Thanks, Randy! I think Toph sees it but is a little afraid of going for it right now. The distance between Steve and Toph seems to be a more comfortable fit for him at this point in time.
  2. Thanks, Randy! Your guess is pretty good, as you've probably found out by now. Thanks for the review!
  3. Hey, Randy! I'm glad you discovered Toph and tickled you left a review.

Thanks, Tim! I'm not sure the suggestion of therapy was Gary not believing Toph's reaction to his mother. It seems he was more worried that Toph couldn't articulate WHY he felt that way, which could be a repression of some underlying emotion. A therapist might help Toph unravel it. But not to worry! In the next chapter, Toph finds someone better than a therapist!
  5. Thanks, Lisa! You're so close to the end that I don't want to spoil anything, so I won't answer your questions. BUT if you never find out what David whispered, you can make it anything you want.
  6. Thanks, Lisa! Alex DID come through. It's too bad she didn't send David to meet her brother when he first (sort of) came out to her. It would have saved him a world of hurt. He has a long way to go, but being comfortable with himself is going to be more than half the battle, so I have a good feeling about that.
  7. Congratulations Val! Very well deserved

Thanks for the great review and you kind words! Toph takes some time to process certain things. The deal with Clarence you have mentioned, and what Gary said will reappear in chapter 21. And they will merge with other aspects of his family Toph has had mulling around in his brain--actually since this very chapter.

Thanks, CG! As always, you hit on an important little detail. Texas Boys do remind them of that first holiday where they really fell in love. I think it's why the painting was so important for them both. Thanks for the review!

Thank you, avid! Thanks for your kind words and yes, just a few more chapters will finish Toph's year. I really appreciate your reviews!

Thanks, jess! Well, Toph does have a few issues "left' to resolve, so I don't think we need anything more out of "left" field. I appreciate your reviews!

Thanks as always, Graeme, for your great reviews. I look forward to them and appreciate them. Now that "Twoey" is put to bed, maybe I can step up the pace a little on Toph. Of course that means he'll end sooner too.

Thanks for taking the time to write such kind words, tony. They're greatly appreciated!

Thanks, spikey! Yeah, about the lunch details. I'm sure you've noticed it sometimes takes a while for Toph to digest certain things. We have to wait a few chapters for some events to come to light. I guess it's just the way his mind processes information. He'll meet Moms again in the next chapter for a longer and more emotional discussion. Thanks, as always, for your reviews. I appreciate them--really!

Thanks, tim! You're right. It's always sad to see a family that's not really a family (no love). The contrast between the two couldn't be greater. Maybe Toph will have to adopt a new family too. I really appreciate your reviews of "Toph."

Thanks, jay! Teddy goes right to the source to get his facts, doesn't he? Maybe he'll become a journalist. Gary's parents HAD to know how much the painting meant. Now, who told them? Thanks for taking time to leave a review. It's much appreciated.

Thanks, jt! Aw...happy tears aren't bad! Yeah, you've got Toph's mind figured out pretty well. Thanks for the review!

Thanks, AC! How would that allegory work if the parents with love become the vehicle to help Toph reconnect to the parents without love? Would we call that an alligature? Thanks for the great review!

I have to disagree with spikey here. There is a clear reason Eli isn't talking and it has nothing to do with making it worse for himself. He is in love with Chase and has witnessed, with his own eyes, Joey's hold over him. If one thinks Joey is going to be taken away to rot in jail, no matter what the evidence, for one teen beating up another, that person lives in a different world. It is genuine concern for Chase, who is powerless to come to his own defense. That other world must also contain 15 year old boys who trust and talk to adults. Doesn't happen in this world and never has. Ever.
  21. Thanks, Lisa! Sorry for the destruction of you unabridged review. Another reviewer mentioned somewhere that this particular 'Danny' was now a creation of David's mind. That was an interesting observation. So this 'Danny' is reinforcing David's decision. Convenient.
  22. Thanks, Lisa! I think Tommy's mind--read: hormones--are on other things right at this moment. And the adults probably see a moody teen--if they even noticed him at all. They were sort of preoccupied too. Ginny, being out of town, probably considers the drinking just some stuff 15yos get into. As long as he wasn't going to have dire effects he'd probably simply be hungover for a few days. She doesn't suspect his mental condition--although a call to Mr. Galli to check on David would have been prudent--after all, she knew he was home without adults. That was sort of inexcusable. She was preoccupied too, I guess.
  23. Thanks, Lisa! These next few chapters are difficult, no question about it.
  24. Thanks, a.r.! Yes, Putin was a good choice--can't get more hard-nosed than that! Unfortunately, David won't stay stealthy enough--it will cost him dearly.
  25. Thanks, Lisa! About the silly gifts: I think David was just going through the motions, maybe feeling safe in the tradition. He gave short shrift in his description because he had other things to worry about. He's about ready to lose it.
