Chapter 5 - That First Day
Jeff Burton commented on Jeff Burton's story chapter in Chapter 5 - That First Day
Riley is proof I pay attention to comments, although he was planned before hand lol As for Gavin I really wish I had him with Ben, in the other story and that may happen later on. I will say one thing for Preston, and the rest of the team their appearance comes again in the next 2 chapters (Chapter 6 is done, but is shorter than the others but it's already set to be published tomorrow) as for what they do, well read and find out. I do appreciate the comment about the chapter not being too melodramatic, that's something I'm trying to keep in check while making sure they don't just fester and dwell on this stuff too much. I know how they feel and I know what happens when it gets away from you, so it's a balancing act. Also I love Manhattan Transfer, I've listened to it during multiple chapters to help with the emotional stuff, even Chanson D'Amour.- 20 comments

I woke up the next day, feeling like I had the night before, totally elated. The night before at the school board meeting had been a total success. The whole aftermath from the day I woke up in the hospital that first time, to last night had surpassed all of my expectations. I gave my body a long stretch as I lay on my back, my eyes shifted to the soft mass of heat that radiated next to me. Jacob was still asleep, reacting to my stretch, the arm he had draped across my chest flexed

Yeah I can't help it. Chapter 5 and 6 of Jacob's Advocate are done and scheduled on timer to be published tomorrow and the day after. Ben's story with Chapter 3 is almost done, and this one hit me during a break and I just couldn't stop writing it lol- 19 comments

Nathan Harris is an angry loner, who just wants to be left alone, until an interaction with Corey Andrews leads them both alone together in school suspension. The two soon learn they have more in common then either of them realized.

In school suspension Duration: 3 days Reason: Fighting. The slip crunched in my hand read, my cheek hot with anger as I left the principle’s office of our moderately appointed, mid-sized town high school. ‘Not my fault.’ I seethed internally, as I walked quickly past the empty classrooms, in an empty corridor. ‘Not my fucking fault.’ I repeated in the same internal monologue over and over until I reached the bank of lockers that mine called home. A quick

Chapter 4 - The School Board
Jeff Burton commented on Jeff Burton's story chapter in Chapter 4 - The School Board
I appreciate the comment seriously it does make a difference. I, like Tyler, tend to be hard on myself when it comes to writing, and this last couple of weeks was the first time I wrote anything in a decade and a half. In fact Salvaging the Road to Redemption Chapter 1 was 3/4 completed in 2006 before I picked it up again.- 32 comments

Chapter 4 - The School Board
Jeff Burton commented on Jeff Burton's story chapter in Chapter 4 - The School Board
OH! MY BAD! So Ben's story, is somewhat difficult for me to write for a lot of reasons, there's some stuff in it that hit too close to home if you know what I mean so Chapter 3 is in progress its about half done. I have another story "Jordan's Shadow" that's the same way. Both stories are written to help me come to terms with some stuff, some of it I'm not ready yet. Jacob's Advocate is a "what if" story as in what if everyone cared, because I don't know what that's like in a way. I've never had that kind of bond before, I never let anyone that close. But yeah, Chapter 5 of Jacob's Advocate will come before Salvaging the Road to Redemption Chapter 3. Hopefully I'll have it done by mid next week.- 32 comments

Chapter 4 - The School Board
Jeff Burton commented on Jeff Burton's story chapter in Chapter 4 - The School Board
My process thus far has been wait to check the comments from the previous chapter because sometimes you guys give me an idea that helps head to the next plot point. I'll probably start writing it this afternoon, finish it tonight when I get home and schedule it to be posted tomorrow morning if I manage to get it done before I go to bed. Each chapter is roughly 12 to 14 pages, if Chapter 5 flows like the last four chapters in my head it takes a couple of hours to write lol- 32 comments

Chapter 4 - The School Board
Jeff Burton commented on Jeff Burton's story chapter in Chapter 4 - The School Board
You guys are kind with your comments and that keeps me going, I was actually worried I was pushing too fast on Tyler and Jacob, because when I wrote Chapter 4, it just flowed that way. Chapter 4 by the way ends the way it does because it is a finale of sorts, it's the closing of chapters 1 through 4, and I wanted to start chapter 5 on what comes next, hence why we're still "In Progress." So worry not!- 32 comments

The weather was starting to get colder as the season slipped towards the end of fall. Foliage had long lost it’s battle with the change of season leaving much of everything bare, a chill had settled into the air that was becoming a more prominent fixture in the weather as the days had drawn on. I had completed my first week back with no real plan on how I was going to approach the powers that be about school and Jacob. Last week had been great. Before I had returned to the routine tha

Amanda, is Amanda. While yes she is the least injured, and we haven't seen much from her yet, she is Tyler's oldest friend and knows him better than anyone. Amanda isn't motivated by words by themselves, but the actions that motivate them as being a female school student, she's heard all the sweet talk, all the lies, because to her they where words without actions to follow through. That's the primary reason she's with Matt because I felt he does lead by actions, instead of words. Matt doesn't say it, he just does it and that's appealing to her. All of Tyler's friends bring a piece of the puzzle that is their friendship, through strength (Matt), resolve (Tyler), reality (Amanda), gallantry (Travis) and Jacob's piece I will keep secret for now.

Tyler's friends are awesome. And I didn't even intentionally write them that way. I'll let you in on a big secret. I was working on a Chapter of 'Salvaging the Road to Redemption." when I paused for a break, that story with Ben actually takes a lot of emotional energy to write, I ended up opening a blank word document and just started typing. It was pure free writing, until I got to -- “Tyler why does Jacob hate you so much.” Amanda asked keeping her gaze. -- then everything just exploded into my head faster than I could type it. Then after posting it, you and @Summerabbacat comment's on Chapter 1 almost made me regret posting it to begin with, but it also made me realize what you where saying is what everyone would be telling Tyler, so Tyler's resolve became my resolve when writing Chapter 2. I'm sure someone will say something somewhere that sparks that resolve again for Chapter 4 since it's worked that way thus far. This truly has become a community effort.

This was actually hard to do. I took a tactic I used from 'Salvaging the Road to Redemption.' to do this, as in that story most of Ben's trauma drama comes from those entries from his journal, I kind of ended up doing the same thing here, to tell what needed to be told as quickly as possible to get on with the story. I actually thought what I wrote for Jacob, was too short but I'm happy you've set me straight on that. As for the characters, as we see in life and in other stories there's always too much blame, and excuses going around. You actually aren't going to see much of that in the future because that's not what the overall story is about. Yes I could put some juicy blaming in to increase the word count but in my mind that's all it would do. It's simply not the message.

I swear I'm starting to live by the comments @Summerabbacat and @weinerdog as both of you plus some other commenters have managed to shape chapters 2 and 3. All of you keep me on my toes and challenge me to tell a better story with every comment. I'm still working out the overall theme of "Chapter 4 - School" (Yeah that's not a spoiler, it should be predictable by now.) in my head, but hopefully I can maintain the momentum so far.

‘What have I done.’ Jacob was frozen in time, his fist throbbed, the sound of his heart pumping drowning out every other sound. ‘What have I done.’ His eyes stayed locked on Tyler who had just a moment ago managed a desperate plea to stop the rage that had been unleashed upon him. A plea that summoned a rational thread of thought from deep in Jacob’s mind. ‘Stop. This isn’t right,’ the thought rang so loud as Jacob had been about to deliver another blow, h
