    Chapter 11

That evening in the quiet of his room, Lucinius read his letter from his brother. The news was good, he was planning on coming home soon. The campaign was winding down, and he had gifts for Lucinius. "Make sure I have a room at your house." Lucinius would make sure. The time for Lucinius guests to leave was approaching. Lucinius wanted his mother and grandfathers to stay, but he knew that wasn't possible. The night before his guests were to leave, he served a banquet. The wine kept getting

    Chapter 10

I think that Lucinius chose valor over a fight. He was a gracious host and knowing that Appias ruled Appias's household, he didn't want to cause any problems for his mother.

The house was finished as the architect promised, the animal sheds were finished, and the mother pig was occupying one of the sheds. On several trips to Rome, they bought furniture for the house. Celia donated furnishings as well. His father never missed it. The animals from his grandfather arrived along with Niciu to ensure there weren’t any problems. He brought two men with him that began to prepare the ground for the trees. Snippets of grapevines from Gaius and Duccius were planted in the are

    Chapter 9

I use to go with my father to pick wild blue berries. I think I ate more than I put in the bucket. We use to go and gather walnuts and butternuts as well. I haven't seen butternuts being sold. Also sassafras for sassafras tea. There were several elderberry plants close by and I would pick that for mom, elderberry jam or jelly was the result. You are bringing some of my childhood memories to light. To bad there is a little lake between us, I would love to sit and chat with you over a cuppa

    Chapter 9

Thanks. Lucinius is a very smart young man. Inquisitive, willing to listen and smart. enough to know he doesn't have all of the answers. His grandfathers recognize his intellect. His father's blindness will prevent him from realizing the gem he has in Lucinius

    Chapter 9

Over the next two weeks, with the additional help and two mules, they cleared all of the rubble around the house and about half of the property. Lucinius judged that at the end of another week, all of the rubble would be gone. The architect showed up with two other men. They looked at where the house stood, took measurements, asked some questions about orientation and if he wanted sleeping quarters on the first floor or second, second was his answer. The architect told Lucinius he would be back
