    The Tale

I get that. It happens often enough when I'm reading stuff that's American (or otherwise not UK in origin). One of my stranger antho entries. Thanks for giving it a go.
  2. Umm... there isn't such a thing. I wonder what proportion of UK residents see themselves as that. I know I don't. Even English (as spoken by those living there) has a kaleidoscope of accents and dialects... Just like US English, I'd imagine. ๐Ÿคจ๐Ÿ˜„

    The Story

I think if I were writing the story now, that subplot would've been developed differently. Not sure how, but it's too prominent to be left hanging. Thanks for reading. โ˜บ๏ธ
  5. Short(ish) stories seem to be my preferred mode of writing. You can experiment in so many ways without having to worry too much about sustaining the world/the humour/the style while still producing a hopefully great story. Like for Gary ( @Headstall ), prompts and site events are indeed valuable prods to this writer's imagination.
  6. Yes, at first glance, there's not much to go on.

    In Contact

Yes, he does. Especially as he's discovered what friends can do for him.

    Consequences

The combination of publicity and charity is hardly something that Eric'll welcome with open arms. What does it take to change his mind...

    Weekend Puzzles

'Do-gooder' is an interesting word. Here in the UK, it often comes with connotations of interfering, being holier than thou. Someone willing to do that kind of social intervention has to be tough as well as sympathetic.
  10. Thank you for reading one of my first attempts at a long-form story.

    Encounters

You're not the first person to have that thought... ๐Ÿคจ๐Ÿ˜„

    Seat At The Table

Excellent way of putting it. Eric has as many preconceptions as anyone else in this story.
  13. Thank you for both reading and taking the time to comment so often. I'm so pleased you enjoyed Eric's story

    Distractions

Yes, they are and they're usually well-used. It's frustrating though that a country as wealthy as the UK should need them.

    Distractions

Sorry - missed your question somehow. Eric is drawing a state pension so he's over 65.

    Connected

Those older people who refuse to learn online skills are increasingly at a disadvantage.

    Home Truths

Thank you! This is a very early story of mine, one that's focused around music which is one of my passions.

    Lacking Means

Yes, Eric isn't the only one who's changing.

    Pride of Place

Yep - it's going to be quite a milestone...

    On Display

Brian's a good friend to Eric, someone he can rely on.

    Making Progress

Here in the UK, so much of the info is online only and making the applications is also computer based.

    Trying Times

Police? Unlikely. Apart from anything else, they'd take ages to get there. If at all... Yes, the staff should've intervened.

    Old and New

He has indeed. A considerable shock to his system though... Thanks for reading and commenting.

    Tough Love

Yes... that's certainly the point I wanted to get across. This is one of the pivotal chapters I would write rather differently now.

    Expectations

They both have expectations that are almost set up to fail. Too much hope against stereotyping.
