Both. I need a lot of material to work and I buy a lot for fun or personnal interests. But most of my books comes from my maternal grand-parents (and my grand-mother's parents before them) collection. My family doesn't have precious old furnitures, silverware, family jewelry, pieces of art or stuffs like that. We have books and the walls with the shelves to hold them. "My" flat comes from inheritance too and I'm actually my mom's freeloader. My bro and her doesn't live in this town so I kinda hold the fort. ^^ But the books are mine. My uncle doesn't have children and my bro doesn't share my interest in them and everybody agreed to let me have them when my grand-pa made his will. So most of them I would never give even if I had to sleep on them because of lack of space. They're mine but kind of not mine either. I'm just holding them and adding to them for the next generation and so on I hope.

It's not indiscreet. I've never speak anything else other than french until I was eleven (Cursing in Macedonian, Serbian, Arabic and Portuguese does not count I guess. ^^) and perfectly is a bit too flattering but thx. ^^ Mostly my books are organized by languages, then genres and then alphabetically. Even if I have several times the same book in different languages I don't put them together. There's exceptions like the dictionaries, grammar books, a few phrase books and some reference books on different litteratures. They have a shelf of their own rather close to my studying area. I often have to compare things between slavic languages and I can't afford to travel through my 5 rooms flat all day. This shelf is designed to allow the books I use the most to be the easiest to reach so to other's eyes it's a mess. ^^ One other exception is the big Artbooks and the valuable ancient books. They're displayed mostly in order to look nice in the living room. And the last concerns my favourites. Almost on each bookshelf, I'll put a dozen of the stuffs I prefer forward regardless of any logical order. It doesn't have any practical nor even aesthetic values. I just like it that way. Now that I wrote it, I can see why people complain when I don't go get what they want myslef.

If the back of the thigh wasn't so damn painful, I'm sure I would have been one very happy girl too because the artist was really easy on the eyes. As for visible tatoos well that's a shame. Mokos are so sexy. =^^= But it depends in what kind of milieu you're mostly living in. I know that so far it hasn't been an issue in my university. One of the librarian even has the whole left shoulder and arm tatooed and I've never seen anybody say anything except to gap in awe. The German dep. head has a thin tatoo on her ankle and foot (it's a grape-vine of some sort and actually quite nice). And so on. The Dean being such an old pig, I seriously wouldn't be surprised to learn that he has a pin-up on the chest. X_x Oh and some reactions made me wonder so I did a little research. It appears that the bible strictly forbids tatoos (though the funny thing is that in some other part God himself marks Cain. Go figure.). As an atheist I had no idea. There's some exceptions but mostly jews, christians and muslins authorities don't approve of it. So if your boss if a fundamentalist, well... keep your shirts on guys! ^^

Ooookay! I was thinking about using it but on the last count I had more than ten time that (grandfather's inheritance included, I'm not THAT much of a book worm, hu. ). It's summer and I have the time to do it so I guess I should buy something more appropriate to my needs. Any suggestion ?

You're only 16. Your body might still change. Especially your shoulder could get broader and stuff and it might not do wonders on your tatoo. I was 16 like you when I began to think seriously about getting a tattoo. It took me 6 years to really make up my mind and choose just the right one at just the right place. I also know that at 16 I was more bashful and I certainly would have not dare what I have now (no it's not a naked stud on the butt, tsk). Like your body, your mind might still change a great deal in the next few years while your tatoo will not. For some people it might not be a problem to do it on the spur of the moment but for most it's not really a good idea. Besides, I know that personnally, there's no way I'd let anybody near my skin with a needle without having discussed the "whys" and the "hows" of it thouroughly. I grilled 3 artists and visited a good deal of shops before finding what I wanted. But it was worth the wait, it's been 5 years and it still makes me warm inside to look at mine. As for the pain I can't really tell because I've always been rather resistant too it but I was a nervous wreck because needles are my big fear.

Okay, if Kitty finds the guts to do it, I'll show mine. =^^= And just to emphasize your point, tatoos have existed for so long and in so many cultures that "polite society" just doesn't mean anything concerning them.

This one is easy but wouldn't help Gay Authors membership I believe because it mainly involves leaving your computer A-LO-NE. Anyway, I'd also be glad to answer any questions about the BOARD and if you don't have one... Well, you can still join and make fun of LBtw. =^^=

Most of the time I don't care but sometimes, I'm soooooooo glad about some coming out. XP

If he makes fun of Ballroom Dancing take him see or rent Take the Lead. NOBODY makes fun of ballroom dancing once he's seen Antonio's tango! *drool*

Well, no. I didn't know that. I mean I can tell a Texan from a New Yorker but that's about it. If the nuance is important for the story, it shouldn't be automatically implied based on local standard. Or I guess many "outsiders" would miss it and miss on the depht of the story. Now of course, taking that in consideration and still have subtility and fluidity in the writing is the real challenge. ^^

Just from the non native english speaker : accents are a pain. It's funny though but in very small dose. Like for minor characters or if the character is actually supposed to be incomprehensible. I have to carefully read the sentence, then imagine how it sounds and finally try to guess with what "real" english words it bears enough resemblance to make sense. The Urban Dictionnary also became my best friend.

