Chapter 1 - The incident
Jeff Burton commented on Jeff Burton's story chapter in Chapter 1 - The incident
I really just want to fix some stuff. The plot won’t change or anything but yeah. -
Talk about picking the wrong stupid boy. It won't be the last time Christian and Jack has to save your ass.

Chapter 1 - The incident
Jeff Burton commented on Jeff Burton's story chapter in Chapter 1 - The incident
So I'm noticing a lot of people are starting to read this now and I'm like... crap this is one of my first stories, the writing is crap. This is to let people know that once I'm caught up with everything, I'm totally doing a chapter by chapter revamp of Jacob's Advocate to bring it up to the quality standards the other stories have. So if you read this before that happens then two things 1) my apologies in advance. 2) don't judge me lmao -
Oh I will lol.

Yeah that's one of the million dollar mysteries. Perhaps the family drama isn't quite over yet.

Yeah that's pretty much it. That's what makes this story and Simon's hit. The other guys in the other stories are pretty lucky by comparison. You are correct about Simon, and his collision with abuse is probably the hardest hit yet. That's why I haven't published the 3 chapters I have done yet. It's coming though.

Yeah sorry about that. This chapter was half written and kind of got waylaid for a couple of months by the other stuff I'm writing. As for the details, well I may have been arrested once before so you might be reading my 'oops been there.' But it was a long time ago when I was a teenager, and it was because I forgot to show up for a traffic ticket. Thankfully though I was able to find the 'voice' in this one pretty quickly but I did end up changing a couple of directions and I'm kind of glad I took the time away so I could make those decisions. Next couple of chapters are going to be hard for Jamie but I think he can do it.

As I said in the above comment, it's not easy! I'll take the amazing part, my ego could use all the stroking it can get. As for Dad, good old Rob. Yeah he's about to get what's coming to him. Detective Jenson gets to the be unsung hero of the story, the light in the darkness in his own way. Poor guy is just an over worked investigator but he's still trying to make a difference instead of chasing statistics. Even Leeland Pierce, the officer that had to do the arrest knew something was wrong but still had to go through the motions. We've got Ari available to jump on resources though.

Yeah it wasn't easy slipping back into Jamie's soft yet complicated world. It's different than Skylar's chaotic world, Josh's uncertain one, and definitely different than Simon's burning world who you haven't had a chance to read about yet. So that makes 4 actually lol. Each so different. Thankfully though this story has a plan and as long as I follow it we should be good to go. It also helps that it isn't too horribly long.

The cruiser rolled to a stop beneath harsh floodlights, casting sterile shadows against the concrete walls of the sally port. A metal door rolled shut behind us, locking the outside world away with a finality I felt in my chest. I didn’t move until Lee opened the door. “Alright,” he said, voice low but even. “Let’s go.” The air hit colder here, dry and chemical-laced, like disinfectant over old metal and older mistakes. I climbed out awkwardly, ribs flaring with each motion, and follow

Saints, Sinners, and the Sucker in the Middle
Jeff Burton commented on Jeff Burton's story chapter in Saints, Sinners, and the Sucker in the Middle
Trust me it's never going to happen I'm not that good of a writer lol. If I did it would totally make fun of Twilight though. The football team would be the werewolves lmao. -

I'll just PM you the first 2 in .txt format. I'm in no rush to write this, if you read it, cool, if not cool too. -
Oh shit that's a trope I'm missing in my... uh... thing. Brb I have to go pick a gay in a story.

I'd love to comment on this but it would break Operational Security on something. I do have a reply but it may take up to 3 to 4 weeks to be able to get around it. And I'll forget by then. If it makes you feel any better @Topher Lydon has a reply pending in the queue under the exact same circumstances. I should start a spreadsheet. -
Saints, Sinners, and the Sucker in the Middle

Knowing me and this story, his tragic back story might be someone stole his sponge bob pencil eraser in the 6th grade and he just can't get over it. -
Saints, Sinners, and the Sucker in the Middle
Jeff Burton commented on Jeff Burton's story chapter in Saints, Sinners, and the Sucker in the Middle
Chapters aren't huge, trust me I don't need a lot of words to get the point across. They fall within my standard 5k to 7k word count range per chapter. So 3 chapters right now uh 18k? Chapter 4, I'm writing now sitting at around 3.5k with another scene or 3 to go. But it's a draft so it's messy. I'm thinking all told this will be between 40k and maybe 48k words. Oh and there's a Krista in this story and she's pissed currently. I may or may not have subconsciously named that character Krista due to my latent subconscious fear I have in you from when I started reading some of your forum posts and realized, "yeah let's not make her mad." This is the blurb i've got that might change. -
Saints, Sinners, and the Sucker in the Middle
Jeff Burton commented on Jeff Burton's story chapter in Saints, Sinners, and the Sucker in the Middle
The story is getting posted when I'm done either way. It's about 6 to 8 chapters long I'm on number 4 right now. It's the weirdest take from a prompt post I've ever gotten. And yeah, American Highschool is freshman, sophomore, junior, senior is grades 9, 10, 11, 12 respectively. And Skylar is a Junior, Ryan is a junior who should have been a senior but probably huffed glue in the 8th grade and had to repeat. -

Yeah I don't mind it. I actually love Chapter 5. It's my favorite one so far aside from the first one. If I don't cave and post it in the morning It'll be Monday morning for sure. By then I should have Chapter 6 finished. I had a rough encounter last night that I may vent about in my status update thread, or I'll just write a 15k one chapter story that basically slams parents for treating their kids like shit. But that's why I'm working on "the other" story this morning, I had emotion to vent. -

Saints, Sinners, and the Sucker in the Middle
Jeff Burton commented on Jeff Burton's story chapter in Saints, Sinners, and the Sucker in the Middle
It's really annoying. I'm working on this rather difficult chapter for the unpublished work that makes me cry like a baby every time I open the file to do a draft. I have no idea if this is going to wreck readers but it's doing a number on me. But I'm having the same problem. Stuff doesn't fit so I'm constantly rewriting sections. If someone wants to beta read it btw when I feel like I've got it hammered in let me know. But you really need to be strong on this one. -

@Krista for you I would if I could, but I'm blocked by the site limitation. I will however since you asked nicely, post it in the morning when I get off work.
