You've hit on the core of it. They are both being incredibly stupid. They are very much in love, it's that Will believes he has to do this to find himself. Something Marc helps him do. And that, ultimately, is the catalyst to get him to realize he's been an idiot. Growing up can be hard, and it takes both of them a while to do it. I like that I am now able to explore that.

Riley is the only one loved in this book, and loved in return, so yes in a way. There is a second book, mostly written, about Riley getting his way. That one *is* a love story... just sideways and upside down across five lanes of the M25... in typical Riley fashion.

Because we could all do with a bit of humour:

You're still thinking Ben thinks like we do. He doesn't. That's his Kieran, and he decides what happens to him.
-
You are very right, Donny Masterson is following him, and would have most certainly seen where Andrew went in Smith Falls. I do not think he managed to follow Andrew into Toronto, his erratic driving, the speed of the MULE would have lost him trying to go through Oshawa.

Mommy WHY is this section of the Presidential Library Age resticted to Adults Only? Um little Timmy, President Carter was, um... very interested in debreifings

I''l let you in on a secret, T'wasn't Daddy that hired the lawyer. T'was someone more silent.

I know of rumours and stories, of what had to be done some times. Rural place, just like Merrickville, corrupt legal system and some REAL monsters. They like to hide in the dark places. But they forget that there is a justice to be found when all other options are gone. I am struggling to remember the quote, but it runs to the effect of: Deny enough people justice for long enough, they will make their own.

Same all over. There are literally cases like this in England right now. We're watching Mendalson and Andrew Montbatten-Windsor being protected in real time by the old boy network
-
I did a lot of research into this scenario, and this one case just drove it home. The SHEER evil of McElroy was... beyond the pale. How he got away with it, for so long, so effectively makes me doubt the whole rotten system that allowed it

Will and Andrew, no matter what happens, they can't help themselves. Re-opening wounds that had never healed. Andrew is stuck, and he can't see it. Great intelligence, legal mind, CSIS Asset in training... and he can't see what everyone else sees. To be fair, Will doesn't see it either.

Chapter 10: The Kinetic Ghost The 401 was a grey, unspooling ribbon of industrial indifference, but to the MULE, it was a proving ground. Andrew Highmore drove the prototype with a focused, surgical aggression that lived in the space between control and abandon. The car had a Kenwood radio, troublingly it wasn’t working, no doubt a short somewhere in the complicated wiring behind the dash. But the engine provided a soundtrack that rendered music obsolete. The modern three-valve V8 wasn't a

I forgot about Ned, hmmm that's not a bad idea. Out of the Family, he'd be the MOST chill driving instructor ever. "Like pull over here!" "But that's across three lanes of traffic!" "Sure, but it's the best donut shop in town... and I have the munchies!" "You're high again!" "I am not, but I wish I was... man you drive worse than Pa-pere if that's possible... now stick the indicator on and crank the wheel hard over, Alllonsy!"
-
Not to mention who is going to teach Jacob to drive. I mean he kinda knows already... but still We hasn't driven himself in a decade. Andrew is a MEANACE behind the wheel, and the world's WORST driving instructor West would just remark that they can figure it out, like he did. And that leaves... oh man... oh hell no... oh dear.

If Will wins, those boys are in for a difficult time. This doesn't end with an election vote. If Will loses, those boys are in for a hellish time. Reprisals will be harsh, and hit all of them. But they have each other, they have their dads, they have a big brother that loves them, and they have their uncles. A family that is a bastion.
-
oh dear, the err... reasons that is there boggle the mind.
-
Ben is powerful for exactly this reason. And he knows it
-
Not till they're 16! And have done all their homework. And they can sneak past the Marine guards.
-
"I don't think that's what it means to: Poll the electorate." "You're just lucky you nicked the Presidential Briefs." "Well this makes a change from Seaman jokes." "Oh no, no, no... we're not done with those "REAR-Admiral"." "Shut up Carter!"
-
OMG now I am picturing : Scene: A Submarine Pen, and Angry Admiral vs a pissed off President. Seamen rushing to hide from the cataclysmic fight brewing. "You know this is just a garage, right?" Andrew snaps. "Yes, but it's bigger... and that's not a mustang!" Will gestures to the billion dollar submarine. "Still, I'm sure there's a back seat in there somewhere!" "I am NOT Peter, you don't get to shut me up by being dorky and sexy... and in uniform... and... oh God damn it, I am never winning an argument again am I?"
-
I mean Uncle Peter and Uncle West do have the healthiest relationship out of the bunch. Will and Andrew used avoidance and Garage fights (The don't ask rule) But West and Peter met things head on, and could always separate their fighting from their love. So yeah I see the boys adopting the far healthier and more fun of the two styles

It's relatively common, from what I have been reading. Now if they fight and break up, sure, Will's going to have a headache, but his bond with Tommy is very strong. Scene morning after the break up, kitchen table. "Pass the pancakes to your Ex boyfriend please..." "No, he smells funny and he's a jerk." "You're the one who broke up with me! Now here's the syrup, jackass..." "You two quite done, or do I have to seperate you again?" BOTH: HE STARTED IT! So nope, no different from normal then.

It would have been done earlier But after Carter's Run, Throne came only a few weeks later it was all too soon, then the occupation and it wasn't practical. It felt right here, a way to closing Tommy and Jacob's arcs for the book. That and Will was nervous about asking, which is always a good thing, seeing the human fears of a leader grounds him And let's face it Uncle Peter would have probably had a word earlier in the book about it.
