Well...I'll tell you. There was cartoon series here in the 1960s called The Jetsons. It was by the same animators that brought The Flintstones to life. I saw both shows on cable in the eighties. The Flintstones was about people that lived in the supposed stone age, and the Jetsons was the polar opposite, about life in the future. Everybody had robots, flying cars, and lives in big complexes on pillars way up in the sky.
The Jetsons were the title family. Their boy, Elroy, had a dog named Astro. He was a stray they picked up and adopted. During one episode, it was revealed that Astro had run away form home, and was in reality one Tralfaz, the pedigreed dog of a millionaire businessman, who wanted him back. So the Jetsons had to give up Astro.
But Astro had other ideas. He wasn't happy, and eventually the rich guy decided he'd be better off back with the Jetsons. Happy ending here.
Seemed a particularly good name to give to Casper's new buddy.
