What a great way of putting it. If, when he was younger, he'd been able to connect with Rob, his life might have been very different. Now that his life has changed, he's perhaps ready for Rob to be a part of it.
Thank you! The growing and evolving friendships are a cornerstone of this whole story. It's not just Eric who's been examining themselves - many other characters do the same.
I don't think that will ever go away. It's one of those things that's very difficult to change completely. Yes, he's moved on and that's something to celebrate.
Yes, not every queer person is happy to show themselves off, or even go to Pride. I imagine Eric would take one look at Birmingham's parade and stomp off. The local one? Hopefully not.
I suspect if I were to write the whole story again, thoughts of Rob would feature earlier. Change went though 16 chapters without any real backstory for Eric. A dull longing for chances missed would be part of that.
Yes, a trip like that can assume the proportions of an expedition but once it's been achieved, it'll shrink back down to something much more mundane. A trip that'll hopefully become common, unremarkable. Something else to add to Eric's growing repertoire.
However far you think Eric still has do go, he's already covered a considerable distance. He is not the same man who opened the first chapter of his entire story. And he knows it.
Yes, however illogical it may seem from the outside. It's not a question of cutting one tie - there will be plenty of others just as difficult to cut through.
Victims of domestic abuse have to want to leave the situation themselves. Someone else trying to force the issue from however good an intention may cause more harm. As ever, it's easier to write this than to put into action in real life.
Perhaps not entirely confident? More determined, I think, The sort of way you screw yourself up for a difficult conversation. Still, there's no denying the progress.
Yes - I feel Adam is more reserved and he hasn't had much first-hand experience with Eric. Probably heard lots, but not had the one-to-one encounters to back it up.
Yes, and unless the individuals get several prods in the right direction, there's a good chance it won't improve. Food on demand doesn't help the situation either.
Yes, Eric has changed, yet that curmudgeon is still there, ready to lurch into action. Eric is just more likely to stop and think before he opens his mouth or mentally dismisses something.
Thanks for your comments. 😊
Thank you, but I think this is one of the chapters where my inexperience shows through. Not enough backstory for either man - nothing on which to base their respective stances.
