    Lame Duck

The whir of the electronic wheelchair was deafening to Jared Bourdais as he rolled himself off the plane and onto the tarmac. He could feel their eyes on him, the grim-faced ghoulish bureaucrats certain he'd soon leave office, especially with this new tragedy to face. They'd called him a lame duck the moment he took office when he'd only had a cane, or at least the opposition had. Now he was certain all of them did. He'd contracted DH-20, a virus so vile it didn't even have a proper name ye

The physically handicapped President of the United States pays a visit to a facility in Roswell, NM, at the request of the scientists working there.

    Chapter 27

Thanks, Robin. It's always nice to see another person dig into The Navigator. Have you checked out any of my other stories yet? My personal favorite is "From the Cup of the Worthless".
  4. Mine depends entirely on whom I'm speaking to, and I match their way of using it. I generally don't write out laughter in any way when I'm writing fiction.

    Mind's Prison

There's a hidden meaning, one I wanted to touch on with the lyrics but I'm not sure I did it justice. I wanted to communicate a universal love, where it's not necessarily a love of an individual which frees us, but love in general. This means, as long as we are filled with the power of love, we can exit the cell at our bidding. It's similar to the message I was trying to convey in my story "Across the Pool", now that I think about it. Maybe, in a way, this poem is a reflection of that same spirit? Thank you for the review.

    Mind's Prison

This was exactly what I needed to write in the depths of my typical February darkness, so I completely understand. I'm glad it was able to help you out, and know that the love expressed herein is a universal love. Let's escape together, brother, shall we?

    Mind's Prison

I actually have a musician buddy of mine looking it over already. It was written as a song, and I have every intention of it becoming one. With any luck, I'll be able to hear it sometime this year. If we do, I'll make sure we get it up on YouTube. This is probably the most easily a song or poem has ever flowed from me. I wrote this in less than an hour, and I think I've only channeled the muse that well once. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

    Death and Dawn

Isn't it amazing how I can completely forget that I wrote this? I guess, in a way, it really was a catharsis I needed, because I've healed a lot since then. This was a rather poignant thing to come back and read again after so long . . . On February 22nd, every year, I honor those who are no longer with me, and give appreciation to those who are with me still. It's a personal holiday, which I make sure to get off work and cancel all other commitments so I can focus on honoring those I've lost. It's been very useful in my grieving process, and it's beautiful to be able to see where I've been in relation to where I am now. Thanks for the review. It helped me gain some perspective.
  9. Mind's Prison: These halls are haunted, these walls are screaming. Each dream is a chain which holds me bound. My life is distorted beyond your redeeming, For the darkness persists even when you're around. I doubt you could set me free, 'cause I'm stuck here eternally. A prison of my own design, No escape from the cell I create in my mind. I pace and I pace and I pace every day. No one understands how these bars block my way. They all see my smile, but they can't read my eyes.
  10. This was really the only excerpt I thought I could get away with sharing. Everything else seemed to give too much away, or would've been too long to qualify without interrupting the action. Thanks again for everyone who read the story, and for all the wonderful reviews and support!

    Chapter 15

It's hard to imagine Nobuyuki's emotional state being anything other than rattled . . . so very hard . . . Especially since Viktor was also freaking out, what with him thinking Vladimir still hates homosexuals. I think Nobuyuki picked up on Viko's mood here, more than anyhting, and so he ran. But, it all worked out, didn't it? A little emotional release and everything is out in the open, and the brothers are brothers again. Thanks again for all the reviews!

    Chapter 14

I had a lot of fun with this chapter. One of my favorite parts is when Dante throws Viktor up against the wall for refusing to admit his feelings for Nobuyuki. If you'll notice, this action is mirrored later by their relatives. I hadn't planned that, and one of my readers had to point it out to me, but it's so far one of my favorite things that has ever happened spontaneously in my writing. But that's Dante for you, saving the day because he really is a good guy. I love that kid.

    Chapter 13

Nobu's been on the fence since the beginning about whether he wants to be a good guy or a, well, not so good guy. Viktor is tipping the scales a bit in favor of the former, and he knows Vladi cares for Viktor. Nobuyuki wants to keep things going in a positive direction, so he makes his honest feelings clear. I think, once you cut off one of your own fingers to save someone's life, you've kind of decided that person matters to you as more than just a bargaining chip.

    Chapter 12

Sorry about the nightmares. You must care about my boys. I wanted to end this chapter on a high note, as a means of cooling down from the last two chapters, and I'm glad it had that effect on you. I'm looking forward to reading your thoughts on some of the later chapters to see if that also matches up with my intended direction. Many thanks for the continued reviews!

    Chapter 9

With power sometimes comes complacency, unfortunately. He also suffers from the same problem as Nobuyuki, that inability to see what's right in front of him because he's so busy considering all the other possibilities. But, wait, there's more . . .

    Chapter 8

Mr. Morrison is generally considered the least favorite character of everyone in the story, but I can see how people can have some significant issues with Mikhail Karimov as well. He definitely has his douchey moments in the story. You're about to reach the real meat of the story. I hope you're ready.

    Chapter 7

I'm looking forward to you seeing the resolution of that story arc. It actually forms the basis for one of my favorite moments in the story, which happened entirely by accident and yet made me fall in love with Dante just a little bit more (By the end of writing this story, Dante was my favorite character I have ever written.) May you enjoy the journey all the way to its destination.

    Chapter 6

I like to think that Nobuyuki feels he needs more evidence if he's going to accuse Daisuke of anything nefarious or negligent. This is the criminal underworld, after all, and any attempt by Nobuyuki to uncover dirt on Daisuke can be viewed as motivated by ambition. Nobuyuki has to be sure he can prove it before he makes such a move, or he'll be under suspicion as well. Viktor is the one I consider the most naive, but that also just gives him the greatest opportunity to grow. Thank you for continuing to read!

    Chapter 5

Vladi and secrets go together like . . . well, two things that go together. Sometimes it's hard to know who to trust, right? Vladi thought he was protecting Viktor from Nobuyuki at the same time, and although he said some terrible things . . . Yeah, he really kind of screwed that up, didn't he? But there will soon be light at the end of the tunnel. Light, and a bottle of sake.

    Chapter 4

Sometimes, being smart can get in the way of seeing reality. Or, in the case of Nobuyuki, sometimes his willingness to explore multiple possibilities prevents him from being able to accept the right one, even if it's staring him in the face. Victor will have his moment in the sun, don't you worry. There's more to come from all these boys. On to the next review!
  23. Cynus

    Chapter 3

Oh, I can't wait until you get to some of the later chapters! It sounds like you're getting invested in their subtle maneuverings, which I hope means you'll be satisfied as the story continues to explore that intrigue. Ooh, I'm so excited!

    Chapter 2

The Vladi/Viktor relationship is one of the largest motivating factors in this story. There's a lot more to come from both sides, and hopefully you'll enjoy all the twists and turns it takes. I'm quite in love with these boys, and they're probably the most precious of all my children. Vladi, Viko, Nobu, and the one you haven't met yet . . . I love them all. Thanks again for reading!
