When my eyes opened again, the entire room that I was in was completely dark. Empty. Black. I rubbed my eyes and attempted to get up from the bed, my mind feeling a bit weak from the inside. I had a pretty fierce headache, and it seemed to pierce and stab at me from behind my eyes. My head began to spin a bit as I stood up, and...I don't know....something just suddenly felt....wrong. I struggled to get steady on my feet, but the walls, ceiling, and floor around me seemed a bit 'crooked'. Like

I ran.... I ran so fast, so far, so hard.... No one could have chased after me when I ran out of that lot, not at this speed. I didn't know where, or when, or even IF, I could stop running at this point! My feet were barely scraping the street's surface as my body was propelled forward at a blinding pace. Even with my eyes tearing up over what I had done, the wind resistance alone helped to keep my vision clear. Still...it hadn't washed away the memory of what I had just done. Over and

It's been said that suffering builds character. And there are few that know suffering better than young Justin. Only 14 years old, he has found an easy way out. A suicidal tendency that he is hoping will bring an end to his misery. But when he meets a mysterious boy at the end of Navy Pier one dark evening...he is given an alternative. One that will give him purpose, and set in motion the events that will lead to his ultimate destiny....in a world not like our own.

It HAD to be inside of me somewhere! It just HAD to be! Somehow, some way, after spending this much time in the lot, I must have picked up at least a LITTLE bit of Dylan's invisibility extra. Especially after helping him practice and all. The only question is...how in the hell am I supposed to call it up so that I can make some use of it? I tried sifting through my mind, tried thinking of him and what he was doing, tried to concentrate over the constant pounding of the techno rave beats swirlin

"We have a holiday?" I asked. "We've got PLENTY of them. We ARE an actual 'culture' you know?" Max said, with a harmless scowl. Probably more from habit than actual offense. "Once Bryson starts setting you up with texts and history and scriptures to learn, you're gonna have to know all 28 vampire holidays by heart. So I suggest you keep tonight in mind." "You mean like...school?" I asked, and Max nodded. "I became a vampire to get AWAY from school, dude!" "Too bad, man. You've got about

Lead I did...walking WAY ahead of Trevor without another word spoken between us. I didn't care anymore. Does he have any IDEA what I'm capable of? The amazing things that I can do? Even 'I' haven't learned all the tricks yet, and it's getting stronger and stronger every minute of the day. And he thinks he can come here a muscle me into doing what what HE wants? FUCK him! It felt GOOD, being able to torture him! Seeing into his mind, and exposing his fears and painful memories, twisting them to

As to be expected, Dylan froze up. His smile....gone n an instant. He was literally petrified. "Th-th-thanks...thanks..." Was all he could get to stutter out from his sweet pink lips. He was so goofy over Dion. "Come here..." He gave Dylan a hug, and I could see the tension in his body shoot up to a ten on the richter scale. He gasped the second Dion made contact, and held that breath until he let Dylan go. I thought he was gonna break any minute. Dion released the scared little boy and said,

I don't remember much about what happened in my sleep before waking up with a jolt the next evening. I'm not sure I remembered it at all. But I know that I had a dream of some sort. A nightmare. I looked over to the side of the bed and saw that Tim's tape was still playing on repeat. Doing what it could to keep my dreams from being tracked. But whatever defense it gave me from my mystery attacker by alternating my brainwaves was wearing thin. This creature was figuring out the pattern, breaking

I took a stance, and with a slow, deep breath...I felt my entire body relax. My limbs became loose, but ready. My mind cleared itself entirely, and I found my center deep in the pit of my stomach. It was like having everything balance out perfectly in a single instant. Kid or no kid, he's NOT gonna make an 'easy win' out of me! With a boyish smile...he attacked again! I watched his short blond mop fly up and swing around as his slim frame spun low to kick my legs out from under me, but my

He never once told us where we were going that night. Gyro simply led the way and we followed, hoping that he had some kind of 'possible' solution to all of this trouble we had gotten ourselves into. We owed Jeremy a lot of money for the blood that he had given me, and he was looking to collect. No more excuses, no more extensions. Tomorrow night before 3 AM, or I am going to have one hell of a problem on my hands. >From what I understand from some of Gyro and Dion's gossip that night, Jer

Leaving the lounge area, thankfully with my body in tact, I searched the maddening crowd for Dion and Gyro. I seemed to be generating much more attention than I had previously done when I had first walked into that place. People smiled at me, and reached out to touch me, shouting out my name. Women would run up, briefly wrap their arms around my neck, and place kisses on my cheeks. Boys did the same without embarassment. If it hadn't been so dark in there, there would be no way for me to preven

