Ahhh we have slightly different definitions here. Bullying is a form of endearment in English schools. But I think there are levels of it. Mr. Alan Simms is an example of one of those teachers that never quite grew out of the bullied kid in school, and some kids can smell that on a teacher. Mr. Weatherby knows how to get boys like Max in line.

  3. Oh man, I can see that going over like a lead balloon.

    Chapter 1

Max's dialogue, when it came out, had that 11 year old going on 40 thing. So rather than rewriting, I leaned into it heavily. I was, I fear, a bit of a Max. Far too clever for my own good, and my boyfriend Matt, completely undid me every time. It was... amusing when the teachers cottoned on and started ensuring we had class together. He used to keep me in line. I had no clue at the time, but looking back on it now, it's clear as day what they were doing. Ahh Matt, goofy, utterly unimpressed with my antics. I'd brag, he'd ignore me. I'd strut, he'd tell me to sit down. I'd get annoyed with teachers who couldn't spell, he'd call me a pedant, and demand I check the grammar of his homework... He had me completely under control.

My day off, enjoy something fun. Thanks to @drpaladin who sat up with me during my insomnia nights while I wrote this. ❤️
  8. Part Three: The Emergency Meeting "What. Was. That." Billy's voice was a mix of horror and barely contained glee as Max stumbled back to the bench, his face the colour of a ripe tomato. "That was a tactical retreat," Max said, his voice trembling. "I was regrouping." "You were gibbering," Wesley said flatly. "You were actually gibbering. I've never heard you gibber before. It was... unnerving." "I don't gibber. I'm a master of linguistic expression. I was engagin
  9. Part One: The Terror of the Lower Fourth The headmaster's office smelled of old leather, furniture polish, and the faint desperation of a man who had seen too many schoolboys in his lifetime. Mr. Weatherby, a man whose jowls seemed to have their own gravitational pull and whose waistcoat strained valiantly against the forces of gravity and good nutrition, sat behind his imposing oak desk and regarded the weeping figure before him with a mixture of sympathy and profound exhaustion.
  10. Maximilian Hawthorn is eleven years old, terrifyingly clever, and the undisputed master of his school. He runs a black-market homework empire, negotiates better lunch privileges than the prefects, and has reduced his form teacher to tears more times than anyone can count. Then he notices Gabriel —quiet, unimpressed, and immune to Max's schemes. His carefully constructed world begins to unravel as he discovers that some things can't be outsmarted, some people refuse to be impressed, and sometimes the best strategy is no strategy at all. Crushes, chaos, and the theatre kids who bring even the most arrogant boys to their knees.

  13. They're two total dorks, who haven't figured out what every one else already knows.
  14. Tom is objectively wrong in most of what he thinks.
  15. Warren is the Mighty Fuzzy Alpha, hear him roar.
  16. It was heavilly implied in the chapter where Caleb remembered being driven home by Archer. I merely confirmed when another spotted it.
  17. Just something light and fluffy. I needed a fluffy Merrickville story. It's four chapters, while I finish up some other projects to release.
  18. 01 I am not some quirky character, stuffed into the pages so that someone can win an award. I am not here to delight a person like some manic pixie dream boy. I have agency, I evolve, and I grow. My life does not revolve around one single person, and I am certainly not here to make them have a revelation or some great turning point in their tragic, suburban life. Screw mix-tapes. Screw dream journals. And absolutely screw standing out in the pouring rain in an empty parking lot at
  19. When Tom’s life hits rock bottom—stuck in a dead-end town, dumped for his sister, and working graveyards at a 7/11—the last thing he expects is his pathetic best friend Warren to rob him with a neon water pistol. What follows is a hilarious, achingly vulnerable journey of two disaster boys fumbling their way toward love, one badly timed confession and life-sized Warhammer statue at a time.
