Hey, I remember that Star Trek episode!
McCoy, to Kirk" I'm a doctor, Jim, not a bricklayer!"
Hmm. I wonder if I subconsciously...nah! Live long and prosper! 🖖
"You're serious?" Kippy asked, smiling at Horace. "You want to have a seance?"
"He didn't say that, Kip," Charlie said, sighing. "He said an exploratory attempt to investigate the phantom."
But Kippy just grinned and bounced his shoulders up and down a few times. "Isn't that what a seance is? An attempt to contact a spirit?"
It was still mid-morning, two hours before noon The boys had gone back home to get a few things for an overnight stay, and to tell their parents that they wou
Charlie woke just after dawn, stretched slowly in his bed, and smiled at the soft warmth of Kippy beside him.
"I'm awake, Charlie."
"Are you? Why didn't you wake me up?"
Kippy sighed and lifted his head to smile at Charlie. "Because you were tired, and deserved to sleep if you needed it. And because I like to watch you dream."
Charlie laughed, and nuzzled his face against his boyfriend's. "What time is it?"
"About seven-thirty, last time I looked. Still early."

Yep, that would make sense. I didn't mention that, feeling it was implicit that when anything was watching, nothing happened! The phantom just went somewhere else. They would need a camera at every house, on every street, to hope to catch anything.
But...there's some things you don't know yet, so that's all I'll say!
Why, thank you for saying! I do have to admit that the comment feature on this site makes for a quick response for conversations.
I have a feeling we have met before! Very happy to see you here!
Hi, buddy! Well, Horace first appeared in last Halloween's story, Every Boy Should Face His Demons, Charlie Boone! He has sort of become a regular.
This story sets a new record. The previous longest Charlie Boone tale was Is That A Monster in the Closet, Charlie Boone? at just shy of 55,000 words. This one somehow made it to 66,500 words.
I never did know when to stop gabbing! ☺️
Well, learning entails getting better at stuff, right? At least for some people!
What fun would it be for the guys to wake up every morning and have the same old dumb magic stuff around? 😁
Thanks, Gary!
What would life be without humor? Man cannot live by adventure alone!
Is 'sqwishification' in the OED? I think not! Hey! You coined a TOTALLY new word!
I think what happened last time was that I set the whole story to post automatically. There was a glitch in the system at the time that, if you didn't post chapter one manually, meant that no notifications went out. Something like that. Anyway, I posted chapter one manually this time and set the rest of the chapters to show up at 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
Always happy to see you return!
There are ten chapters. The last two will post on Halloween. Gotta say now there should have been twelve chapters, but with the two-chapter per day limit, I had to sort of finagle the ending. So the last chapters are a LITTLE bigger then the others!
Glad to see you, as always!
"The town is called Kinniston," Horace Wingspanner said, his expression looking thoughtful. "About an hour's drive from here. I was called in to investigate the town's phantom."
They were in the large front room at Horace's house, comfortably settled in a group on the two sofas facing each other across the ornate teak coffee table, which held their glasses on porcelain coasters, and a pitcher of iced tea on a porcelain tray. The walls were lined with bookcases, which held an amazing selecti
Kippy Lawson stood in the tall brown grass at the edge of Myer's Field, his eyes focused on the dead tree that lay across the path down into the woods. A summer storm had toppled the rotting remains of the old maple early in the year, and they had been climbing over the trunk to get to the top of the hill ever since. The tree had been a good-sized one, with a bole at least eight inches in diameter, and maybe thirty feet in height.
"Probably four tons of wood there," Ricky Travers mused, rub