Michael walked way ahead of me, constantly motioning with his hand to tell me where to go, and we made it to the same abandoned building down the block where we always seemed to end up. I guess the rest of them considered it to be our solitude from the lot. Michael led me up to the roof, and closed the door behind us. A slight lopsided grin was plastered on his face, but somehow it wasn't as 'friendly' as he was intending it to be. "Sooo....what is this all about, Michael?" He walked passed

So that's what it was. That is why it is being kept so secret. Because anyone who seeks the answers to the Vampire Dawn is really seeking the truth. That the choices are ours to make from the very beginning. That the only thing that causes this insecurity, this harsh judgement of others, this double standard in everything that we think, say, and do...is created by our blindness to the other side of the coin. Our denial of the other paths that exist around us. If a homophobic person were to st

"But...but... how in the HELL did you know???" I said, feeling the slight tremors in my chest, probably speaking up louder than I should have, and then looking around to see who might have heard me. "Justin...it's ok. Calm down." Tiana said, looking at me as though I were going to pop like a balloon any second. "Can you tell? Did I say something wrong?" "No, no...I read your extra the second you met me. It's a little parlor trick I learned from Comicality a few years ago. But I never

We all left shortly after I became a part of the huddle. Me, Taryn, Dion, Jenna, Rain, Bryson, and Max with Kid in tow behind him as usual. Jun, while feeling a lot better after having both his legs 'burned out' from running, declined to go. I wasn't talking to anyone outside of a few phrases here and there, and that was only to answer when spoken to, so I didn't get the whole story behind it. But I got the impression that Jun had a rather bad experience with a Sun Quest once, and that made thi

I was practically skipping up every other step, still feeling exhilirated over the events that had just taken place. The old building was so run down that I was usually careful so as not to fall through a broken step or lean on a faulty railing. But not tonight. Tonight...I was invinceable. What did I have to worry about? "Jussstin..." Came a whispered hiss from a darkened room to the side of me. I stopped climbing the stairs and stood still, hoping to hear it again, and yet not sure that

I kept my silence, angrily biting my tongue as I pouted inside. I had only taken a few bitter sips of the drink in front of me, but it did nothing to calm my nerves. So I just sat there, staring a whole in the table, and not saying a word. For the last few hours that I spent with Gyro at the club that night, I doubt that I could have put a decent sentence together anyway. Not with the rage I felt inside at that moment. Not after what he told me. All this time I had been living with the ill

On the way back to the middle of the lot, I noticed something out of the corner of my eye. It was Jun, and he looked as though he were in some kind of trance. He was standing in a small circle that he had drawn himself in the dirt, and was moving slowly. Like the movements of Tai Chi, but these looked a lot more complex somehow. It was smooth, balanced, graceful...almost unnaturally so. I stood and watched attentively for a moment. His control was waaay above normal, his muscles moving in the

I held Jenna a little bit closer and gave her a comforting squeeze. Just a little something to let her know that I really appreciated the fact that she told me a little more about herself. It had been quite a while now since I had been adopted into their little family, and I was just now beginning to understand them on a deeper level. They were finally starting to loosen up around me, and stopped being so guarded about their past. It made me wonder if I'd become the same way after being in da

I paced back and forth for the next hour or so, just trying to get the images of my dream out of my mind. But they never left me for more than a second. The visions stayed with me, and wrapped a cold shroud around me that kept me shivering with the awful things they showed me. I was finally calm enough to sit down on the edge of the bed, with Taryn still sound asleep as usual, and silently worked everything out in my head as best as I could. And the answers I came up with bothered me more than

I went out of the back door, surprised that people actually said 'g'night Justin' on my way out. People who didn't even know my name before tonight. I guess that was my little imprint for the evening. Maybe they'll remember me the next time I visit. It felt kinda weird, but in a good way. For the first time I felt...I don't know...'popular'. I never saw THAT coming. I left the club and once the cool air of the alley hit me, I was more than happy to free my mind from the growing number of tho

I guess the sunset hit at about 7:30 that night, but the few hours in between that and the time I woke up were endless. The ticking of the second hand that little clock would have driven me insane had it kept that annoyingly slow rhythm going for another minute. Taryn slept like the dead. I'm sure we all did. It's sort of like a vampire's hibernation from sun up to sundown. But something about watching him sleep filled me with such a peaceful feeling inside. And I wouldn't be able to look at

The air around me seemed especially crisp that night. Especial quiet. It brought a feeling of sudden awkwardness to my every step. Maybe it was chasing Chad around half the city earlier that was making my body tingle this way. When I actually thought about it, it was pretty amazing that I was able to keep up. My body semmed to know exactly what to do, even when my mind was completely lost. I could feel my instincts growing so rapidly that they began kicking into gear before my mind could even
