Yes, I know what you mean about the shared journey. Writers and readers go everywhere together. Do everything together. It's why reader feedback is so much fun, and so important to listen to. And why writer responses count. It's a conversation, right?
You did capture the flavor of the times well. I've read my share of westerns, and you had the feel down pat. Writing about a gay relationship in that period is much more unfamiliar territory, but people are people across the ages, and love has been the same since it all started. It was a little eye-opening to consider the trappings of such a relationship (deer bone and lard!), but that's simply period stuff, and doesn't affect the love at all, which you handled with your usual expertise. I LIKED Boone and Coy, and had a stake in their happiness. You delivered, and I thank you for it!
