I found that people with closed minds are not really happy people. I don't think Carlos's dad was a happy man.

For the rest of the term, Toby applied himself to his studies. Time passed quickly. Graduation day was just 24 hours away. But graduation wasn't on Toby's mind. What was on his mind was that he'd be at the dig in less than 48 hours. He'd have three months to spend with Carlos. They say it tastes like rabbit. If I don't know, I'll eat anything. I ate the insides of a small turtle when I was in Japan, I wasn't paying attention to what they were feeding me, he had it on chopsticks, "Here try this?" I opened my mouth, then after I ate it, they told me what it was. Not funny

Not sure I'd buy that philosophy, I would need to know I little more about it. I ate calves brains in Belgium, that took a lot of teasing to get me to do that. When I did it was delicious, would I eat it again, no!!!!

I think there are a lot of foods in foreign countries that you would not eat. Many people when they travel will not eat regional food for that reason. There was a television program where the host ate food I would never look at let alone eat.

Unfortunately it is usually the other way around. Most schools in foreign countries tries teach English as a required subject. Young people who have access to tv, pick it up quick particularly if they like the music.

That evening Carlos took Toby to a small restaurant on the outskirts of Lima. “A lot of students come here. The food is good and reasonable.” “Do they have pizza or hamburgers?” Carlos laughed, “No, but you’ll like the local food.” “I was kidding. When you visit in December, I’ll take you to a similar type of restaurant.” When they entered the restaurant, Toby heard a group of students calling Carlos. Looking carefully at the group, he recognized several from the dig. Toby smiled

Not sure but I have had food cooked in Hawaii liked that. I agree that was good. I'll have to do a little research and see how they cook it.

You don't like "kiss ass" food. I used the opportunity to expose my readers to different foods from the countries I write about. They are different from foods normally found in the States. In most cases I have eaten these foods.

I think you will be surprised how the natives of Peru did it. Not everyone has been to a clam bake, I have never. Even camping I can't think of cooking in the ground, camping I have cooked over a fire, or cooking corn or potatoes in the coals. But in the ground, nope. The the only people who I am familiar with that actual roast pigs in the ground, are the Hawaiians

Toby was surprised one morning when his dad told him they would be flying to Peru on Saturday.
