  1. Thanks very much Gary, I hope you can tag along! It's going to be a hell of a ride
  2. Thanks for all your support, sir glad to have you along!
  3. It's that search tool. It's evil, I tell ya. EVIL!
  4. This just became today's anthem. Thank you, Eurovision. <3
  5. It's about damn time! :D I can only imagine how you guys in America must be feeling. It's not over yet, but it just became a hell of a lot closer (and I'm talking worldwide as well; where the U.S. leads, others generally follow...)
  6. STARDATE 62084 31 January, 2385 CE Just another planet, or so it appeared from up here. Cursory glances out of the window or across public access data terminals afforded him little useful information about the dusty red world above which they circled. And there had been so many, so many planets since this voyage had begun that Kira, Crewman First Class, Rior to his friends, was beginning to wonder whether his first posting would ever yield anything more interesting. He shif
  7. There was a siren blaring, somewhere. Its rhythmic shrieking was pounding within her skull as much as the shots that had just sent her head jarring into the panel before her. She looked up, her vision rippling as though she’d dropped a stone into a glassy lake. Forcing herself to resume something resembling a sitting position, her fumbling hands found again the controls of her craft as a soft, male voice played in her ear. “Major, our FTL drive continues to degrade. Failure is inevitable.” Ari
  8. One is a trigger-happy military officer, the other is a reclusive doctor of archaeology. Two men with nothing but contempt for each other's professions, they come together to solve an ancient mystery scattered in fragments across the galaxy. But when their expedition's starship is destroyed, it not only reveals the reality of their discovery, but summons a terrible enemy determined to seize its secrets and make war upon life itself...
  9. My mum's best friend is a chiropodist and she swears by it. She told us in great detail once about how you should do it every day like she does.
  10. I saw a basking shark once, off the coast near Dover. It was massive... Amazing creatures.
  11. Also, what the hell kind of school do you go to that checks your socks?
  12. "This is not Don Corleone, this is Don Crap!" - Eddie Izzard, "Definite Article"
  13. Sorry, I lol'd. "whinge" is a general British thing I think, I use it all the time. Nice to know our mates over in New Zealand do as well.
  14. There can never be enough being done in space, in my opinion. My only gripe with this mission is that it's just one probe rather than hundreds or thousands. The rest of the world needs to start looking and reaching up; maybe we'll learn how to take better care of ourselves if we do. edit - help, where did this indent come from and how do I get rid of it lol

    Chapter 1

Science-fiction and dad/son both tick my boxes, so thanks for combining the two first and foremost! You've done some excellent world-building in this first chapter and I'm looking forward to more... particularly with these higher-up aliens, whether they'll feature more prominently or not I can't tell yet. I'm almost hoping they don't, as I've something of a fixation with "empty universe" ideas at the moment, and a galaxy full of hot gay hunks is certainly very appealing. Anyway, I'd best get reading...!
  16. Oh my god. Floor (ex-After Forever) is AMAZING. She eats both Tarja and Anette for breakfast. She nails Ghost Love Score live better than Tarja ever did. In my opinion, of course... Century Child is my favourite album though. Ever Dream <3
  17. Any Nightwish fans in? pleasepleasepleaseplease...
  18. Just realised this thread is nearly two years old, so forgive the necro but... I'm glad this thread exists, it's pretty encouraging (the odd accusation of no imagination notwithstanding). One of the reasons I was so reticent to join up and post in days gone by is that my magnum opus, if you like, is "only" fan fiction. I've encountered a lot of flak in the past for not being "creative" enough to write my own "original" story. Hello, my characters and plots are entirely original, thank you, and are no less valid for existing in a universe that has captivated my imagination since childhood. You don't* insult a new writer on a TV series for "playing in someone else's sandbox". The only difference between my fiction and theirs is that theirs got made into a programme... well, that's the way I like to look at it. So yeah, the general feeling I get from this thread is that us fan-ficcers are okay here, so I think I'll get started on that publishing biz. Sooooon... *Okay, I have actually seen people do that.
  19. Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! I guess I'd better think about that Author status then. I've only just passed 7,500 words with the prologue and chapter one, but that's more in forty-eight hours than I've written in three years, so I'm calling it a win!
  20. Hey everyone! I've been lurking here on and off for a few years now. I used to have minor authorial aspirations but a three-year bout of block pretty much cured me of that... HOWEVER, it seems as though the bug has bitten again and it's bitten hard, so I thought now was the perfect time to sign up and give it another go! Here's hoping I can contribute to this community and maybe learn a few new tricks in the process...