Gimme a picture of him and I could fake FIND photographic evidences that he's an "overly-accepting" boy. X) -

If you're asking for stupid ideas, I'm your girl. O_o - If you have a pet name or something that she'll recognize but won't divulgue your name to strangers : post an add in a local paper. - Sing it. - A simple treasure hunt. Hide a little paper with a clue where to find a second, the second giving clue to the third and so on until the last one with your big news. They can be put in random or meaningful places, depends what you want. - Oh! The fake tatoo : Water 61,6% Proteins 17% Lipids 13,8% Mineral salts 6,1% Glucides 1,5% Gay 100%

hum I don't want to trivialize anything but I still have 3 love letters (love "drawings" really) that a certain Sebastien gave to me in 3rd grade. I only remember his first name because it's written on them. My point is that it was a long time ago and I still advise not to throw cautiousness away for the sake of fond memories. But that's sweet anyway. ^^ I thought exactly the same thing.

I second that. If it took him 20 years to figure out where he stands, he can grant you a couple more to know where you two stand. Like Vic, I think that if you want to try you should (doubts and regrets are a plague) but that doesn't mean that you should do it carelessly and risk more than necessary. Emphasis. O_o

Oh list of books. My hobby! O_o First, when I'll talk about the themes it'll be roughly, highschool level in my mind. American Litterature : I won't try that, I guess. ^^ World Litterature : The Judgment, Kafka Well... All you've ever wanted to know about dark atmosphere in novels is here! First the political denunciation is obvious but there's also all this slow but inevitable wearing out of the hero's mind by the absurd circumstances which is very interesting to study. Don Quixote, Cervantes This is the FIRST "modern" novel. Narratives techniques, inner shiftings, author's interferences within the text... Just about everything break free from the previous styles. And I won't even begin to mention the fabulous gallery of characters. Ferdidurke, Gombrowicz This book is... first of all an exuberant game with words and language. I loved it as a teenager because I think that along with a few others, it showed be that writting could be... anything but mostly cathartic and fun. There's also so critic of culture and teaching, of technical progress and the childish state of mind mankind is kept into. Ok, maybe I don't make much sense. Just try it. >_> Out of Africa or/and Letters from Africa, 1914

Borderline Cro-Magnon. The unmatching socks are cute though. ^^

Ok, I said that I was certainly not going to have much thought about X-Men 3... But of course I did. And the more I think about it, the more I think that the impact, if impact there is, could not be that good. I'm a fan of Gambit -oeuf corse-, always have been and when you think Gambit you think Rogue. How much did those two suffered because of Rogue's power ? Far too much for me to believe that there is, in HER case any relevance with being gay. Rogue does not suffer that much from prejudices like most mutants. She mostly suffers because of her power and how it limits her in the most basic human behaviour. Rogue's power is more like AIDS. You can accept and love people with AIDS all you want, fact is that no matter what there will always be a barrier because of it and a threat of death. I don't see how you'd not want a cure in HER case. Now, more generally, being gay is not a threat. Mutations can definitely be and there are serious reasons to be affraid. When you have somebody as disturbed as... Let's say Feral (apparently killed her younger sister and brother and without doubt her mother... what a babe!) with superhuman powers it's like giving a gun to a psychopath. If you don't feel threatened by it you seriously lack common sense. It doesn't mean that mutants should be eradicated. It just mean that fear of them is understandable. Now I don't see where fear or hate of homosexuality could be understandable. A crazy gay with a gun is dangerous because he's crazy and has a gun. Only the insanity and the weapon are threats here. Same reasoning goes with the color of the skin and so on. So in the end, I'd rather people do not associate mutants with gays and lesbians. I don't think McKellen made a smart move with that comparison.

I agree with LB. I know I certainly won't be seing it for any kind of message. I'll go see it for the hot guys in black leather suits, the cool sfx and that's about it. Like I didn't gave much thought to nuclear stuffs after seing Godzilla or genetic experimentations after seing Jurassic Park. Those movies take my mind away from reality and I don't think I'm the only one like that. I have a one track mind and after the movie I have the feeling I'll once again reflect on only one thing : Are Wolverine's claws his only steeled retractable appendages ? People are dense. Best being loud and clear when you want to explain or show something because chances are they'll get distracted by the details of the metaphors and totally miss the big picture. DK said it before : People are lazy they won't even want to see it anyway.

This woman is worse than the devil himself
Xandra Kitee replied to WatchPatRun's topic in The Lounge
The real problem with that kind of people is that the medias gives them the soap box and the audience. Saying that a gathering of a mere hundred very obviously perturbed people had occured at the funeral was the only line they deserved. Furthermore the family of this soldier certainly did not deserved to see them on TV along with the coffin. Grieving is bad enough as it is without seing it associated to blind hatred. They did that to shock and gain attention. They definitely won. Because after seing it once, I remember the name of that woman but I have no idea of the name of the soldier. It gives them far more importance than they have (it's a 100 weirdos fer chrissake) nationwide and worldwide. I turn off TV or change the channel when I see people like that. They do NOT deserve my attention and my time. At least not this way. What pisses me off is not them. Laughing at them, critisizing them, hating them for 5 min is meaningless. I'd rather turn my back on them and use my energy and my time for constructive purpose. What's piss me off is that they won 5 min of national TV audience. This 5 min bashing of bigots gives people clear conscience. Thet feel good that they're not like them and that's about the only reaction for most of them. Thx Ms Hannity and Colmes for this piece of collective self-satisfactory anesthetic. Geez, I really can't stand Fox News... >_> -
I guess I was spoiled for nowadays singers at an early age : Acid Queen - Tina Turner (The shoulder straps of the dancers are a riot!) Actually that wouldn't be my first choice but since very few could understand why the live performance of Les bonbons by Jacques Brel is so good... seems a bit pointless.

I'm not too good with words of comfort so I'll use those of others : Do not go on my grave and cry For I am not there and I do not lie. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow, I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the sweet uplifting rush, of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not think of me as gone - I am with you still in each new dawn.
