I also enjoy Jacob's utter adoration of Tommy when he skates, like a reverence. It is such a radically different way of skating from Hockey. Brute force and power vs grace and finesse. Sorry watching old Olympics vids on Youtube. I don't go out for sports much, aside from live Hockey games. But I will watch the hell out of men's figure skating, my Granny and I used to bond on Sunday afternoons when I was little, watching. Awww now my day's going to be figure skating, we have the 2026 Olympics to watch.... and I loathe the Olympics... *hides secret binge watching shame behind the couch*

Will has cherished Tommy for a very long time, he just opened her eyes to see what he knows others will see. Tommy's journey in this book is not as a side kick, a love interest, or a tag along. To Jacob, he's the star that guides him, to Will he is as much his son, and to Canada, a symbol. That even beaten, we can still win. No bigger F-U to the occupation than to take their gold from them.

They found out who he was when Sarah did. Excuse my slip there, you are absolutely right... however the Americans would love to get their hands on Ned, of all of Will's children Ned is the one that gives them the most leverage over Will... or so they believe. His drug history, his cavorting with a known international criminal on the FBI most wanted list... the scandal alone would be useful to both sides in the coming election. Especially when 54 electoral votes are on the line.

It's implied that the messages are read, and since Ned is writing from a neutral country (Switzerland in this case) he's out of their reach for the time being. But yes, they are now aware of who he is.
