The Nicansien flowed through her earbuds, nearly drowning out Khurtschono’s viola. She swayed as her bow glided across the strings. Through it all, the bitter taste of wolfsbane covered her tongue. It was the new moon — by all rights, she should be out chasing rabbits in wolf form. But no. She had responsibilities that required her to be in neko form today. And probably tomorrow as well. Freezing up, Khurtschono fought her rocking — that was a good way to poke out Arban’s eye while she played.

Oh, he absolutely does need to tell Connor.

Thanks! This was a fun chapter to write, especially with Connor trying to get over his squeamishness. I learned something new about bull sharks too

Connor wasn’t sure he ever wanted to eat fish again. It tasted fine — no, great, even. He just couldn’t get the image of Soren scrambling fish brains out of his mind. Sliding the fried tilapia across his plate, Connor snuck a glance at Soren across the kitchen table. Shit — the werewolf was staring at him, and his plate was licked clean. “Does it taste alright?” Soren’s velvet voice sent chills down Connor’s back. He nodded quickly, staring guiltily at the half-eaten fish. “You don’t h

It's still their first maybe-date. But yeah, interesting times ahead for these two.

What had he done? Soren trudged off the bus, leading Connor toward the bus stop bathroom. They’d taken the bus because Kurt wouldn’t let them in the car. Kurt wouldn’t let them in the car because if Connor was Soren’s mate, then he was also Altanchono’s mate. And they’d only realised that when Skylar explained it. Kurt wasn’t talking to Soren. He wasn’t sure the neko would ever talk to him again. And it was all Soren’s fault. “You don’t… live in the bathroom, do you?” He could hear the

Especially considering Soren's not even a werewolf.

The chime reverberated through the field as Connor’s foot touched the finish line. A triumphant grin spread across his face as he slowed to a light jog. With Brienne missing, it was almost like he had no competition. Hopefully she would be back next week. A brisk walk along the track lowered his thundering heartbeat, and Connor finally allowed himself some water. On the track, another wave of wolves took off, and Connor took a moment to watch their start. Pity and admiration washed through him

Yeah. It's been a while, but I'm still tinkering with Sasha and Evžen
-
Sasha set a suit into a bag, on top of several other clothes. He could hear Bohdan yelling out in the parlour, his ears picking up fragments about disappointing the Lidikrys, not taking responsibilities seriously, failing a simple task. The Novák patriarch had not been happy when they returned from signing up for the JNP. His mood had only worsened when Evžen mentioned that the campus he’d been signed up for was near the Twilight Zone. Honza had left a plane ticket for Evžen when he left the h

The Trouble with Werewolves
Yeoldebard commented on Yeoldebard's story chapter in The Trouble with Werewolves
Are they ever This is where the story really picks up. -
Soren bolted at the sound of a chime. All around him, werewolves surged forward, jostling for position as they leapt from the starting line. Beside the cinnamon wolf, a red wolf edged ahead, and Soren put on a burst of speed, trying to keep ahead of him. Alice’s words rose in his mind, and the mage slowed slightly, letting the other wolves pull ahead. If he pushed too hard now, he’d tire out far too early. And Soren wanted to do well. Kurt expected him to do well, and despite the sting of her

Miles isn't a werewolf himself, so it is highly unlikely he'd realise he's Khurtschono's mate. However, if she's not careful, he might think she has a crush on him, and from there, it's not too far to realise the crush is a mate claim. Neko generally refers to cat people. In this universe, their appearance depends on their breed: the Niwo are your typical human with cat ears and a tail, Ythin are fully furred, and Askani are Niwo with a bit more body fur, but less furred than Ythin.

Khurtschono poked at the cereal on the table, wrinkling her nose. Across from her, Soren was already gulping everything down — cereal, omelette, yoghurt all vanished into his maw. “Is the milk bad?” Khurtschono cast a sidelong glance at Skylar, who was elbow deep in dishes. “It smells weird.” “Cow milk,” Skylar explained. “Now eat it. You don’t want to miss the bus.” “Why did we switch to cow milk?” Khurtschono grumbled, scooping a spoonful of cereal into her mouth. Thin cream flooded her

This is a wonderfully written story about a boy and his struggles with growing up. Given a responsibility most adults would struggle with, Billy faces the challenges he's given in an utterly believable teen manner. The writing in this story is top notch. Descriptions are vivid. and characters are portrayed in a manner that draws the reader in. This is a story that will hook you and keep you turning pages (or clicking that next chapter button) until you've read the whole thing in a single sitting.

I like listening to music while I read. And Ode to Joy started playing when Billy climaxed. Like, full choral and everything. And let me tell you, the cackle I cackled reading his dad walking in with that playing in the background... it was fucking perfect timing.

Black Summer - A Day at the Park
Yeoldebard commented on jkwsquirrel's story chapter in Black Summer - A Day at the Park
It's taken me a while to get into this story, and I'm still not sure I'll be able to finish it, but something about the premise just keeps drawing me back. You've written one heck of a first chapter. -
Connor scooped a glob of wax from a can. Wiping it across the Riverview Meadows sign, he worked over the freshly dried paint. After a week's worth of work, everything was clean, and he couldn’t see any black paint showing through the fresh white. Even the stencilling naming the community was redone — Connor was not taking any chances with Emma. If she thought there was even the chance he hadn’t broken his back working, she’d make him do it all over again. It was that trait that made him believe

Yeah. Who would have thought Soren would be that good at hunting?

“I’ve got some good news and some bad news.” Khurtschono slid into the truck, leaving the door open. They sat across the street from the laser tag centre. A bit of solo scouting had everything prepared for their escapades. Now she just needed to get Soren inside. “The bad news is, it’s a weekday. And a school day. No one’s going to be playing anytime soon.” “Oh.” It was almost as though Soren expected the disappointment. He barely even reacted. “The good news is, that means there’s rea

In Sickness And In Health
Yeoldebard commented on Yeoldebard's story chapter in In Sickness And In Health
Yeah, things are definitely heating up. In the wrong way. -
Raindrops tapped across the river. Resting against a submerged rock, Soren watched the miniscule waves ripple against his arms. Soft warmth enveloped him, only adding to the heat he felt. Soren felt himself falling, and he threw out a hand, trying to steady himself against a boulder. A calico hand supported him, and Soren stared at it blankly before realisation caught up to him. “Kurt?” “Oh good, you’re awake.” Kurt helped — dragged — him from the river. Soren blinked as the world swam aro

Oh not at all. I understand this story didn't come out well and I appreciate your notes I'm happy you're enjoying the rest of the series.

I agree. I wrote this story during a very chaotic NaNoWriMo (if I remember correctly, our car broke down and I had to hoof it three miles in the desert with a cold) and it definitely shows in the storyline. I'm probably not going to write on such a tight schedule again.
