  1. Thank you for liking Eric's story. I have to disagree about the 'not so nice characters' though. Every drama needs characters who aren't liked, or who are plain nasty. I reckon in Never Too Late, the main candidates are: Adam's father and Tyler Jackson. You might not get on with Eric's neighbour (and her Pekinese) but she's basically harmless. Otherwise, I regard the rest as the good guys. I'd be interested to learn who else you don't approve of.
  2. Maybe. Maybe not. Eric has deployed many lines of defences, conscious and unconscious. They're never going to just crumble overnight.
  3. Not as we'd see it. They're more taking the first steps to friendship. Giving Eric's lack of experience when it comes to any social interaction, it's hardly surprising he's worried. Don't forget, Eric was like this on some occasions he met with Andy.
  4. For anything personal, I imagine he's reiterating what he's already said on the videos. So, something rehearsed, in a way. Otherwise, the conversation remains factual, on the surface. Don't forget, when Rob tries to turn the chat to old co-workers, Eric shuts him down immediately. Eric is as far away from wearing his heart on his sleeve as he ever has been.
  5. He is, but I suspect Rob learnt nothing much really personal from him. Eric's guard is still up and likely to remain so for some time.
  6. But Eric is learning. Doubtless the journey won't be straightforward. ๐Ÿคจ๐Ÿ˜Š
  7. Dazed, Eric put the receiver down. He blinked several times before clambering slowly to his feet, one hand on the desk for support. He'd been too long in one position. His stomach gurgled, a sound more demanding than usual in the quiet that followed on from the chat with Rob Bairstow. Out of habit, he wandered through to the kitchen and mechanically assembled a cheese sandwich from ingredients he'd left out previously. All the while, his mind replayed segments of their talk. He'd done pret

    Gratitudes

Celebrate friendship? I do whenever we communicate. Whatever the subject matter, our connection punctuates the day. Your opening skyscraper made me give thanks with its every line. Number 4 is glorious. Your combination of nature, darkness, and starlight is one you come back to and I, for one, am glad. Those verses never fail to resonate. Thank you for the gift of your poetry. ๐Ÿ˜˜
  9. I'm glad some of my readers are happy... ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜„
  10. Guilty as charged. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜„ Sort of. As I've said before, I didn't regard this ending as a cliffhanger. Thank you for being another of Eric's fans.
  11. *hides* ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ˜‚
  12. Is this your reply to ? *Looks hopeful* ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜„
  13. It's not a race, Geron. I look forward to your comments as and when you make them.
  14. I saw the notification (here and email) and thought, What?! Never mind - maybe by the time you get back to this chapter, I'll have resolved the 'cliffhanger'. ๐Ÿคจ๐Ÿ˜„
  15. Me - cruel? ๐Ÿคจ๐Ÿ˜„ And funnily enough, I didn't ever regard the ending as a cliffhanger... ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ณ
  16. Another comment from my email correspondent:
  17. Don't forget they're only at the start. Eric and Rob have lived and are currently experiencing quite different lives. There are points of contact of course. We'll have to wait and see.
  18. And despite the apparent obstacles in his way. As he put it: 'Success'.
  19. Ah... OK ๐Ÿ˜ฌ Make that 2 unhappy readers.
  20. It almost feels up there with the phone call that starts the whole story off.
  21. Oops. ๐Ÿ˜ One unhappy reader. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ Never mind - Friday will come round again soon enough. Am I forgiven?
  22. I agree. Having spent a week avoiding the call, he's really knuckled down. Contact made. โœ”
  23. Balanced on a ladder, Rob Bairstow steadied himself by leaning both elbows on the loft's flooring. A torch lay close by. The flimsy, pull-down ladder was far from his favourite place to be. The treads were more rungs than anything else and his size nine feet didn't fit. He tapped on his left trouser pocket to be sure the phone was secure. Hardly an effective insurance policy in his current position, but it was better than nothing. Living in an historic building undoubtedly had its pleasures โ€“ co

    Waiting Game

Hmm... maybe. He's certainly unsettled but I don't think he's assailed by the sort of angst Eric is.
