    Dinner Party

We're having twins, we're having twins, we're having twins... LOL

    Arrival

    Glad you enjoyed it, Albert.

    Key West

This chapter's a transition between Mexico and being back in Washington. CJ and Owen's plans need to be reworked since they left Mexico City earlier than expected. Short-term goals change, but the brass ring's still out there.

LOL Youngster? This is one CJ trip I'm extremely jealous of. Considering I left Cuba at 8 and never lived in Havana, I'd love to visit.

A little more sightseeing in the next chapter and a chance to explore who Camilo is a bit more. Like the rest of us, he knows a lot about CJ from social media and the press, but we know nothing about the Cuban yet.

Thanks. I'm glad the non-linear storytelling worked. Because CJ's sightseeing is solo, we would have ended with a large chunk of narration at the beginning and lots of dialogue in the second half of the day. By mixing up the order, I was able to incorporate the history and descriptions without it all being too dry.

Thanks. The extra Friday was a bonus for the great reception the first chapter received. Or a birthday present.

Thank you! As with all the Summer of '22, stories, Luz de Castilla serves as a stepping stone for CJ and Owen's future. Some of the new characters will return in future installments. Cuba was fun to write although it's all based on reading and recollections of Old San Juan in Puerto Rico. Similar architecture and layout.
  9. I enjoyed writing this one. Tried a few different things (like having a douche be part of the entire story) for the first time, and they apparently worked. In honor of Horthman, I created another idiot in a subsequent story and readers are comparing them. Although the story continues, I tried to wrap as many open threads as possible in the Epilogue. A bunch of the characters introduced in this story will show up again.
  10. Okay, I admit the ending was a cliffhanger. On purpose. LOL It's fun to leave readers wondering what's going on now and then.
  11. They grow so fast. LOL BTW, after CDMX, you should read the spinoffs before tackling the Summer of '22 short stories.

    Animal Party

I swear I can't introduce gay, male characters without people trying to match them up. LOL We'll see those two at another event soon enough.

    Animal Party

The reporter asked a question about the frequency of Owen seeing his family, and based on the previous lines of dialogue, we can figure out he's referring to the Listons in Australia. When Owen claims his family is CJ and Liebe, Pam would feel pushed to the side. Owen's still her baby, but he no longer considers her a primary family member. That demotion had to rankle.
  14. The dial may have been accidentally moved as Owen suggests, or someone could have been trying to get in it as you mention. The problem's that it's not something they can easily determine. I bet you CJ's going to be chacking that safe daily from now on.
  15. Thanks, ALbert

    The Fuse

Teen hormones and a relative who's a bad influence let Jose-Maria to toss away someone he should have tried to remain close to. Let's see what happens to him.

There's some of the same going on in Key West. Hemingway's known worldwide and it's a nice marketing ploy. Papa lived in a hotel for a bit and I thought about having the guys stay there but it's been closed for "remodeling" for a while.

Aside from whatever else CJ has brought to my life in the past few years, interacting with so many interesting people from all over is one of the best benefits. I'm glad I can still hold your interest after all this time; I try to keep the stories fresh, exposing CJ and Owen to new circumstances while keeping the basics the same.

Thank you! How did you like me poking fun at the grapefruit juice daiquiri? That made me think of you. And how did you like working as a driver for that crew? LOL I imagined Camilo "interviewing" CJ to determine his suitability for whatever the Cuban government wants. He did it remotely in the morning and directly in the afternoon. Lots more background in the next 2 chapters. Would he jump in bed with CJ and/or Owen? I'd like to think so, but I don't see it as his goal. It's all part of deciding whether they have chosen the right person. Maybe I'll share a picture of Camilo next week. Shirtless.

Thank you. I strive to show their relationship without resorting to the constant talking about emotions and lovey-dovey crap internet stories thrive on. Just not my style. With CJ as the instigator, and Owen as a willing accomplice, those two can conquer it all. That's what I like to portray.

While researching for this story, I lost myself in Cuban colonial history. Names and places I'd heard as a little kid but had slipped my mind. I figured everyone would know the Castros and Cienfuegos, so I barely mentioned them. The stories of Jose Marti, Maximo Gomes, Carlos Manuel de Cespedes, and others were fascinating although a bit too much detail to include. Did you know both Marti and Castro did a lot of their planning in Florida? The Tampa Cuban community was their base.

I expect all of them on my couch office when we start casting CJ - The Movie

Thanks, Dave. I sometimes struggle between too much and too little detail, but I figure if anyone wants to know more about a particular place, Mr. Google will provide assistance.
