    The Thorpedo

Restricted to whom? Trying to figure out how I made the cut. 😀

    The Thorpedo

Will does seem to be a magnet for hot closeted guys.

    Olympics

Poor JP, doomed to be embarrassed in public by his uncouth relatives.

    New Uniforms

This was a delightful interlude, the sort that it usually precedes some serious drama. I'm sure between St. Vincent's arrival and Calvert's appointment at the Palace, we'll get plenty of it before too long.

    Recovery

Amelia may have her own motives but, for the King and Queen, inviting Calvert to stay at the palace is more an act of charity to one of the King's officers than any particular desire to keep company with him.

    Recovery

So, Calvert has a week's reprieve from Amelia and the palace. He may need that time to brush up his survival social skills.
  7. I love Travis's goofball sense of humor. I don't know how he comes up with these elaborate scenarios. JJ's secret power struggle with the staff at his therapist's office is hilarious. I wonder if the staff realize they're in this ongoing battle or if it's all in his head. Haha.
  8. Things are definitely going smoothly for Granger. A solid plan is established for the protection of the King, he is bonding with his crew, Winkler got a night off, and even Calvert's idiotic attempt to climb to the quarterdeck had a fortuitous outcome. The drunken Master might have to be dealt with but otherwise, to all appearances, we're still on track for a nice, peaceful book. It's even in the title.
  9. Well, I personally prefer a good whisk(e)y. 🙂 You're in Australia, right? Probably the best gin I ever had was Tasmanian sheep's whey gin. Worth checking out if you haven't already.
  10. The quinine in tonic fluoresces blue under blacklight. The gin is actually irrelevant.
  11. Don't diss the maid, JJ. Lovers will come and go, but Jacinta will always be there for you. At least until she's too old to be of service and has to be pensioned off (by the family's HR department). I do love how JJ bonds with the domestic staff in his self-absorbed way. As I recall, he was the one who facilitated Rosa's move to Boston after he figured out she was lonely in Malibu. He even found her a Catholic church. Of course, it was all about making his own life more comfortable.
  12. JJ does really go for those hot guys with noble titles. It's also hilarious how differently Will and JJ felt about Kris's signature moves. Fortunately JJ is the one who appreciated them. 😀
  13. I expect this will be a very dull book with everything going according to plan.

    First Date

Mark, JJ with all his foibles is without a doubt the funniest of your characters. Haters gonna hate. Don't change a thing.

    Calvert Escapes

Well, that was one of the more dramatic of the minor battles Granger has faced at sea, and without even clearing the decks (other than of most of the Royal Family). Calvert does seem to lead a charmed life, even if he's apparently going to hell eventually.

    K-Kris

    Exactly! They're perfect together.

We learned in The Gap Year that the family has a very active HR department that deals with all employees. I expect their benefits package is pretty robust. Edit: I'm not sure why straight teeth would be more important to a cook than anyone else.

I think JJ and Jacinta may be the real OTP of this series. Their interactions are priceless and you just know they'll be together forever and always have each other's backs.

As long as the bus doesn't actually kill him. JJ is your funniest character. Killing him off would be a lot less funny.

I really hope you didn't make that promise. As dysfunctional as JJ is, he doesn't deserve that sort of indignity.

    HMS Endymion

I completely missed the Jane Austen connection. I've gotten better at checking whether various characters were historical but I'm clearly not doing it enough. My new motto is "Never assume Mark made something up when he could have borrowed it from history."

Regardless of what the watch cost, the fact that he considers it an apology rather than a graduation present is just as typical of JJ. Because JP and Stef would no doubt have given him some crappy cheap watch if they'd been able to make it to the ceremony.

    HMS Endymion

So, Granger has new orders, a temporary new ship, and a new crew with some familiar faces mixed in. Patrolling the coast of Weymouth doesn't sound very exciting but no doubt something interesting will turn up (as it inevitably does when Granger is around).

Is this really your first of Mark's stories? If it is, you may want to consider reading the earlier CAP ones first as they provide a very rich backstory. At a minimum, I'd recommend starting with The Gap Year which immediately precedes this book as the plotlines are tied very closely so far.

Poor JJ. It's a cold, hard cocoon in which he lives.
