. Not exactly. Great job and thanks for the insightful comments. I appreciate your encouragement.
  22. Thanks! I'm glad you're still hooked. Lots more coming up. The next chapter is The Last Day and we will see things moving quickly toward a resolution. I appreciate the kind words and attention.
  23. Nobody is sure whether Wylie is gay or straight or a little of both. It's certainly possible Eddie was with someone else. It could have been Steve. Or, it could have been someone else. Oh, Clay is going to help with the case. That's a given, I think, considering the teen's attitude toward being part of the family. Don't you think? Thanks for the awesome comments and you are getting there, I think!
  24. Salix Babylonica 11 - The Last Day The grounds of the place were dominated by several large, old willow trees that towered over the surrounding stone wall and swayed soundlessly in the wind like lost souls. Haruki Murakami “Would you get that?” Carl barked, glancing over at Clay with an annoyed, bitchy look. “We don’t answer the land line,” Clay said, smirking at Carl’s struggles. The smaller teen always had trouble getting the dragon to fly away from the entrance of
  25. I'm usually inspired by watching someone and creating a story about them. It usually takes several different other things to come together as a coherent whole, but my plots are very character-driven. Porcupines came from watching a security guard that looked very lonely at his post. The Art of Being Gay came from a person at my bar who was telling a story, and I filled in the cracks and he became the main character. Button was inspired by two fathers and a little boy on their way to the Pride parade. My detective, Rush, is the culmination of my wondering about the first boy I ever kissed. This is interesting.
