    Chapter 5

“You’re not very good at being unpredictable,” Talia said with a frown. She was beginning to grow bored of pegging him with blades, Carlin knew. Whenever Talia started to show interest in conversation, he knew that she was no longer entertained. Like her brother, Carlin had observed that Talia was typically quiet, favoring action as opposed to words. The key difference between the two was the way in which they held themselves in silence. While Alex seemed, cold, rude, and distant, Carlin felt th

    Chapter 4

Luca made his way through the twisting cobblestone streets of the Nabian capitol, dodging countless vendors and shopkeepers urging him to have a look at their specially priced wares. The street was hot and crowded, filled with the scent of countless spices and roasting meats. Beads, scarves, hulking Nabian citizens, and groups of screaming children playing war games were among the obstacles in his path, which he walked almost subconsciously. It was his fourth year in the city, and he had always

    Chapter 2

I'm hoping to get the next few chapters written in the next day or two, so it should remain fairly consistent! I'm heading overseas for the next semester though, and I'm not sure how much will get done in the first few days after that happens. I'm glad you're liking it so far!!

    Chapter 3

Soft light pierced the captive’s mind and grew stronger in intensity until Alex was able to open his eyes, vision bleary and his head aching. Straightening with a groan, the general’s son briefly wondered why he felt so numb and achy. The skin on his wrists felt raw and chaffed, and he could not make out why he felt so strange. As the fog over his brain dissipated, memory came flooding back in a sudden burst. I have been captured. For a moment, he wondered if his captors were holding him for ran

    Chapter 2

Soon enough, Alexandre found that Carlin was everything that he wasn’t, and the same was true for the other man. Where Alex slowed, Carlin sped up. Where Carlin dodged, Alex struck. While Carlin took brutal swings that Alex knew could cleave a man in half if they had been using real swords, Alex fought with rapid stabs and slices that intended to make the opponent weary over time. Even the weapons they chose when it came to basic swordsmanship differed. Alexandre favored dual wielding two lightw

    Chapter 1

Ahh thanks! I wasn't really sure how to introduce everything that I wanted without being incredibly lengthy and boring (also it's my first attempt at writing ) but I'm glad that it's not too bad to get through!! I kind of imagine Alex as a younger Richard Madden if that helps, but I hope you keep reading! I've planned out the next dozen chapters or so, and hope they work out well. Thanks again !!!

I'm so excited to read more! You do a really great job at leaving the chapters in suspenseful moments and my only misgivings about this story is that I can't read it faster than you write it!

    Chapter 1

Alexandre Di Coteau sat in the field, wistfully looking down a hill at a mass of flowers that ranged from a deep plum to bright red, and every color in between. The reds and purples were outlined by black, or what looked like black. In reality, the stems and leaves of the flowers were a dark green, that only made the overgrown plants look like they were patriotic to Nabius. Bitterly, the general’s son squinted at the ground and ripped up a handful of flowers to reveal a patch of black, wet earth
