Yes, I know what you mean about the shared journey. Writers and readers go everywhere together. Do everything together. It's why reader feedback is so much fun, and so important to listen to. And why writer responses count. It's a conversation, right? You did capture the flavor of the times well. I've read my share of westerns, and you had the feel down pat. Writing about a gay relationship in that period is much more unfamiliar territory, but people are people across the ages, and love has been the same since it all started. It was a little eye-opening to consider the trappings of such a relationship (deer bone and lard!), but that's simply period stuff, and doesn't affect the love at all, which you handled with your usual expertise. I LIKED Boone and Coy, and had a stake in their happiness. You delivered, and I thank you for it! Now off to read the epilogue...

Nice to finally arrive at the savored moment here! Definitely worth the trip. With Boone and Coy exploring both ends of the stick, it seems that their futures will be happy ones! I can't decide whether to read the epilogue now, or wait until the next visit. Well...next visit. Have to say, these boys faced an interesting time back when. I never considered the aspects of cleanliness and lubrication from the standpoint of the old west. Deer bone and lard. That's true love!

Good chapter. The school board's response was not unbelievable at all. People in those positions get to have a very active awareness of their vulnerability. Bad publicity is a killer. Can't wait to see how it all winds up!

Um...um.... In every couple, there always seems to be one that is sort of practical, and one that is a little more of a dreamer. In this relationship, Cally may be more practical with some things. That's about as far as that goes, I think. You want as many Door stories as Charlie Boone stories? I think you're going to love the fantasy I'm working on, then. 😁

Considering where this story is taking place, the likelihood of legal proceedings seems slim. The threat of wide attention to the situation would be the best course. A lot of people will fold at the prospect of bad publicity, when the threat of legal action only bores them.

A very nice comment, and thank you. People like David's granddad and your aunt are everywhere, if we take the time to find them. I find the idea that your aunt moved her maid into the spare bedroom and looked after her when she became infirm just delightful. Our roles in life often change, and making them count either way is important. New York and other big cities are still full of buildings like The Boltfort, but they will not be there forever. Too many older structures are well into decline, and demolition will one day hide their secrets forever. The Boltfort is based on a number of buildings I have known, maybe with the qualities I liked best in them all. A perfect place for a story about discovery and love. I don't know if there will ever be more written of this tale. But if it happens, it will eventually show up here.

Wow. Ethan is something of a wreck. He would seem to be suffering from a stress disorder of some kind. What isn't clear is why, beyond the obvious results of his temper. But the why of his temper still is not quite clear. We haven't learned enough of his backstory. Michael is a complication, but seems a needed one. He means well. He's young. Great story so far. Very nicely written! As the big man with the dark glasses said, "I'll be back!"

Actually, the Sony 8mm video cameras available in the late 1980's were fairly compact. Easy to put one on a shelf and have it remain unobserved. Just sayin'! 🙂

There's always one hole that someone got backwards, though. What can go out a hole can come in it, too!

Naming characters has always been fun for me. I like to get them right. There are many words that seem to raise people's hairs a bit. Calling a bad guy "Sunshine Heartfelt' just doesn't cut it!

You certainly know how to wind up the cast, crew, and readers! This is getting very hazy as regards the law. Since this story takes place thirty or more years ago, the laws back then had much larger holes in them, and perpetrators acted correspondingly. But as far as school personnel go, the line was the line, even back then. Jackson seems to be stomping on it without a care! Waiting to see how it plays out!

All input is good input. I don't know about dragging wholly peripheral characters into the limelight...but I rule out NOTHING.

RAYON????? Naming your kid after a polyester may be fashionable in the city, but not where I come from! I have to see what comes up on the associated story front. I, uh, have one going now.

I hate having to pick and choose which characters will be in any given adventure. But there are too many now to keep track of, and not enough speaking parts for so large a cast. So the next story will bring some of the others back. Ricky loves hi-tech goodies. We all know someone like this! 🚀 My dog is the same. She can hide her head under a pillow, with her entire rear end sticking out, and think she is hidden. We play the game, asking each other where she is, and her tail starts to wag. Pleased you enjoyed the story!
