    @Dan South Stefan/Eric desperately wants to be invisible. Sometimes he succeeds. I think you may be onto something, insofar as he seems to get hurt worse when he is most invisible. Thank you very much for hanging in there and making your way through his journal, even as he wanders farther and farther from Carlsberg.

    The visit from Mark, plus what we see of Liam toward the end of the chapter, sent me a clear message about the hazards that await Liam when he emerges from Nurton Cross. Nonetheless, this is a warm and lovely chapter.

    Gideon is on his way to an anguished self sacrifice, it seems: revenge upon a much more powerful and experienced vampire. You outline the wellsprings of his pain eloquently. It’s clear why he wants this, but not clear how he believes he has the least chance of success. Kavan will be sure to follow, but will he arrive in time to do anything but pick up the pieces? Thy name is cliffhanger.

    This is the most intriguing wedding - or the wedding most full of intrigue - that I've been to. So many people jockeying for a piece of CJ and Owen, as if they could be purchased like some kind of commodity. Given all the attention CJ admits to having received from the President and various Secretaries of this and that, maybe that's just the way it is. I thing "Election Denier Virus" (EDV) should be a medically disabling condition from holding any kind of elective or appointive office, from Dogcatcher to President. At least you show us that it is not genetically transmissible.

    Already it’s a Fantastic Friday. CJ and Owen make excellent pirates. Understandably, Owen’s unwilling to be drawn into any kind of intelligence cloak and dagger stuff. Yet Jake is right about traveling in Cuba without any kind of preparation and safety net. To do so seems very naive.

    Thanks very much for your response to this. I can only feel sorrow for the families that have been played as pawns in political games and put through ordeals in the past years. Unfortunately, this poem is as fresh now as when it was written. I’m grateful for your comments, and for your reading.

    Thank you. My mind was filled with images of children at Ellis Island, and in modern detention centers too. The Ballade is a satisfying form, if enough rhymes can be found.
