  1. The huge camel strode across miles of bleak, reddish, dusty Martian landscape, its multi-jointed legs and splayed feet making light work of the long journey from Mariner Valley to some benighted research outpost on Terra Arabia. Of course, it wasn't actually a living, breathing camel. Bent Dodgson, safe, comfortable, and evidently bored out his mind, stretched in the utilitarian pressurised cabin secured to the back of the lead…animal. There he went again. It was kinda forgivable. The manu
  2. Bent Dodgson loves his camels. He also loves his fairy wings. On his latest trip across Mars, these two things seemingly collide with deadly consequences.

    Deeper Dive

I love horror and/or suspense with this kind of narrative distance. You learn at the pace of the narrator with plenty of gaps left for you to fill with your own fevered imagination. πŸ‘€πŸ˜„ Great stuff.

    Chapter 1

Being very much a dog person, you should be unsurprised to learn I enjoyed your story. πŸ€¨πŸ˜„ Well done.

    Lovesquatch

This was great. A joy to read. Humour, cheffing, the great outdoors, and how to make the best mushroom broth ever. And your own personal Sasquatch.
  6. Anthos are absolutely the time for experiments. πŸ€¨πŸ˜„ I loved this. A seemingly quite simple, quiet slice of life piece. Yet there's plenty to enjoy, admire, with subtle, hidden depths that reveal themselves after thought or a repeat read or two.

    Looking Ahead

Poetry, Secret Author, Anthology, Prompt would be my choices. It's a juggling act between keeping people engaged and not overcommitting authors (and readers).

    One More Week!

Yep, well, still hoping my space camels on Mars'll make it in time...
  9. Your verse about mosquitoes got to me the most. πŸ€¨πŸ˜„ Their whining and crooning has actually been quite absent this summer as it's been so dry. Something to celebrate amidst the drought.
  10. My original (only vaguely relevant) story has been put to one side and will be replaced 🀞🀞 by a much shorter effort. We shall see...

    Chapter 1

My editor was another one who assumed the backdrop was WW2. I deliberately tried to avoid anything that would place it in any one particular time period. Thanks for reading. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

    Chapter 1

Yes, it is, but it can be so, so difficult. The story's complete as it is. Sorry...

    Chapter 1

Thanks, Gary. Something rather different from me as befits the situation. πŸ€¨πŸ˜„ I expanded on a prompt response from ages ago. It was one of those that hadn't felt finished.
  21. Nobody (publicly) guessed mine. Yay! The benefits of having a US editor / beta reader @Parker Owens. Oh and Google translate for the Italian... I evidently guessed @Valkyrie's story correctly. Go me... πŸ‘€πŸ˜¬πŸ˜„ First time entrant now converted to the buzz. Maybe...
  22. I'm being credited with a fascinating selection of stories. πŸ‘€πŸ˜„ And kudos to everyone who's put their guesses out there. πŸ‘πŸ‘

  24. Grimdark fantasy?πŸ‘€πŸ˜¬ Well... I've never read any, so I'm not sure how I'd manage to write such a well-received story. Whoever it is did a great job, it's just not me.
