Jamie also couldn't tell which gray mages were working for Porvus because they wanted to be there, like Artagon, or because they were now compelled to be there, having decided they didn't like what they were into and wanted to leave.

The primary reason it isn't being done is that the gray mages are spread all over the forest, not all in one spot.

Youth and inexperience, definitely. And, Jamie could not have guessed that Urvan had yet another method of escape. So, definitely some inexperience here. It's likely not easy to go from a sedate life working in a shop to becoming a merciless killer in ten day's time. But he's learning now.

Jamie is learning as he goes, and he's young. You have to remember that all of this that has happened to him has occurred within a ten-day or so span of time. Learning to be a merciless killing machine takes at least two weeks, you know!

I don't think so. Urvan can't get back into the castle by translocation. He'd have to walk in, and Kundun and company might have a few things to say about that!
