I liked these characters. But, I like all my characters. They get to be like real people to me. Geez. I hope that doesn't mean I need to start paying them!

That was actually a short story by Damon Knight before Serling adapted it for The Twilight Zone. Most of the best sci-fi ideas came from written works long before TV or movies got hold of them! '

Stop asking people to help you trim your rose bush, and instead say you have a carnivorous alien plant with spikes on it threatening your home, and just WATCH them show up to help!

Actually, the Compact on the Right to Life mentioned in the story was signed on Earth before the era of star travel, and was carried to the stars with human colonists. One would hope it is so ingrained by Jem's time that nothing will be able to change it. 😄

I have always thought that those among us willing to go into the most harrowing of situations to help others deserve a special mention. First responders are often the proof we need to justify the fact that we have a right to exist at all.

If we actually ever meet aliens, how much are we going to have to adjust our thinking in order to get along with them? We may not even be able to imagine. Or, they could think enough like we do that it would be no problem at all. Actually, I hope they would be very different. ONE race that thinks like we do is enough! 😁

Well, I didn't quite cut it in half. I write in an HTML editor, so that my chapters are ready to post without worrying about any conversion errors gumming up the formatting. As I write, I keep an eye on the file size, and generally try to keep them about uniform. The problem with HTML is that file size is not always a good indicator of word count. Lots of short sentences in a chapter can result in a file the same size as one with many paragraphs, but the word count will be totally different. So it wasn't quite cut in half. The last chapter will be a little shorter.
