    Chapter 18

The boys were glad to see Lucinius back. Felix’s dad thought about what would happen if something happened to Lucinius. He asked Aumen, Aumen said we would continue to operate the Villa. What Aumen didn’t tell him was that Lucinius had his name on the papers as well. But the question did bring up an issue. Lucinius and himself were still young men. What if they married? What would their wives think? Would they fit in with the freedom that existed, or would they assume an arrogant attitude treati

Thank you. I think this is a clue into who Lucinius really is.

    Chapter 17

The Senate is made of wealthy men. They are passed down unless the selected individual has no money. Much like the US Senate. They may start out poor but always end up rich. The Rome Senate started out rich, they cut out the middle man

    Chapter 17

Generally a grape vine will produce a sour grape under two conditions, one the grape is picked to soon and the other is that the vine hasn't been trimmed too allow the grape to increase it's sugar content. I would suspect that this vine isn't a grape but a berry vine that has a tart fruit. I didn't find any explanation in the scrolls about why this vine produced this sour grape.

    Chapter 17

You are a naughty boy. I'm not sure about Duccius buying everything. I expect when he inherits his dad's house there won't be any changes in the slave department

    Chapter 17

Lucinius was blessed with a mind and a manner that seemed to draw the best from the people he met and the boys. There is no doubt he was smart and clever. I'm sure that is what his grandfathers saw in him

    Chapter 17

Seth and Lucinius continued working on the cold pit that Lucinius had started. While Lucinius dug out the pit, Seth got a few boys to help dig a trench about a meter below ground level to the grove. It took two weeks for the boys to have the distribution system finished. Now they needed to have the pit finished and then tie it into the well. The boys went to the fields outside the property line and brought rocks to line the pit. Duccius took the cart and went to Rome to buy cement. While he was

I'm sure you know people who don't back away from a problem. ILucinius is smart, he has study scrolls written by smart men, he is open to suggestions, he understands that he doesn't have all the answers and he isn't afraid to ask for help. A wise lad, I'd say.

    Chapter 16

I think Lucinius was always the teacher for Duccius. As children a strong bond existed. Lucinius is quick to pick up on ideas. He has a wealth of information among those boys,.

    Chapter 16

I always wonder what they taste like until I was in Germany and ordered it. The meat was quite dark but I enjoyed it. I'd eat it again, if I had a choice. One of my friends was with me and he couldn't eat it, claimed the black meatvturned him off. The bond between Lucinius and Duccius is very strong

    Chapter 16

I know that the farmers had a cold well with running spring water. They put their food in the water to keep it cold. The reason I know this my father was a farm boy.

    Chapter 16

With the money he made on the wheat and oats, Lucinius bought a small olive press. He planned on using it for grapes as well. One of the boys told him he would need two wheels and two bases to prevent olive oil from getting mixed with grape juice. Licinius thought about that and realized he was right. Since the grapes wouldn’t be ready for a while, he would wait before buying the extra wheels. Duccius saw a way to help his brother. He would buy a second press. They would have a press for olive o

    Chapter 15

Treating people with kindness and rewards will produce a loyalty for some people. For other you will be used. Lucinius situation is different, he is treating b boys who thought they were going to be slaves and everyone knew how slaves were treated. So expecting a whip they got a handshake. Duccius has respect for his brother but he is a product of his dad. If Lucinius hadn't spent the time with his him when they were young, I'm not sure what their relationship would have been.

    Chapter 15

You always are able to get a chuckle out of me. Dante is one of those people that believe they are the exception. He felt that being a freeman with a few denarii was all he would need. Think a farm boy finding himself in London. He did one thing though, he proved what Lucinius said about leaving.

Yes that is what it is called. I think that Duccius will be influenced by Lucinius. He will have his eyes open learning how much more Lucinius boys work compare to the slaves on his dad's home.
