Yes, it probably would help with the cooling. I didn't mention that, so let's just pretend that Richie and Jeremy are smarter than I am, and will figure it out!
Why would they need to fly Air Force One anywhere? That's supposing that the CIC wasn't a block of blue crystal in his bedroom. Let's not go there!
Once again, you make an excellent point. One of those cheapo, battery powered motion sensors that send a signal to a receiver to warn when someone comes into your driveway would suffice. I can see such a defense set on perimeter duty being set off by wandering deer or other animals in the night, but one simply being aimed down the ladder tube would be enough to warn of unwelcome callers.
I didn't think of it, I'm afraid. What a great learning experience this story has been for me, too!
For once the guys were a little bit ahead of their foe. He surprised them by coming so early, but was in turn surprised by the fire defense.
As for who is flying the planes - I wish I knew!
Chapter Nine
"I saw two today," Tina said, at dinner two nights later. "They were heading east."
"I saw the same two from the other side," Will acknowledged eagerly. "And another one west of us, looked to be heading south."
"Three in one day," Jeremy mused. "They're getting pretty active, that's for sure."
Once their attentions had been turned to the sky, the passage of the aircraft above them on a routine basis had become noticeable. "This had to have just started, though,
I have a case of freeze-dried survival food myself. But I didn't know that extended to things like ice cream and beer!
Honestly, those are only products that would become popular after the end of the world. In our current one, it's just too easy to get real ice cream and beer.
Well, let me go and post the new chapter, and then get to work!
Either way, he was still out when it all happened. He could have even come home drunk and passed out in the suit. He might have been a zombie even before the Changes!
I considered the idea of gas cylinders as explosives, too. Put a scope on one with a rifle and you can set off an LPG bottle, right? Wrong. I did a little research and found this to be an urban myth. The collection of data indicates that standard bullets mostly bounce off the cylinder. Armor-piercing rounds made holes, but did not set off the gas. It's actually very hard to set off bottled gases just by impacting the cylinder. What generally causes an explosion is a leak, and an accumulation of gas in a closed space, that is then sparked in some fashion. Fire will also do it, if the cylinders are heated considerably until the rupture. But the cylinders themselves are very safe from most impacts.
I know you are speaking of the reaction effect of shearing the top off a tank and basically making a rocket out of it. I couldn't see a way to apply that to a weapon, at least not that easily.
Haha. The zombie came from the city. You never heard of all-night bars? Guys that work late? Office parties until midnight? There are any number of reasons why a guy could still be dressed in a suit and out and about in the wee hours.
Then again, he could just have been slightly strange, and liked to sleep in $2000 Armani suits!
Oh, hi! How have you been?
Hmm. I missed 28 Days Later and the other one. Someone else mentioned them, so now I'm sure I have to look. I am actually not a huge zombie guy, but...well, you'll see if you keep reading.
Great to hear from you again!
I would leave them where they were, if I were in their place. What would they do with them? Strangers might be statues in my mind, but my own family would still be just that. I would feel they'd be better right where they were.
