And here I thought I was the Bardic Slattern. Seems like a downgrade lol

It seemed he was only asleep for a few minutes when Adan was woken by a knock on the door. Roku still held him, the tiger’s eyes staring at Adan as the mage rolled over. Adan smiled at the cat, gently lifting his furry arm away from him. “Can you get the door for me? I am not quite ready to entertain,” he said. “Of course,” Roku smiled. “I do not suppose your father will let us stay in bed all day?” “I doubt it. But maybe he will allow us to visit the library.” Roku was up in an

This was a short story written from a prompt. Maybe I'll continue it some day, but it will be a while before that happens.

Since I can remember, I have been in danger. It started when I survived a baby rattlesnake curling up in my crib as a baby. How it got there, no one could figure out. My parents freaked out, the snake was removed, and that was that. My next brush with death was when I was three years old, in our family pool. Learn to swim early, my mother said. Apparently learning to swim meant learning not to swallow half the pool water. I was saved by a quick neighbour from that death. Things only got

He had an entire suite of rooms to himself. An enormous bed with the finest Korainan cotton, a gilded chamber pot, even his own private study complete with a fireplace. Yet Adan would have given them all to be back in Zyrel with Master Dennet. "You are scared," Roku said, sitting on the bed beside Adan. "I am a prince. Master Dennet and Master Jacob are dead. I am alone in a strange place and I do not know what is about to happen. Roku, I am so terrified, it is like there is a giant on m

They were sparring with Master Jacob when Master Dennet returned late the next day. Even together Adan and Roku couldn't best the Third Sword, though the mage was able to scratch Master Jacob's arm. He considered it a success, though not a victory. “It is well enough for now,” Master Dennet said as Adan and Roku stood panting at the edge of the sparring circle. “You may have the rest of the day to yourselves. I suggest you both study up on noble etiquette. It would not do for the apprentice

The journey through the plains took two more days, the carriage turning around rocks in the road to spare the wheels as much as possible. Roku continued his reading through their travels. He made Adan jealous with his fortitude. Adan couldn’t even look at a book on the move without feeling sick to his stomach. As they passed into the woods, Roku looked up from his book. “What fascinating lives druids lead. Are they that uncommon that so few know of them?” he asked. “Not many have the

Adan expected a fight, a struggle for dominance. Every account he had found of the ritual spoke of it. But Adan felt nothing from the tiger except curiosity. Roku sat up slowly, examining his arms. The mage could see the tiger's mind spinning, puzzling things out before slowly coming to terms with his existence. "I am Roku. I am… your familiar?" he said, testing out the title. His voice was rich, like soft velvet upon Adan's ears. "I hope you will be more than that," Adan said, h

Adan stood on one leg, balancing a pair of tomes in his hands. He stared at the timepiece on the table in front of him, willing the sand to drain faster. This was one of his least favourite methods of exercising, but Master Dennet had caught him speeding through a spell earlier that day. Now he was slowing down, as the master called it. It wasn’t like it had been that difficult of a spell, just a simple food summoning to feed a stray cat. He had mastered the spell nearly two years ago. But A

Adan is a mage in training. After accomplishing a feat less than a hundred mages have ever completed, he has earned the admiration of his master. But he has also gained attention from the king of Meras himself. Now Adan must navigate the intricacies of a royal court with his familiar at his side. Will he be able to survive the court? Or will the mage be left to hang in a world every bit as deadly as a battlefield? Only time will tell.

“The light of Selune bless you in these times.” It took two days to reach Nashkel, and we were harried the entire way by goblins. All who neared us were slain by our fierce protectors, though we realized no matter how fierce, Jaheira and Khalid were not invulnerable. We pushed on still, despite our fresh injuries, Jaheira providing what comfort she could through her spells. It gave you pause, wondering what your life would have been like if you had been granted the power to heal as she

"Who can judge the value of a life? Not even the gods may know such a value of a mere mortal." It took even longer to escape the canyons than it took to get in. Khalid led us out, but you were not used to the climbing necessary, and several times Jaheira had to help you up. We rested again just out of the canyons, Jaheira seeing to Khalid’s wounds. The rest of our journey was completed hastily, everyone eager to get back to Beregost. It was decided we would wait a while before setting o

Jordan pulled off his helmet in front of the bookstore. One thing was for sure, there would be no more walking to work. He knew Damian realized the same thing. The neko scowled under his hood, Jordan barely seeing the look. “I’m not sure if we can get the bake sale done on a bike. In fact, I highly doubt it,” the neko said, setting the pink helmet next to Jordan’s. Jordan took the cat in his arms, kissing Damian gently. “There’s a way to get it done,” he said. “Maybe Lysander can

Damian stepped into the bedroom, his head still wet from the shower. The neko crossed the room quickly, standing next to Jordan, who was laying on the bed. “Are you okay?” the cat asked, searching the werewolf for injuries. “I heard something break.” “I’m fine physically,” Jordan reassured Damian, sitting up. “But… I kissed Lysander. I didn’t mean to-” Damian let out a quiet sigh, sitting next to the werewolf. “Well, he is your other mate, so it is going to happen.” “Are

Damian chatted excitedly with Lysander as they carried bags into the kitchen. Jordan was amazed at how open he was with the elf. Apparently once he decided he liked someone, Damian was all over them. “Do you need any help in the kitchen?” Jordan asked. “No. You stay out of the kitchen,” Damian warned. “I heard you and Arisa talking about your fiasco with the fish.” “It’s okay Aerael,” Sander smiled at Jordan. “Te Kalael and I will make dinner. Why don’t you go work on your bedroom?”

It's more the idea of a non wolf in the complex. Other wolves would not know Damian is claimed.

The three stared at each other in an awkward silence. Jordan couldn’t believe this. Their roommate was also his mate? What about Damian? He couldn’t leave the neko. Just then, the neko cleared his throat quietly. “Uh, hello. I’m Damian,” he said quietly. “I’m Jordan’s… mate, I guess…” “Lysander,” the elf said, blinking rapidly. “But most people call me Sander. I’m sorry, I just… Wow… Um, why don’t you come in?” “Did something happen?” Damian asked. “Yeah,” Jordan said, p

Thank you for pointing this out. It definitely suggests some form of magic was used, perhaps a glyph of sorts that burned away? Hopefully the people investigating the fire can find out more.
